Amazing location and house. 10/10. Beautifully renovated, plenty of space and great community and location. Had everything we needed. Will definitely be back!
Loved this property - just the cutest cabin & the mountain views were amazing! (Look for the waterfall in the community and try the hilltop swings at the cabin.) Comfie beds and nicely outfitted with everything we needed.
Beautiful house with a beautiful view. House was finished nicely. Everyone thought the beds were very comfortable. It was nice to be in the mountains and nature. We would certainly stay here again.
Thank you guys for letting us enjoy your home! The views were absolutely breath taking! I loved the serene drive up to the property, wild life, sunset and sunrise! AMAZING! Only note I have is that if I were looking for a home during the colder months, I would have missed out on this listing because I filter for a hot tub. Adding a hot tub would make this a well sought after property year round! Thanks again
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The house was incredibly clean and well taken care of. No details were forgotten. Hosts were great and communicative, but we had no problems. If you’re looking for a getaway with a Mountain View, this is it. The drive is definitely one that would require four wheel drive depending on the weather but it is beyond worth it.
Smooth check-in, fully stocked kitchen, linens bed and bathroom top notch, swings awesome, chairs around the fire pit so comfortable but the view and seclusion and privacy the best. Everything was clean and well though out. Easy to get to also. Hated to leave!!! Thanks Theresa and Jon!!
We’re Theresa and Jon, your hosts and local real estate brokers who have called the North Carolina High Country home for over 20 years. Theresa made the move from Boston, Jon from Atlanta, and both of us could not imagine calling anywhere else home.
When we’re not helping clients find their place in the High Country, you’ll usually find us out enjoying it ourselves. We spend our free time hiking local trails with our three dogs (Talon, Lola, & Jolene), cruising the Blue Ridge Parkway, exploring nearby mountain towns like Boone and West Jefferson, or checking out the latest craft brews across the region.
Hosting gives us the opportunity to share what we love most about this area with others. Whether it’s recommending a scenic overlook, a hidden hiking trail, a great local restaurant, or a laid-back brewery, we’re here to help you experience the High Country like a local.
We’re passionate about this place and genuinely enjoy helping others discover what makes it so special. If there’s anything you need during your stay, or if you just want a few insider tips, we’re always happy to help.
We look forward to hosting you!
Why they chose this property
What makes Buck Mountain special is the experience right outside your door. Miles of private hiking trails wind through the community, leading you to scenic overlooks, quiet wooded paths, and even beautiful waterfalls. There are multiple parks and picnic areas perfect for a relaxed afternoon, plus a stocked (catch & release) pond where you can cast a line and unwind. It’s the kind of place where you can spend the entire day exploring without ever leaving the neighborhood.
At the same time, Buck Mountain’s location makes it easy to enjoy everything the North Carolina High Country has to offer. You’re a short drive to West Jefferson, Boone, and Wilkesboro, each offering their own mix of restaurants, shops, breweries, and local charm. The Blue Ridge Parkway is close by for some of the best scenic drives in the Southeast, along with endless opportunities for hiking, sightseeing, and outdoor adventure.
We’re Jon and Theresa, your hosts, and longtime locals who love sharing this area with our guests. Whether you want to stay close and enjoy all that Buck Mountain has to offer, or venture out and explore the surrounding towns, we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
What makes this property unique
Chalk Dust Overlook is set on 12 secluded acres in the heart of Buck Mountain, this cabin offers a level of privacy that’s hard to find. Perched on a knoll, you’ll be surrounded by nothing but nature. Long-range mountain views stretch in multiple directions, creating the perfect backdrop for a quiet morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.
Outdoor living is at the center of the experience here. With two covered porches and an open-air deck, you’ll always have the perfect spot to take in the views. Whether you’re enjoying sunrise, watching the weather roll across the mountains, or simply unwinding after a day of exploring. The fire pit area is ideal for gathering at night, with plenty of seating to relax under the stars and enjoy the crisp mountain air.
Inside, the cabin has been thoughtfully renovated with comfort in mind, blending modern updates with a warm, mountain feel. Multiple living areas, cozy fireplaces, and inviting spaces make it easy for families or small groups to spread out and settle in.
One of our favorite parts of this property is the connection to nature. It’s common to spot deer passing through, hear the sounds of the forest, and truly feel removed from the pace of everyday life. This is the kind of place where you can slow down, breathe a little deeper, and enjoy the quiet.
Whether you’re here for the views, the privacy, or the outdoor spaces, Chalk Dust Overlook offers a true mountain escape.
