About this property
“Dutch Harbor”-Mackinaw City, walking distance to town!
This cozy cottage is the largest of 3 on a large wooded lot on the west side of town. Outside is a park like setting with firepits, charcoal grill, and outdoor seating. A large deck is perfect for family meals or just relaxing. It was completely renovated in 2013 (with smaller updates since) with a cottage theme in color and décor. The full kitchen includes a dishwasher and is equipped to prepare all your meals. It has 1 1/2 baths which include a washer and dryer. There are 2 bedrooms- each has a queen bed. The living room has a tv with cable, books and games. 2026- new 40” smart tv and improved wi-fi. (NOTE- the loft is no longer available for sleeping). The cheery back porch has a day bed with trundle- perfect for reading or taking a nap. This comfortable cottage is well suited for families of all ages, couples, and business travelers as internet is included. An added benefit is that all 3 cottages on this large property can be rented for larger groups/families. There is much to see and do with in walking distance- from shops, restaurants and ferries to Mackinac Island to beaches and hiking trails. And just a short drive away is The Headlands (a dark sky park), Wilderness State Park, M119 Tunnel of Trees, and the famous Mackinac Bridge leading to the beautiful Upper Peninsula.

What a wonderful stay. The communication was amazing. The place was well equipped, clean and so nice. Better than described! The location was perfect. We would definitely stay again!
The cabin was charming and located in a very quiet neighborhood. The location was very close to all the attractions we wanted to see during our stay. We would definitely recommend staying here.

Awesome cottage. Everything was comfortable and really clean. You can't get much closer to the bridge and to Mackinac city. The check in was very smooth and easy. This was our 1st time using Vrbo and not a hotel. This way way better in every way. We will most definitely be back again..
My family really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean, very cute, and reasonably priced. The host communication was great. Exactly what we were wanting. 10/10 recommend!

Thank you Karen- glad our place worked well for you and you could enjoy Mackinw. We appreciate the positive review!
Dutch Harbor was an excellent choice for our family. Dining, shopping and transit to Mackinac Island were all very accessible and within easy walking distance from our location. As a matter of fact we didn’t move the cars out of the driveway at all on Saturday. The neighborhood was very quiet and the property was well kept. There were plenty of towels for the six of us. The property was well stocked with all necessary supplies. The hosts were very easy to work with and check-in was a breeze. Would definitely recommend. The other two units on the property looked very lovely as well. We definitely made the right choice and I wouldn’t hesitate to book again.

The location was perfect. Close to everything, yet far enough removed to feel peaceful and quiet. The house was so cozy and comfortable. If only every location could be this enjoyable.
Wonderful stay. It was cozy. Love how it was close to everything but felt private.

About the host
Hosted by Todd and Jacki VanHuis
We bought this property in 2011 after riding by (and ignoring) it for years. Then we spent the next 22 months gutting and remodeling all 3 cottages ourselves in our "spare time" as we live 4 hours away down state. We wanted a place we could enjoy with our children who were growing up and would be bringing spouses and their families up north someday. This place brings us lots of joy as we spend time in our favorite places in Michigan- Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island with our favorite people.
Why they chose this property
This property gave us the rooms we wanted to have family and friends stay with us, the space to be outside and have campfires while being just a short walk to town. We are close to the action, but have our own quiet getaway.
What makes this property unique
With 3 cottages on one large property, family can stay with us but have their own cottage. A group of veterans and their wives was able to stay here for a reunion- with a total of 5 bedrooms and daybed on the back porch of one cottage this group had a great week together. The large oaks and maples provide shade and beauty.
