About this property
Edgewater "The Landing" Coastal 3 bedroom Duplex. Private beach, Relax and enjoy
Want a well appointed coastal space for your next getaway, with awesome sunrises and sunsets, nature calling (eagle nest or Osprey near the end of the pier)and a place to enjoy yourself? Year round, this is the place. No fighting the traffic or crowds, this lovely home is located on Holiday Island, a small residential community on the Albemarle Sound, 15 minutes away from the main roadway (Route 17 or also known as Ocean Highway). Located 30 minutes from Edenton and 30 minutes from Elizabeth City. 60-90 minutes from Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake (lots of military bases and museums) and the Outer Banks . There are many small towns close by to visit and explore.
The entire upstairs of the home has a fully equipped kitchen and sleeps 7 comfortably . There is a sleeper sofa which can sleep 2 more for an additional fee of 40 per night. There is a 70' flat screen in the great room. Cable TV Wireless internet is provided. Pandora and Netflix are already on the TV sets. Each bedroom has a TV and comfortable mattresses. Two bedrooms have a queen bed. The other bedroom has a twin over full bunk bed. There are two and a half bathrooms, one with soaker tub, the other with walk in shower. All linens and towels are provided. We also supply beach towels and complimentary coffee, tea, sugar, creamer along with some paper towels and toilet paper to tide you over until you get to the store. You can bring some firewood as there is a fire pit next to the beach and a picnic table right in the side yard or over the water to have your meals. There are beautiful views from Captain's Quarters overlooking the water (just 30 feet away). The Captain's Quarters has dining table for 4 on its' lovely deck looking over the Albemarle Sound. Enjoy the wonderful southern breeze coming from over the water on the pier while watching the pair of eagles, hawks, egrets and on rare occasions, dolphins. The exterior areas of the home are continuously improved with garden statuary, palm trees and other surprizes to create a mini resort atmosphere. The children will enjoy using the cove, picking up clams or crabs off of its sandy bottom. There is a crab pot provided and they can enjoy kayaking in the shallow cove. For the more adventurous, there are many canals, and you can spend a few hours exploring them in the kayaks. There are nine freshwater rivers that feed into this sound making it a great place to fish. So a boat would be really nice to have. The ramp is located in the community center about 3 minutes away. Fishing in the canals or out in the sound, you can catch catfish, flounder, croaker, large mouth bass, striped rockfish (striped bass), white perch, crappie, trout, speckled trout, puppy or slot drum (redfish), gray trout, spadefish, sheapshead, tautogs, bluefish, spanish mackerel. Anyone that has fished here has said that fishing was great.
There are also beach chairs, umbrellas, corn hole boards, life jackets, , paddles for the kayaks and fishing rod holder for the brown kayak.
A quick note and warning. When you are playing music, keep in mind that there is a new noise ordnance, issued in 2017, that limits noise to no more than 50 feet past the property line, throughout the county. That includes playing music, singing, shouting, fighting or creating noise through loud or boisterous speech, audible off premises. Parents can be help accountable for violations. The same applies to the neighbors. The sheriff (252 426 5615) is responsible for enforcing the new ordinance and carries anything from a warning, $100 fine or 30 days in jail.
My wife has an Art and Music Studio on the property, called Rose Gate Studio for the Arts.If you are interested in doing some “one on one” art lessons, art projects with your family and friends or just music lessons, give us a call ahead of time. About the host
Hosted by Nora Crouch

We cherish the tranquility of water and nature. Our Virginia Beach home boasted views of a stunning reservoir teeming with wildlife. For retirement, we dreamed of a smaller, similar home on the intra-coastal waterway within a peaceful community. We ended up rebuilding the home into 4000 sq foot home instead. We envisioned a 'rush hour' so calm that one might only hear a golf cart or a solitary car if they listened closely. I believe we have achieved that dream.
Since 2013, we've made our retreat available to travelers throughout the year.

Why they chose this property
In 2012, my husband and I stumbled upon Holiday Island during a trip. We were captivated by the home's view and its prime location between two charming towns, Edenton and Elizabeth City. We purchased the property and embarked on transforming it into our dream retirement resort. Our friends, intrigued by our venture, inquired about renting it for weekends or weeks. Consequently, we opened it to guests year-round starting in early 2013. Holiday Island isn't a typical tourist spot; it's a serene place to unwind, stroll, or enjoy a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine). We constructed a 181-foot pier featuring a 16x24 platform with a picnic table at its center. Our boat is moored there on a lift. On clear days, guests can join us for a boat ride on the country's largest freshwater sound. We also acquired the adjacent lot, adding 150 feet of private space. The pier, nestled within a cove, has water depths ranging from 8 to 24 inches near the bulkhead and deepens by approximately 12 inches towards the end. Beyond the cove, the depth reaches 5 feet and extends to 15-20 feet further out. The cove's sandy bottom, dotted with seagrass, is perfect for launching provided kayaks or for children to frolic in. The extra lot allowed us to install a beach, areas for cornhole, bocce, or croquet, and a second pergola amidst a palm tree haven. Additionally, we erected a stunning barn on this lot, which now accommodates an art studio and a music studio.
What makes this property unique
Just a 15-minute journey from the island, you'll find the town of Hertford, chartered in 1758, which is the seventh oldest town in North Carolina. This charming town boasts an old-fashioned pharmacy with a soda fountain counter, an art gallery, a coffee shop, antique and thrift stores, —perfect for a rainy day activity.
Adjacent to Holiday Island is Albemarle Plantation, where the public is invited to enjoy dining in their splendid clubhouse and grill. The food is excellent, and the welcoming atmosphere is consistent. Additional details about dining options and activities can be found in the welcome package.
The region is rich in history, with Edenton founded on November 6, 1712, and Elizabeth City in 1793. The Outer Banks, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Virginia Beach, and many other destinations are just an hour to an hour and a half's drive away. Day trips to the ocean are a great way to avoid the traffic and high costs associated with staying there. The local fishing is superb, and boating adds to the enjoyment of the area. Six kayaks are available on the property, and guests are welcome to bring their own boats to launch from the island's boat ramp. During the summer, the pier maintains a water level of about 16-30 inches, allowing you to dock your boat or personal watercraft during the day.
