The Tern Inn is the perfect way to spend your vacation with family or friends.
This beautiful, pet-friendly, 2-story home was created with your family and friends in mind. We have a custom-made, ten foot dining table that easily seats 14, two separate sitting rooms with cable television, DVD players and private baths attached to each of the four bedrooms. We have over 35 windows that offer beautiful views of the ocean or intracoastal waterway so you can relax and enjoy the view from anywhere in the house.
We are also one of the few homes on the island with an elevator for easy accessibility from all floors and a full-size handicap bathroom with fully equipped shower.
You will fall instantly in love with rocking in the chairs on the back deck while taking in the breathtaking views of the ocean that have made Holden Beach one of the most popular family beaches around.
We have stocked our home to help you forget about the busyness of life and fall in love with kicking off your shoes and getting back in touch with fun and relaxation. We offer a library of books for your vacation reading downtime and boogie boards & sand toys for the kids (okay, the adults too). You can even come straight off the beach to the private outdoor shower and picnic area on the carport level.
We love our beach house and we think you will too. For larger families or groups, consider renting our additional oceanfront property 'Sandcastle' (VRBO # 442909) next door.

We so enjoyed our stay! Love all the windows! This home is beautiful, and the views are amazing. The kitchen had anything you could possibly need, and having an elevator was such a plus when we arrived and departed! Debbie was very quick to respond to any questions or needs. Thank you for this wonderful property to make family memories!!
Clean and roomy for grandparents and family. Excellent kitchen. Close to the beach for she'll looking and treasure hunting. We have be her several years and will definitely come back!
What a great house! TV’s all flat screens, living room and dining room is huge and a great place with the ocean outside. Porch is amazing, there are 5 (!) bathrooms! An elevator, and the public access right next to house is a ramp, so you can get to the beach without a single step! I have rented. Number of houses, and this was the best by a long shot! Owner is very responsive, place was clean and has everything you need!!
We have stayed multiple times at Holden Beach and this was by far our best experience. Owner was easy to work with and very responsive when needed. House and description were both excellent.
Will be back
This was the perfect stay for our family vacation. The location was awesome for the baby and a family member with a disability. Plus our two dogs loved it. Luckily there is a public beach access right beside the house that made it very easy to get the beach cart out!
We booked this house because it’s oceanfront, as we had not been to the ocean in quite some time, and wanted to enjoy it to the fullest. The other main reason was the handicap access and elevator, for my disabled dad. The house was great for our needs. And let’s not forget to talk about the awesome view! It was so great to be able to see and hear the ocean all day. The town is great, very family oriented…not a bunch if riff raff like you’d see in other towns. Just all around a great, relaxing experience! Thank you so much!
We were here the week of tropical storm Debby, so had to spend more time inside the house than on the beach unfortunately. There were no issues with the house during the storms and we had power and internet all week, so we stayed the duration, even though the mayor announced a voluntary evacuation. Debbie the owner checked in on us and the house during the worst, and was also responsive to all our questions before the trip. The house suited our needs pretty well. There are big flat screen tvs in all the bedrooms and living rooms. The internet and streaming work well. The porch facing the beach is great, with nice rockers. The furniture is comfortable and plenty of space in the dining and living areas. The kitchen has plenty of cookware, dishes and appliances. There's an extra fridge on the bottom floor which was great for drink storage. There is a good supply of extra blankets and pillows. The elevator is very sensitive and we couldn't get it working on move out day, so that was inconvenient.
Aside from the weather, we had a very comfortable stay at Tern Inn!

Liked: Check-in, communication
Disliked: Cleanliness
Nostalgic in good and bad ways
Pros:
- Beach is great and it’s located on a nice area of the island
- Outside of the house is very nice
- Included some beach chairs and other beach “nice to haves”
Cons:
- House was very dirty when we arrived - bedspreads were sandy and dirty - we had to wash them before we could sleep in the beds
- House hasn’t been updated in many years and felt pretty run down
- Paid extra for linens and towels - bath towels were very old, tattered and dingy, beach towels were nice, linens were okay, but a bit annoying you have to make your own beds when you’re paying extra for them
- The house is directly next to the public beach access, which means the beach area in front of the house is crowded, and if you want a place to sit in front of the house you have to get to the beach before 6am to save your spot before the tent rental guys come and set up in front of the house.
Our family has been going to Holden Beach for over 30 years. We absolutely love it. We like this area of the island and we were excited to find this house, as it reminded us of the ones we’d always stay in when we were kids. Unfortunately, that’s a little more nostalgia than we expected as the house really hasn’t been updated in that period of time. There were a lot of broken and heavily worn items in the house. On the plus side, it was less expensive than some of the other houses we looked at, but I suppose you get what you pay for. The location next to the public access is a big negative. Host was very nice
Our stay was fabulous! The house offered great spaces for all 7 of us to be together and to spread out. The large dining table allowed us to have meals together. The outdoor spaces were wonderful as well. There were plenty of beach chairs and it was a very short walk to the beach.
