Hunger Mountain Guest House is a 7 bedroom, self-catered vacation rental located in beautiful Waterbury Center, Vermont – minutes from many of Vermont’s best attractions! Home includes a fully equipped new kitchen, dining room, and large living room with gas stove. With 7 bedrooms, 5 ½ baths, plus a cot, there is plenty of space for groups and families. Location is 5 miles to I-89, 6 miles to Stowe Village, and very close to Ben & Jerry’s, Cold Hollow Cider Mill, and the Waterbury Reservoir State Park. Waterbury is home to some of the best restaurants and craft beer in Vermont! Includes onsite parking, snow removal, and many other amenities such as hair dryers, ironing board, washer and dryer, board games. All linens provided. Fire pit, gardens, porch, patio, outdoor games. Just across the street is Hope Davey Park with ball fields, a skate park, playground, 18-hole Frisbee golf, and cross-country skiing/snowshoeing trails. The owners live on site in the front house and the large guest house is behind it.

Please note: there is a three night minimum stay. Up to two dogs are allowed for an additional fee.

Excellent location for winter fun and family gatherings - close to Trapp family lodge for cross country skiing, Stowe and Bolton Valley for downhill skiing, parks, and local shopping/breweries. Nice and quiet neighborhood, very comfortable house for a large extended family group, well-equipped kitchen, plenty of parking, and very responsive hosts.

Great Extended Family Home Away from Home

Erica an Chris were great hosts during the week that our extended family stayed at their guest house. They were always available when we needed them but never to the pint of intruding despite living on the same property. They were terrific. Their guest home had plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms and common space which made for great breakfast conversations and exciting board game nights! The location was great as there were many things to do nearby yet tge home was in a quiet neighborhood I would heartily recommend this property to any family who wants to spend quality time together

Great place for Large Groups

Plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms, dining & den large enough for everyone can be together. Close to several state parks for hiking & swimming. There is horseback riding but you need to pay in cash. Nice bakeries & bistro/pubs. Erica was attentive & accommodating.

Travel Fantasy Fulfilled!

We could not have chosen a better location for our multigenerational family gathering. This large, very clean and comfortable residence suited us perfectly. It was in a quiet locale yet conveniently close to lots of high quality purveyors of excellent local food and drink. We were also conveniently close to primo biking and hiking trails. Kayaking at the nearby reservoir was a delight. Erica and Chris were great communicators and very accommodating, generous hosts. As I said, this was the ideal place for us. We would love to return to this idyllic spot.

An excellent stay at an incredible property

Erica was extremely friendly/communicative. Our group was from all over the country, so arrival times were staggered - we were given access details well in advance, and a friendly welcoming sign if we needed anything. The property is excellent - a very manageable drive to the hills at Stowe, comfy beds, plenty of washrooms, a great kitchen, and the coziest living room. When you walked in the front door, it really felt like you were home. Hopefully we’ll be back!!

Great setup for a big family reunion

We enjoyed this house a lot! 3 generations including 4 families and we all had enough space. Kitchen was fully stocked with cooking basics and the family room was comfy! The location is gorgeous- we fully enjoyed the fire pit and the park across the street, as well as the cool places in town.

This was a very clean and spacious place for a large group. Conveniently located to just about everything also. Just outside of Stowe and away from all the hustle and bussle. Set in a quiet neighborhood and only 10 min away from Stowe. Erica and Chris were very responsive to any questions I had. Would definitely come back again.

Family fun in Vermont

Erica and Chris are wonderful hosts... always available for any problems that may arise... lending us their large skillet so we could cook a large family meal and unlocking doors when we we were locked out. Love this location... the house is large enough for our family to spread out with each of us having our own bedroom and adjoining bathroom.. look forward to returning to this same spot!!!!

A great big place for our special family event

The Hunger Mountain property had enough space for our big family visiting Waterbury VT for a destination wedding. It had the bedrooms, bathrooms, common space, and good size kitchen. Plus it was central to all of the wedding events. Erica and Chris were responsive, kind, and accommodating. We may never return because it took all of us an entire year of planning to be there together, but we will always remember!

Great place for large families

I was coordinating 12 family members from different states staying together for a local college graduation. This house was perfect. Plenty of rooms and beds, with space for everyone to hang out or do their own thing. The little kids loved the large yard with plenty of room to roam, plus there is a great park across the street for them. The older kids loved the corn hole game and room to hang out. The adults enjoyed the puzzles, table space, comfortable family area by a fireplace. Also a great area, we found plenty of really great food options in the area and it was close to Stowe where there is plenty to do. The host family was very responsive and gave some great recommendations for food and activities. All in all a great trip and a great area. Thanks!

Perfect winter get away location for family friends!

We loved our stay at this property! We had a family of 7 and a family of 4 stay with kids ranging from 3-13 years old. The accommodations were perfect with plenty of dining and relaxing space as well as bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking. We primarily went to ski and it was an easy drive to Stowe. For the younger kids that did not ski each day, Erica and Chris provided us with sleds to use in the state park just down the road. Erica and Chris could not have been more kind or helpful if we needed something for the house or an idea of where to go to have fun or enjoy a restaurant. We will definitely stay here again!

Perfect house for multiple families

Very well equipped house and kitchen for a comfortable, relaxing family weekend close to Waterbury attractions. Owners are very friendly and welcoming! It was nice that we could bring our dogs along. Gas fireplace makes the living room very cozy and our kids enjoyed working together on jigsaw puzzles and playing board games. Kitchen had everything we needed for making some memorable meals and everything was clean and orderly.

Comfortable lodging with lots of great accomodations

The house is large and comfortable with very pleasant dining and living rooms and a well-stocked kitchen. The hosts were super-accommodating and communicative. The firepit and the supply of games and puzzles were a nice touch. We arrived during a heat wave. but between the air conditioned rooms and the supplied fans, the house remained a reasonable temperature throughout. All in all, it was an excellent experience and would definitely return if I were in the area with a large group again.

Close to town and had a large park right across the street. The owners were very nice and always available to help with anything we needed. Many things were supplied that other owners haven’t. We liked being in Waterbury Center rather than Stowe. The downtown area was easily accessible with many choices of places to eat. The house is spacious and charming. We would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Amazing Location

This house is great and the owners are amazing! I came for a 30th birthday party that turned into a brewery tour and this place was perfectly situated between Waterbury and Stowe and all the food/cheese/beer this area offers. There was a fire pit with tons of wood and a park directly across the street with disc golf, and the owner provides the discs. 10/10 would recommend if not only for how nice the owners were. Thanks Erica!!

Hunger Mountain House was a historic ski hotel (owned by one of America's first women ski instructors, Martha Guthridge) turned into a B&B, owned by George & Pat von Trapp. It is now a 7-bedroom guesthouse for large groups to enjoy, owned by Erica & Chris. Erica is a 6-generation Vermonter with a career in food systems; Chris is from outside of Philly. Erica and Chris raised their kids in VT and now split time between VT & Kansas City, near University of Kansas where Chris is a professor.

Why they chose this property

House house is in a cute neighborhood across the street from Hope Davey Park, and a half mile off of Rt 100, the Waterbury Reservior State Park, and Cold Hollow Cider. It's 12 minutes to Stowe Village and 8 minutes to downtown Waterbury.
