Oceanfront Cottage, Near Acadia National Park, Private Beach
Oceanfront cottage with 200 feet of private pebble beach and beautiful view of Western Bay and mountains of Acadia National Park. Situated on 3/4 acre, this cottage is conveniently located in a quiet, wooded setting yet only 10 miles to Acadia National Park and 12 miles to Bar Harbor. Cottage has 2 bedrooms, living room, bath room, open kitchen with all new appliances, and spacious dining area with direct view of the ocean. Enjoy watching the sunrise over the mountains or the beauty of the moonlight on the water. Please be aware that this is a brand new cottage built in 2023-2024 to replace the old cabin we had on this property and to which the reviews refer. We tried to rebuild in the style of the old cabin because we loved it so much, but it was getting difficult to maintain after so many years. The new house has an even better view of the water than the old cabin because it is sited differently. It is fully insulated to Maine building code and has electric heat throughout.
Amenities: Electric heat, wood stove, WIFI. Please No Pets. No Smoking. Activities: Swim, kayak, walk, bike, or just sit and read a book on the deck or private beach. Area: Conveniently located between Ellsworth and Bar Harbor, directly on the shore. Dining, shopping, whale watches, nature cruises, hiking or biking in Acadia National Park.

Clean, comfortable cottage with well-equipped kitchen. Loved waking up to panoramic ocean views and sunrise. Steep stairs to the beach is a plus, but may not be suitable for young children. Sugar Bakery, on the street to the cottage was very good and convenient as were the many lobster eateries and grocery stores close by. Did not miss not having a TV as busy exploring Mount Desert Island with its’ many trails and coastline. A great cottage to relax and unwind, away from the crowds at the end of the day.

Thanks so much, Carolyn, for the great review! As can be seen from the photos, the cottage is on an elevated flat lot and there are indeed a lot of stairs to the beach. We do not restrict families with young children from renting because there is a fence across the top of the property, with a gate to the stairs. However, families are encouraged to decide what feels safe for their children when they decide on making a reservation. We bought the cottage when our youngest was four and they all (3) enjoyed playing on the beach, where the the access to the water is gradual with no sharp drop off. Obviously close supervision of children is important. We are glad you did not miss having a TV. We don't either which is why we have never had one at this cottage. We must admit that we do occasionally use the wifi to connect our own laptop to stream some entertainment but mostly we just enjoy the peace and quiet, reading the books provided or playing the board games, or doing puzzles. Of course there is also a lot to do in the surrounding area, including concerts, and the local theaters (movies, music, and live performances) in Bar Harbor and Ellsworth. It is a different kind of getaway. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay.
Absolutely perfect. Could not have found a better, cleaner, quiet, comfortable place to stay for our visit to Acadia NP. Pat the host was easy to communicate with. This cottage was part of us having a great vacation in the Bar Harbor area. I highly recommend this home for your stay. Bill and Mary V.
Excellent execution of design and layout of a summer waterfront cottage. The gate latch needs to be fixed, so it stays closed. The red squirrel has difficulty crossing from one side to the other.

Dear Robert,
Thank you for your kind comments about the layout and design of the cottage. As to the complaint by the little red squirrel that he has to jump the small gap at the top of the beach stairs gate, we thought he would get the hang of of it! However, he now clearly has an ally to advocate for him, so we will ask our handyman to fix the latch. Thanks for bringing it to our attention :)

A quaint and cozy cabin along the water is the perfect way to spend some time away to unwind. The cabin is clean with everything you could need. Pat and Bob were quick and easy to communicate with. The ice maker and water in the refrigerator were waiting on parts during our stay. They communicated the issue and provided ice and gallon drinking water for our stay.It was the perfect place to sit outside drink your coffee and listen to the nature around.

