This was the third year my wife, two kids, and I stayed at Apfel Haus for our August vacation, this time with another couple and their son. The house and grounds were, again, peaceful, private, and a joy to be in and around, both while relaxing and while working. The kitchen is spacious, well stocked, and fun to cook in. Our kids loved to visit the goats and chickens every day. The hosts, as before, were responsive and super helpful when we had a question or needed something. It's a wonderful place.

The house and property were amazing. We had so much fun collecting eggs, playing corn hole, and enjoying the outdoor spaces. The house is very comfortable, clean, and well stocked.
Such a beautiful home in a great location. Thank you for sharing it with our family.

Thanks Mechelle,
It was so nice to host your group and great to see you all at the fit pit enjoying the property. We were glad to be part of your stay. See you next year!
This is a beautiful property, a beautiful house, and a wonderful place to spend time on Orcas Island. The house is a little gem in the woods. It overlooks the water (from a distance, but it's a beautiful view) and is part of a larger farm that includes chickens, goats, ducks, and an orchard. Overall, it is a very enchanting place, very peaceful, and extremely nice. The owners are kind and very easy to work with. We will definitely return.
Absolutely beautiful piece of property sitting on acres of land and lots to explore there. The chickens, goats and ducks are awesome. Fresh eggs every morning!! Jennifer and Chris are wonderful hosts who have thought of everything to make our stay amazing. The views from the deck are off the charts!! I am usually all about going out to dinner when on vacation but the deck table is so inviting with a well appointed kitchen that we ended up eating there most of the time. Great hiking is just minutes away, close to ferry and town. Easy to get anywhere on the island you want to go! Love this place and can't wait to return!

Thanks so much for all of the kind words. We love to see people love our property!
This was our second stay at Appel Haus, and while it was difficult to imagine having an even better time this visit than our last one. . . we absolutely did! The location is magical, the accommodations high end, and the kitchen was large and well-appointed so we could make some wonderful family meals together. We are crazy for their large wood-burning fireplace and having dinner on the deck overlooking the West Sound watching the sun go down. Extraordinary. Our hosts Jennifer and Chris (as well as the chickens and goats) could not have been more welcoming. Thank you again! Ann and Scott

Thank you for the kind words. We always love when we know our guests are using and enjoying the property! Come see us again soon :-)
This property provided a rich experience for a family gathering. We loved the opportunities to share the fun of gathering eggs, picking fresh vegetables, and then making a meal using them. The kitchen is outfitted with the finest appliances and equipment. There are plenty of dishes, glasses, and linens. We marveled at the woodworking throughout the house --- sturdy, honest and refined. There is a heartwarming fireplace with plenty of cut wood for late night adult conversations. The house is private providing a world of its own --- we loved seeing the little frogs and little birds in the manzanita trees, the nurse logs, the setting sun. Access to the water is easy, and we were fortunate to find orcas that came close to and under our boat!
We LOVED our stay here! The house was beautifully built and full of charm. It was clean and in a great location. The view on the porch in was great for sunset views and the property has so much to do. From collecting farm fresh eggs, to visiting the goats, and collecting some fresh veggies from the garden, our mornings were something to look forward to. The house has plenty of games, books, and kitchen supplies. We felt at home and didn’t want to leave. Communication with Jennifer, the owner, was a pleasure. It was one of our favorite trips!
Jennifer and her husband Chris are awesome. The property is just so beautiful. We went in the summer so Orcas is at its prime. It was my husband and 2 kids ages 8 and 10. They loved being able to see the goats and feed the chickens. Kitchen is well stocked to cook. Pots and pans are great. Sunsets are through the trees but did not make it any less gorgeous. Thanks again we will be back!
You can tell the owners are special people who have put love into this beautiful home. The amenities they provided were thoughtful and of the highest quality. My family and I had a wonderful time here.
Well, it's hard to describe. We just had the most amazing time at this beautiful property. The chickens and goats and Rosegarden and food garden were such a delight to visit daily. The chickens are prolific egg layers so do not buy eggs before coming to the island. The house was immaculate and very well appointed, Jennifer could not have been more hospitable and available even though she was in Europe at the time of our stay. Quiet, beautiful views and wonderful birds in the trees. Very healing. Town is a 10 minute drive away and Bucks Bay for seafood cannot be beaten. Just a pure delight to have been able to stay here. Thank you so much.
We have rented a number of homes over the years, Apfel Haus stands at the top of our happy experiences - a beautiful, comfortable home in an enchanted forest with an amazing water view and supported by generous and thoughtful hosts.
We enjoyed happy strolls through the property, opportunity to feed the delightful chickens in the morning and take the goats for an afternoon walk. The house feels far removed from life’s hustle and bustle yet it’s a short drive to Moran State Park for great hiking and to EastSound for great shopping, dining, and Saturday’s Farmer’s Market. It was hard for us to leave!
Where do I begin with the positives?! . . . The house is beautifully designed, beautifully appointed, and has everything we needed and more. The location is woodsy and private with stunning sunsets overlooking the Sound from the deck. We sat out there a lot. And even though we wanted to escape and enjoy the woods, the wifi worked really well, and we all needed to use it at one point or another. And I ask you, when was the last time you could stay on a beautiful island in a gorgeous house that had free-range chickens and goats on the property? We had fresh eggs daily, all of the animals were friendly. Jennifer and Chris were super welcoming and available for us if we needed them. Oh, and the hot tub!! Hot and soothing. We hope to go back again some day. Thank you!
Our stay at the Apfel Haus was absolutely, hands-down the best house we have ever rented. The setting was lovely and our 10 days there had me questioning my life choices as we left and wondering if I could somehow be adopted by Jennifer and Chris. Everything was as described - and we are cooks, so the kitchen suited us to perfection. We will be back to Orcas - and as long as they will allow us to return, we are staying at Apfel Haus.

Adoption is a delightful idea--you are welcome any time!
Fantastic home, comforts, owner communication and wildlife and farm animals. We would love to stay again in the future, everything about this place is just amazing.
We were a three generation family looking for a place appealing to all, and Slanted Apple knocked the ball out of the park. The house and barn were perfect for our group of 7, the views spectacular, the chickens, ducks, and goats endlessly entertaining, and the proximity to stunning hikes marvelous. Jennifer and Chris made us feel at home right from the beginning. Highly recommend!

Thanks so much Sally. It was a real pleasure to host your sweet family!
We highly recommend this home nestled in a forest above Westsound. It’s about five minutes from the ferry and less than 15 minutes from restaurants and shops. Our teenagers enjoyed harvesting fresh eggs, cooking in the gourmet kitchen, walking in the orchard and playing Wii and many board games. Thank you for a restful visit!
Our family stayed here for thanksgiving, and the place was perfect. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans and such- perfect for our thanksgiving feast. The place is cozy and delightful for puzzles, reading, and enjoying some time by the fire. Truly a lovely long weekend.
Jennifer and Chris are excellent hosts, attentive but not intrusive. Many relaxing outdoor spaces--porch with view, porch swing, hammock, fire pit--surrounded by madrone trees. Comfortable and pleasing indoor spaces with a well-appointed kitchen for cooking. Nearby farm offers a sweet garden with roses, dahlias, and vegetables for picking. Friendly chickens and ducks (fresh eggs!), majestic goats, and a lovely orchard to stroll through. The property is very quiet. Only the birds talking and the occasional muted blast of a ferry horn. Close to the village of Eastsound where most of the shops are open, and the restaurants also open for limited seating outdoors or take-out. Excellent grocery store! Restorative hiking on Turtleback Mountain. Wish I was going back this weekend!