There was a problem with the air conditioning not keeping the house cool enough. I communicated with the manager and was directed to speak to the AC repair company who then told me the AC units were doing the best they could with the extreme heat. The manager offered window units but we didn’t want that due to the noise. The house was just cool enough during the day but we were not quite cool enough at night.
Our two suggestions would be for the kitchen to have more silverware and in our opinion all mattresses need to be replaced. All mattresses were extremely soft and sunk in the middle.
Overall the house was great and we had a wonderful time! Thank you for allowing us to use your beautiful house!
First time in Holden Beach and could not be better. House has everything you need for a family get together in a small quiet beach town. Beautiful views, steps to the beach which was uncrowded during our visit and full of shells, each bedroom has its own bathroom, equipped kitchen large enough to cook, extra fridge on the first floor, many spaces to hang out all together or in smaller groups. Elevator and extra handicap-accessible bathroom came in handy for my 85 yr old mother, plus another family member with a bum knee. Town had a nicely stocked grocery store, friendly people, and many delicious restaurants only minutes away. Wasn't sure how our first extended family beach vacation would go, but now we're already planning our next visit in this house. (Lastly, we're grateful pet-friendly means "feline friendly" too for those with travel savvy cats who don't like being left behind and will happily enjoy a sunny ocean view window with family.)
Wow. This rental has thought of everything. From the multiple hoses outside to rinse off sand to a power strip on nightstands to allow for multiple chargers and easy access. We loved every minute of our beach week because of so many thoughtful details. The house had several beach bikes that allowed us to take a 1 mile easy stroll to the general store for treats. The house has so many windows to allow for you to really feel like you're on the beach from the house. Kitchen is stocked with anything you could need and easy assess to the house with an electric lock. Couldn't ask for anything more and this may be the best rental house I've ever stayed in. Highly recommend!
We had a wonderful visit and were able to truly relax at the beach in a family friendly environment. The elevator made it accessible for our 2 family members with mobility concerns and the bedrooms and bathrooms were well situated for our needs, including a handicapped bathroom. I recommend this beautiful spot.
The property is great. Enough bedrooms and baths for all of us to have privacy and communal areas are large enough for us to have room to spread out. We always enjoy our stay. The kite flying right on the beach facing the house was great and the little pups (chihuahua & yorkie) loved their walks on the beach!
This is such a lovely home with all the necessary amenities to make for a wonderful stay. It was clean and comfortable and the location was perfect. I would recommend this house without hesitation.
Great house - really suitable for our group of six.
- Elevator was SO helpful for loading/unloading & essential for one of us who can't do stairs.
- Open LR/DR/kitchen layout terrific & really functional.
- Plenty of seating space in the living room & at the kitchen table.
- There are not just one but 3 card tables & 4 chairs - we happily used them for jigsaw puzzles.
- Second refrigerator on the street level beside the elevator also VERY helpful for our group.
- The kitchen has just about every pot, pan, or utensil that you might need, including knives, wine openers, a blender, etc. Great lighting & large counter spaces as well as a pantry waiting to be filled. We had luck with the spices left there, too.
- One thing that's maddening about some beach houses is the requirement that you make your own beds when you arrive. This is one of those. I get it - the window between 10 am departure times & 4 pm arrival times is brief & universal for most houses on the beach. But no. Just no.
- Many windows in the house will not open. Even if they did, there are no screens for the windows or doors so flies are an issue.
- Bring a second coffee pot as the only one available is very small and pretty old.
- Recycling center 12 minutes away.
All that said, it was a wonderful week with friends and we will be back!
We really enjoyed our stay at Holden beach. We absolutely love the house and it had everything we needed for our family of 6. The kitchen was stocked with all we needed to cook meals several times during our stay. The elevator was perfect for my elderly father so he could avoid the steps. Debbie was a pleasure to work with and responded promptly to any questions we had. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!
The Tern Inn was a great beach front vacation home. Plenty of room for our family and the deck provided sun and shade.
Our fur babies also enjoyed the deck an early morning beach walks.
Tern Inn was convenient to restaurants and activities of interest to us. My favorite activity was relaxing on that deck.
We had a issue with the HVAC and the property owner was very prompt in resolving the issue
We would definitely book the Tern Inn again.
House had a wonderful set up for my elderly mother. Great location for her to sit on the porch and enjoy the view of the beach. Definitely will rent this again.