Thanks so much, Elizabeth, for the great review. And thanks for being understanding about the ice maker and water dispenser on the fridge. This problem has now been fixed but we are sorry we couldn't get it fixed fast enough for your stay. Every spring we come and stay a few days at the cottage to be sure everything is in good working order prior to our first guests. Unfortunately, this year, we were disappointed to discover that our Frigidaire refrigerator was malfunctioning in regard to the water valve on the fridge. The fridge is less that 2 years old and was purchased new so we were not expecting that a part would need to be ordered. They don't make them like they used to!
This is the perfect place to stay when visiting Acadia NP and Bar Harbor. Very nice cabin with everything you need in a quiet and beautiful location. Very close to great places to eat and the park. We would for sure stay here again if we return to the area. Thank you Pat and Bob for letting us enjoy your cabin.
This cabin was perfect! Very clean and very well stocked. Close to Bar Harbor and Acadia without being to close. Having a section of private beach was fantastic! Hosts were very helpful and easy to work with.
Host was very welcoming. Cottage was very neat, clean, and had a well-stocked kitchen. Great place for quiet contemplation and relaxing. Fantastic base to explore the wonders of Acadia and Maine. Highly recommended!
This was the perfect cottage for a peaceful getaway near Acadia National Park. The cottage is located on a small hill, directly next to the ocean, with steps to get down to the shoreline. The East facing windows made for amazing sunrises every morning, and it was so quiet. I hope to stay again the next time I visit.
Oceanfront cottage meets every need with cleanliness, perfect Acadia NP access, Cadillac mt range view with amazing sunrises, plus well stocked kitchen, comfy dining.& LR seating, great mattress coastal decor, shore access for walking, and calming deck views of the ocean.
The property was in close proximity to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The view from the property is why we selected this cabin. The unit was well equipped and maintained. Great communication with the owner.
The view was amazing, the home was divine, and the location couldn't be beat. We wanted to visit all three aspects of Acadia, and our stay put us close enough to everything. For our stay, it was perfectly peaceful, perfectly located, and perfectly set up for all your home-away-from-home needs.
This one- level cabin meet all of our needs as we explored Arcadia National Park. The space was well stocked and the owners are responsive - couldn't ask for more! It was rainy most of our stay and the cabin was cozy but the view of the water was breath-taking!
This property met all our expectations. Lots of room, clean, great views and fairly close to what we needed. The deck looking out at the lake was perfect for lunch and watching the birds.

Thanks so much to Jim for the great review. One point of clarification. The cottage is direct ocean front on Western Bay. Across the bay is Cadillac Mountain, in Acadia National Park. The cottage is not on a lake.
The Banachs have created a beautiful cottage in a peaceful setting overlooking the water. The cottage was very clean, well equipped, tastefully decorated and the beds were comfortable. The Banachs were attentive and responsive hosts. Will likely request to stay again in the future!
The oceanfront cottage was a perfect place to spend a relaxing week. Easy access to Acadia, quiet location, beautiful views of the sunrise over MDI, and a great kitchen for cooking. It was exactly what we were looking for.
Wonderful cottage right on the water. Amazing views from the breakfast nook and deck. Wonderful bakery and lobster place two miles away. We had a perfect week long stay.

About the host
Hosted by Robert and Patricia Banach
Bob and Pat are recently retired. Pat was a librarian and Bob worked in the insurance industry. We enjoy sharing our special place in Maine with guests. We have owned, managed, and rented this property since 1987. In 2023/24 we razed our beloved cabin and built a new small house which captures the charm of a Maine cabin. We use this cottage ourselves as do our adult children. This is not a bare bones rental, but one we share with those who are seeking a quiet Maine experience. Because we use the cabin ourselves, we hope it has all the amenities you need.
Why they chose this property
We love the peace and quiet on our 200 feet of private beach. We love the view across the bay to the mountains of Acadia National Park. We love watching the sunrise from the bedroom and the living/dining room, and the moon on the water at night. And we love watching to see a glimpse of seals in the bay.
What makes this property unique
Close to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor but away from the crowds in a quiet peaceful spot. Also convenient to Ellsworth for dining, grocery shopping and supplies.
