About this property
Glamping: Grand Canyon Magnificent Mahal Yurt
Summary:
The ULTIMATE OFF GRID GLAMPING experience. Your night to see every star in the Milky Way.
Our beautiful Mahal yurt sleeps 11. We have tried to go above and beyond to provide the best off grid experience in the comfort of our meticulously designed Yurt.
This gorgeous stay is located only 40 minutes away from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
The Space:
Our chic yurt offers everything you need for a comfortable stay. At a full 700 square feet, the space is well-equipped with four full-size memory foam mattresses, a secluded queen memory foam mattress, and a couch (we'll let you draw straws to decide who sleeps where—ha!). Our chic decor was curated to give you the perfect photos for your social media ;)
Is there heat? Yes! There are 2 Mr. Buddy heaters to keep you comfortable on those chilly Arizona nights. But please note that it does get very cold sometimes. So, bring an extra pair of PJs, thermals, and long johns for added warmth :) If you can fit them, bring extra blankets and sleeping bags too!
Can I cook? The full-size kitchen area offers a two-burner camping stove, French press coffee maker, mini-refrigerator, pots/pans, and basic utensils for cooking and prepping a meal.
Is there hot water? Yes, the full indoor bathroom offers hot water for your glamping experience. NOTE: During the winter months and any other time it is below 40°F, we DO NOT offer any running water. But you'll be able to wash off the day all summer long. Water will be shut off on October 8th and will be reinstalled tentatively in mid-May.
Is there a bathroom? There is a compost toilet in the yurt. The toilet is fully ventilated and waterless. Please read the instructions provided for the best experience and usage of the toilet. There is also a full shower, sink, and vanity to clean up and get ready. We provide towels and soap for you.
Is there electricity? Our solar power system is fully off-grid. There are a couple of places for you to plug in your beloved cell phone to get a full charge! However, the system can't handle devices that need a lot of power like blow dryers.
Please note: We do not provide Wi-Fi. This is your chance to disconnect :) Cell service is mostly available at the campsite, but a short trip back to the highway will give you guaranteed service.
Please note: Cows do roam the property and approach the yurt from time to time as they are curious animals. They are harmless and skittish, but please take caution as they are large animals and, if threatened, they can be harmful in order to protect themselves and their calves.
Dogs are allowed during your stay for an additional $25 fee per dog. We ask that dogs do NOT get on the couch or bed to be respectful of other people's allergies.
Guest Access:
You have full access to the entire property.
The Neighborhood:
Ideal conditions for Stargazing! There is almost no light pollution during the night, so the property offers an incredible opportunity to stargaze and see the Milky Way. Also, with the Grand Canyon being only 40 minutes away, Moran Point and Lipan Point have some of the most incredible views of the stars from the South Rim.
The property itself is pretty secluded as the few neighboring properties are spaced far apart. It is typically rare to see someone driving down the entrance road to the yurt.
There are two gas stations and a hotel restaurant/lounge within 10 minutes of the property (Just head North down US-180). Please note that things close early in this town, and we recommend stocking up on snacks/groceries beforehand.
Getting Around:
There is no public transportation and you'll definitely need a vehicle to get around town.
Other Things to Note:
The yurt is located on 4 acres of land an is currently the only glamping site on the property. You should be fully secluded in your stay.
The roads that lead to the yurt are dirt roads and can get muddy. AWD vehicles are recommended, but any truck or SUV should be able to handle it. Cars can handle it when weather conditions are suitable, but there’s a chance of getting stuck and tow trucks are expensive. Our on-site host has tow straps in case of emergency, but it’s not guaranteed he’ll always be in town or available.
When it gets to freezing temperatures the water tank may freeze. In this instance you would not be able to utilize the showers/sink. This is a rare occurrence, but it does happen. We recommend bringing some bottled water with you.
NOTE: During the winter months and any other time it is below 40° F we DO NOT offer hot water. But you'll be able to wash off the day all summer long.
It does get very windy on the property. If you're inside the yurt, this may feel alarming. But we assure you that the yurt has been properly secured to the deck and ground. You will not blow away :)
Our yurt is set up to be off-the-grid and runs solely on solar power. On gloomy days, our solar batteries may not be able to charge fully. In these instances, the fridge may be inoperable. We apologize in advance, but know you can still use the fridge as a cooler. We recommend buying foods that don't spoil easily, like eggs and fruit.
There is almost no light pollution around the yurt. It gets very dark on moonless or cloudy nights. On moonless nights, you may not be able to see your hand in front of your face, but plenty of stars! There are lights in the yurt, but you may also want to bring a flashlight or use your phone light for the exterior.
Lastly, it can get very cold in the winter. Freezing cold! Before you stay, be sure to look up the weather in Valle, Arizona. Please keep in mind our personal space heater and wood burning stove can only do so much. Please pack extra warm clothing (thermals and long johns) to keep warm. Refunds will NOT be issued because it’s cold out. We have no control over the weather and want to be upfront about this from the beginning. The water we provide may freeze. We suggest bringing your own water on cold days.
It's very important for us to be upfront about all of this, as we do not want to be dinged in our reviews for things out of our control. So please be mindful that this is and was always meant to be an outdoor experience.
*Please remember that we are 100% solar so we are dependant on the sun for power. Remember to check the weather by Googling "Valle Az Weather". If it will be cloudy, we can't guarantee power. We work hard to make sure you're comfortable but we can't control the weather so this is out of our control and we can't give refunds for weather based issues including loss of power. The high desert is a rough environment. Come ready to experience it like a local!
