This is our 5th time at The Nub, and it keeps getting better! Angela and her family keep the property in top shape, including making significant improvements (we loved the new carpeting this year!). The location is ideal, and we look forward to returning every year. We feel very fortunate to be able to spend time here. Thanks to Angela for the great communication and warm welcome!
We loved our stay at this beautiful cabin. Perfect for our family of four that doesn’t mind sleeping in one big room. The views are incredible and you’re able to see seals right off the deck! It’s in a great location minutes from Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor. The host was incredibly responsive and even greeted us in person our first day there. Would definitely recommend!
We were fortunate to be able to stay at The Nub again this year, and it remains our favorite place to stay. Spending days hiking the mountains of Acadia and returning to The Nub at night is incredibly restorative. Angela is a great host, receptive to all of our needs, even those we didn't know we had! We hope to return again next year!
We stayed at The Nub with our four children. It was the perfect location — a short drive from Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, multiple hikes and lakes/ponds. It was also the perfect setting— Sommes Sound is beautiful and the kids loved being in the water. Angela was very helpful in planning the trip and was readily available for any questions we might have. We had such an enjoyable time and look forward to staying again sometime soon!

Thank you Kate for taking time to write a review. We are so glad it all worked out well for you and your beautiful family. All the best, Angela
The Nub House feels private and tucked away, with beautiful views of Somes Sound (sunsets are particularly spectacular), while being close to everything on MDI. The house was clean, comfortable, and well-stocked, and the property owner, Angela, communicated well. We couldn't have asked for a better base from which to explore Acadia NP and the island, or a better place to relax at the end of the day.

This was our second year at the Nub house, and we loved it as much (or more) than the first. The location is perfect--an amazing view, nice breezes, and lots of quiet and privacy. The house is thoughtfully equipped--we cooked most of our meals there, either in the kitchen or on the grill--and the washer and dryer are a nice amenity. We would happily be back again, and again...this is such a neat house, minutes from great hiking, biking, kayaking!

Thank you! I means a lot to us when people love our place enough to return. Please know that you are welcome again in the future! All the very best to you and your beautiful family--who I was lucky enough to meet this time. Angela
This was our second time being able to stay at Angela’s Nub camp, and it was simply perfect! The Nub has everything you want with sights galore. Swimming and kayaking in the Sound within reach of seals is a memory that is really unmatched. The location is incredibly convenient too. After days of arduous and amazing hiking, coming back to the Nub was a perfect ending to the day. We really appreciate Angela’s communication and her ability to make our stay so comfortable. We hope to be back again next year. Thanks, Angela!

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience at the Nub! It was a pleasure hosting you again! Please be well and thank you for choosing the Nub!
We LOVED our time at the Nub! The views from the deck and the house are gorgeous. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoons on the deck after a morning of exploring. It was calm, quiet and a perfect oasis to recharge before heading out again. The house has a nice cabin feel and is perfectly appointed with all of the things you need. The stairs to the loft are a bit steep for young children (ours are 5 & 3), but we managed just fine. We will definitely be back to enjoy all of the beauty MDI has to offer!

My wife and I came here for our honeymoon in October and wow this place did not disappoint. It is soo cozy for those cold autumn nights, with a wood stove and comfy couches. And the views/sunsets from the deck over the sound on a clear day are one of a kind. Would love to come back here with a family or friends since there are beds for many more than just the 2 of us. Angela was very thoughtful and checked in with us when we arrived. She even left us bouquets of flowers, a few bottles of bubbly, and other snacks for our stay. So sweet!

Our family of six had a fabulous time at this cottage on the sound. The home is located in a beautiful wooded landscape with the ocean right off the deck. Our four children enjoyed the freedom of exploring the rocky coast and discovering sea creatures at low tide. The cottage was incredibly clean and stocked with everything we needed. Angela was so kind, helpful, and quick to respond when we had a question. The home is a great location to explore both sides of MDI…the bustling Bar Harbor/Acadia and also the quiet side towns. The loft with bunks and desk area was fun for the kids. We enjoyed the creative design of the home which is a true wonder of wood! We would love to stay again.

