Needed 7 bedrooms for 9 people
The Sacramento McMansionAfter paying for the house rental, we encountered quite some difficulty getting check-in information from our “host” until a day before our stay. Getting to the location took us through a mixed residential/industrial moderate income neighborhood, with a busy elementary school, mostly small houses, older apartment buildings, and front yards protected by fences. There were no street trees, but many trees and flowering plants around all the homes - except this rental. When we arrived, we found the rolling gate was locked with cheap bicycle cable locks. The barely functional sliding doors lead us to the “yard”: an old parking lot, with an abandon basketball court. Inside, the windows were covered with fake satin, and then vinyl blackout curtains that don’t match the size and shape of the windows. The photos had not revealed how shabby the house is. The upstairs (where most of the bedrooms are!) did not function. That led to several communications with our host, and it was finally corrected the following afternoon. The kitchen, with contact-paper counter tops, had no dishwasher, mixed donation quality flatware, The bedrooms had combination access locks, which were not locked -a sure sign that this had been a some kind of a rehab or care facility. Each bedroom had a single bath towel, most had no cloth hangers. Only one bathroom had a towel bar (installed upside down). There were no toilet paper holders. You don’t verify your listings.
