We booked the Acorn last minute to extend our vacation after a week with the full family. The charm and warmth of the cottage was instantly decompressing. It was the perfect place to relax and take excursions in the area with our son and dog. Hoping to stay longer in the future!

Thanks, Aaron! We're very glad you and your family could relax at the cottage. Please come back to stay even longer next time!
The host was responsive upon the arrival and within hours after that. The furniture was not very comfortable and the bedrooms were small and didn’t have a closet or place for clothes. The view of the lake was beautiful and we enjoyed looking out over the lake. Over all we enjoyed our stay.
Lovely lake and location. The cottage is perfectly charming. Wonderful parks and historic sites nearby, nice little stores and towns and very good restaurants.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed your stay! We look forward to having you stay again soon!
We loved our stay at Acorn Cottage! The cottage was easy to get to, and it was in a nice, quiet neighborhood. It was clean with just enough space for our family of four (our 4-legged family member included). There's a beautiful view over looking the lake from the back deck area. Hopefully, our next stay will be during warmer temps, so we can go for a swim. The bathroom was stocked with plenty of towels, and the kitchen had plenty of glasses, plates, and utensils to use. If you're looking for a home away from home, this is the place! Thank you to our hosts for sharing this beautifully decorated cottage with us!
We LOVED this cottage! Very cozy and clean! We enjoyed the lake views and great location. We will be back and bring our littles and kayaks next time!

Hi Lisa - Thanks for the great review! We'd be delighted to have you stay with us again!
This place is c completely awesome. Very clean, gorgeous views, super close to Mackinawand the UP, just great. The pontoon boat was in great shape. I read that someone didn’t like this place and chose to stay in a hotel!?!? Clearly they have some screws loose, this place is top notch.

Beautiful cottage of beautiful lake. I feel the pictures didnt do the cottage justice it was much nicer than i expected. Very clean and cozy with every at home amenities i could want. Pontoon is available for rental during the stay for a very reasonable price. While out on the lake we saw bald eagles numerous times over the lake. Was a great view. Will definitely stay at acorn cottage in the future

Thanks for the great review, Jennifer - we really appreciate it! We hope you'll stay with us again next year!
Convenient, clean & cozy. Easy booking via VRBO. Jennifer was prompt, and courteous with responses. Note...no AC installed but the area temp dropped on the first night and stayed down during our visit. Since our goal was to spend time around each Great Lake this was the perfect location for us. Many thanks to Jennifer and VRBO for the great service!

About the host
Hosted by Jennifer Schafer
The "Acorn Cottage" named itself when we were looking it over to buy it 2 decades ago. We looked under the mattress in one of the bedrooms and discovered ten neat little rows of "stashed" acorns. We opened the dresser drawer, and there were more acorns. We checked the attic space, and there were more acorns. Everywhere we looked . . . more acorns! The local chipmunks had quite the feast stored for the winter. You'll see a few of those acorns in an air-tight jar on the fireplace mantel. Now, the chipmunks still store their acorns, but outside the cottage, not inside!
Why they chose this property
Our cottage is in the little town of Carp Lake, MI. We have enjoyed vacationing in this area for 30 years. We find the peaceful and tranquil area of Mackinaw very rejuvinating. This beautiful woodland area offers great natural peace. We found Acorn Cottage as we were looking for a retirement home in Northern Michigan. The entire "Tip of the Mitt" area is rich in history with so much to do. Go for a peaceful walk, ride bikes along the quiet roadways and trails, enjoy both sunrises and sunsets from the back porch and 2 decks, or dip your toes into the shallow, soft sandy lakeshore around the dock.
What makes this property unique
Acorn Cottage is surrounded by quiet, natural beauty. You can listen to the unique sound of the loons on the lake. A pair of bald eagles make their home in the nature preserve nearby. In the evening, sit on the dock and watch the sunset. Take a boat ride on the pontoon. The fishing is great on the lake, for pike, bass, and perch. If you want to go hiking, Wilderness State Park is just a few miles away. There are plenty of hiking trails to walk or drive along the road and see the woodland and lakeshore beauty. The sand dunes are also just a few miles away. Go to dinner at Audie's in Mackinaw City or Legg's Inn in Cross Village, and on your way enjoy the sand dunes and beach shoreline of the Straits of Mackinac. You can walk for miles on open beach along the Straits of Mackinac. If it's shopping you enjoy, go to Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island and spend the day (or more). There is plenty to do around our cottage. So go relax, and enjoy.