The location is almost as good as it gets if you want to be right near the national park as well as close to Bar Harbor for shopping, food, etc. The views, all day long are pretty and peaceful. We did a lot of hiking, biking and eating.
The home itself is odd and Angela is more than willing to admit that. It's like someone took the 1970s and gave it a little nudge with an Internet connection. It's not that things were were broken or unusable, more that it felt like they were young antiques :). It was almost anachronistic. You have to see it to understand.
We were only two people so there was more than enough room. I think it would've been fine for a family of 4-6 and stretching it for much more.
If you don't mind not having a microwave or a TV (the listing says there's a TV but not that we saw), you'll be fine.
The host is incredibly nice and acts as I would if I were a host; as a friendly person providing a home for people to enjoy, rather than being a stiff landlord. We had nice conversations with her on the way in and on the way out,

Thank you Rob. I am glad that you appreciated the mid-century modern design and proximity to the ocean and local sites. As a note, we have resisted putting a TV in that house (will correct site)--historically, no one has ever missed having one with those views and peaceful surroundings. But for 2022, in case it's desired, we will be adding a TV--thanks for the thought! I'll consider a spot to place a small microwave as well- thx.
Thank you again for sharing your experience.
All the best,
Angela

A great house in a great location
We (myself, wife, and 4-year old son) had a perfect week staying at the house. The location is ideal--right on Somes Sound, literally overlooking the water. Additionally, it is very convenient to Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Bar Harbor, and of course Acadia NP. It's definitely quieter in this area of Mt. Desert Island, which makes for a relaxing getaway. The house is comfortable, cozy yet spacious, with enough space for people to spend time together or for someone to curl up semi-privately with a good book. The deck overlooking the water is great! it's big, and ended up more as our 'living room' for the week, since the weather was so glorious.
Everything in the house was in great working order--the galley kitchen is very well-equipped and we used it multiple times for breakfast and a few times to cook dinner. For someone who likes to cook, the house is great--the cookware is high quality, the grill is in great shape, and there is a nice selection of knives, utensils, etc. The house was clean, efficient, and very nicely decorated. We loved how private the house was--you could spend a week here in near solitude, but were only minutes away from the National Park and nice small towns.
Having stayed in a number of rental vacation homes over the years, we were really impressed by how well-organized the experience was, which made check-in and check-out a breeze. All in all, this is a fantastic place for a family to spend a week (or more), and we look forward to coming back!

Thank you for the review. The renting process can sometimes be a challenge but you all clearly appreciate nature and what we have at that site; the best scenario all around. Please don't hesitate to consider our Nub house in the future! Have a great rest of the year.

The property location is absolutely perfect for many reasons….
1). All trailheads are within 15 minutes. We hiked Beehive, Jordan Cliffs, Beech Cliffs, and South Bubble.
2). Right on Somes Sound so every morning you wake up to an incredible view of the water (I would remove a branch or 2 to open up the view a bit more). It was September so we took one icy dip (Somes Sound Challenge) but enjoyed the rocks and searching for shells and other treasures.
3). Close to all the great Lobster Pounds. Our favorite was C-Rays.
The house is small but perfect for our family of 5. The kids (6,9,11) loved having the second floor all to themselves. No rails on bunk beds so they spread out on the 4 ground level beds. Nice bathroom for them on that floor as well.
Kitchen is loaded if you like to cook. Only thing missing was a microwave which would help when trying to heat up those amazing lobster pound leftovers.
Plenty of games (checkers, backgammon, etc) to stay busy at nights. There is a TV but we never turned it on. Great wood stove in the main family room we used frequently.
Kids loved the outdoor deck shower. Plenty of deck furniture, grill, etc. We spent a lot of time in the afternoon enjoying the deck space with a cold beer after the crazy iron rung hikes.
Angela was awesome to work with. She left lights on for us as she knew we were arriving after dark and was super responsive to our questions prior and during through email and text.
A perfectly quaint cottage on the sound with every amenity you need for a relaxing stay. We loved the big deck to enjoy the sounds of the water (and seals!) and had everything we needed (and more) in the house. Angela was a great host - very responsive and offered excellent recommendations. Location is conveniently located to everything on the island. Would highly recommend!
We had a wonderful stay at Angela’s property. It’s an incredibly special place on the Sound. We can’t wait to go back and swim and kayak among the seals! Angela is a lovely host and the house had everything we needed. We had a wonderful stay.
What a relaxing and restful week we had at the Nub! We discovered so many beautiful places around Mt.Desert Island, and we enjoyed peaceful times on the deck with the view over Somes Sound. The Nub is such a comfortable place with a warm rustic character.
We just returned from a great week at Mt. Desert Island and Acadia. We were lucky enough to stay at this lovely home. The house is close enough to everything but also a beautiful, serene home base away from the crowds of Bar Harbor. Angela was very helpful and attentive. Would absolutely stay again.

