About this property

Cozy little apartment in the quiet Laugardalur valley area

Small private apartment/studio (bedroom, bathroom and a small kitchen area) in a quiet neighborhood next to Laugardalur valley, 7 min. drive to downtown Reykjavík. This is a ground floor/semi-basement space (4 steps down) restored with quality furnishings and furniture. Includes a washing machine, dryer, espresso maker, TV and free wi-fi.
Please note that the ceiling is a bit low (215 cm).

Parking is free in this neighborhood where you'll find the largest outdoor thermal pool in Iceland, a Family Park and Zoo, botanical garden, Restaurants, cafés and art museums.

Our goal is to provide our guests with a nice and clean private space with a comfortable bed, bathroom and simple kitchen where they can enjoy free wifi, TV and prepare simple meals at a fair price.

Please note: Our building is currently undergoing exterior upgrades. Work is mostly outside and does not affect the interior (which is in perfect condition), but there may be occasional noise during daytime hours.

For some reason our listing says that the property has an outdoor pool. This is not true. Neither us or the VRBO team are able to change this for now, so please keep this in mind.

The studio was all expected. Nothing fancy, but everything seemed to work well. No problems with anything. Good price and perfect for my needs. A jewel of a find! The location is very close to everything Reykjavík - 10 minutes at most to the best restaurants, shops and sights. But in a very quiet little neighborhood. The apartment was very clean, had a terrific king sized bed, a well equipped kitchen with plenty of Nespresso pods, a multi function microwave/convection oven, and a washer and dryer. Street parking was free and plentiful. The hosts were so very welcoming - exactly what makes vrbo amazing to book with. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We found the space to have everything we needed, and the beds were very comfortable. We were able to cook to save some money on food, and it was great to have a safe space of our own for a few days!

First night, we had difficulty getting to sleep until 1:30-2:00am due to two dogs barking on floor above us. We counselled the hosts about this issue the next morning and the noise issue was never repeated. Hosts also gave an unsolicited token Euro refund as a gesture of remorse. It was appreciated. We would still return, as we believe it was simply a mistake made by the hosts. We were very satisfied overall!! Tip; A few blocks away, can easily take the #14 city bus back and forth Downtown.

I grew up in the suburbs of Reykjavík but have also lived in Spain, Portugal and Los Angeles.
What I miss the most when I leave Iceland is the hot and cold water, the contrast between winter darkness and sunlight in the summer and our extraordinary nature. Therefore I strongly recommend that our guests try the geothermal swimming pool at Laugardalur and late night walks in the botanical park in Laugardalur valley in the summer time.

Why they chose this property

Ásvegur 16 is one of the charming old houses of Reykjavík (built in 1947). It used to be divided into three apartments, housing three families back in the day. It has been renovated on the inside and the outside renovation is planned for autumn 2024.

What makes this property unique


The apartment has been restored to be as luxurious as possible. It has natural stone flooring, comfy bed, quality furniture and furnishings. It offers a washing machine, dryer and a large TV.
