My family have been enjoying magnificent Mount Desert all our lives. We love the variety of things to do--both on and off the island. With so many places to explore, you are only limited by your own imagination. Mount Desert Island offers easy access to day hikes, carriage road for a stroll, run or biking, swimming, sailing or boating in lovely ponds, lakes or the ocean. You and your family can also step onto a ferry--to explore neighboring islands for a picnic and to observe how off islanders live year-round--many of whom are artists who display their work at local art galleries (like Islesford island (1 of the nearby Cranberry islands). Once you get a taste of Acadia National Park, you will get hooked! We also provide insider tips and recommendations on specific sights, walking & hiking trails, dining spots etc--to help you plan your time with such a multitude of options and adventures to be had, on Mount Desert Island.

Why they chose this property

The Nub is unique in that it is sited extremely close to the water's edge. You can relax on the deck and hear the sounds of the ocean just below. There are very few places quite like our location on Somes Sound, that offers such expansive ocean views. The Nub is low maintenance and perfect to return to, after a full day of activity or to just take a pause, reading and/or watching the wildlife, sailing races and other boating activities. Over the years, I have made small adjustments to maintain what so many have grown to appreciate about the Nub. If you like hearing the ocean lapping at the shoreline or waking up to the sounds of seagulls and seals cavorting, you will love our little Nub on Somes Sound.

What makes this property unique

Proximity and surrounding views--right from the Nub. Many people love the hot outdoor shower with a views of the Sound and evening sunsets--it doesn't get much better than that! The Nub feels like a being in a oceanfront treehouse and it is perfect for those looking for tranquility but also, within easy proximity to everything on Mount Desert Island; hiking, biking, all harbor towns, golf, tennis, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and so on. The house is built of mostly wood and a lot of glass--offering you and your group mountain and ocean views. We often hear people remark about our site, being one of the best vantage points on Somes Sound facing southwest. The deck hangs out over the water--you will not want to leave especially at sunset. But with such a variety of island adventures--too extensive to list-there are hundreds of things to see and do, on Mount Desert-- and its neighboring islands. We leave suggestions at the house as well as updated brochures for whale watching, fishing, bird watching, paddle boarding --and so on. In short, if you are a small group, who want to be away from the summer crowds but close enough to all grocery stores, shops and restaurants, you will be hard pressed to find a better spot on Somes Sound.