Summertime in Maine is just gorgeous. This house was the perfect size for our family of 4 and located very conveniently from Acadia, as well as SW Harbor, NEH and Bar Harbor. The views are stunning. Angela was a wonderful host. Can’t wait to return!
The house and property exceeded our highest expectations. Everything was pristine and the views of the sound were stunning. The location is an ideal combination of remote for relaxing privacy and convenient for short drives into town and Acadia. We were sad to leave and can’t wait to stay again.

About the host
Hosted by Angela
My family have been enjoying magnificent Mount Desert all our lives. We love the variety of things to do--both on and off the island. With so many places to explore, you are only limited by your own imagination. Mount Desert Island offers easy access to day hikes, carriage road for a stroll, run or biking, swimming, sailing or boating in lovely ponds, lakes or the ocean. You and your family can also step onto a ferry--to explore neighboring islands for a picnic and to observe how off islanders live year-round--many of whom are artists who display their work at local art galleries (like Islesford island (1 of the nearby Cranberry islands). Once you get a taste of Acadia National Park, you will get hooked! We also provide insider tips and recommendations on specific sights, walking & hiking trails, dining spots etc--to help you plan your time with such a multitude of options and adventures to be had, on Mount Desert Island.
Why they chose this property
The Nub is unique in that it is sited extremely close to the water's edge. You can relax on the deck and hear the sounds of the ocean just below. There are very few places quite like our location on Somes Sound, that offers such expansive ocean views. The Nub is low maintenance and perfect to return to, after a full day of activity or to just take a pause, reading and/or watching the wildlife, sailing races and other boating activities. Over the years, I have made small adjustments to maintain what so many have grown to appreciate about the Nub. If you like hearing the ocean lapping at the shoreline or waking up to the sounds of seagulls and seals cavorting, you will love our little Nub on Somes Sound.
What makes this property unique
Proximity and surrounding views--right from the Nub. Many people love the hot outdoor shower with a views of the Sound and evening sunsets--it doesn't get much better than that! The Nub feels like a being in a oceanfront treehouse and it is perfect for those looking for tranquility but also, within easy proximity to everything on Mount Desert Island; hiking, biking, all harbor towns, golf, tennis, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and so on. The house is built of mostly wood and a lot of glass--offering you and your group mountain and ocean views. We often hear people remark about our site, being one of the best vantage points on Somes Sound facing southwest. The deck hangs out over the water--you will not want to leave especially at sunset. But with such a variety of island adventures--too extensive to list-there are hundreds of things to see and do, on Mount Desert-- and its neighboring islands. We leave suggestions at the house as well as updated brochures for whale watching, fishing, bird watching, paddle boarding --and so on. In short, if you are a small group, who want to be away from the summer crowds but close enough to all grocery stores, shops and restaurants, you will be hard pressed to find a better spot on Somes Sound.
