Mountain Joy Cottage #4, Butterfly, is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath cottage that sleeps 8. The cottage has an upper, lower and back deck to enjoy.

Originally the homestead of Maggie Setzer, for whom Maggie Valley was named, the land that Mountain Joy sits is a special place. You will become enchanted with its mountain charm, family atmosphere and character. We offer all the modern conveniences you would expect with the year-round access and seclusion that very few can offer.

Enjoy the peaceful country setting of our cottages. We have one, two, four and five bedroom cottages all equipped with wood burning fireplaces, cable TV, internet and kitchens ready to cook a home made meal. Outside the porches have rocking chairs so you can enjoy your morning coffee or enjoy the sunset on the mountains in the evening. Our glass enclosed outdoor pool (seasonal) offers a delightful place to relax.



Mountain Joy Cottages are centrally located in the heart of Maggie Valley just one block up Setzer Cove Road with easy access to all of the area attractions. We are just minutes off of the Scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area is loaded with craft, antique and gift shops. The great outdoors offers horseback riding, golf on area mountain courses, trout fishing in streams, white water rafting and scenic drives. Snow skiing and tubing is available for the entire family at Cataloochee Ski Area. Nightlife includes everything from Jazz to Bluegrass, clogging or dinner entertainment. Our cottages are just a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountain Railway, The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, Cherokee Indian Reservation and Harrah’s Casino and historic downtown Waynesville.

Whatever the season, Mountain Joy Cottages and the Great Smokies have something very special to offer. From the wildflowers of spring, to the blaze of colors in the fall or the serenity of winter, come visit and make lasting memories at Mountain Joy Cottages.

We sat on the comfy porch and watched the sunrise and to our surprise an ELK walked right in front of us, ate everything he could reach on the apple tree and sautered off to the pond and disappeared into the woods!

Looked like had not been cleaned from last fall. Had cabin been cleaned I would recommend it. Good location and nice surroundings.

We rented cabin 4 and took our grandchildren, my sister and her children, and my parents on vacation. This rental was ideal for this multi-generational vacation. The kids had plenty to do. We were able to take them all fishing. The cabin was beautiful and any issues that arose the people at Carolina Vacations was there immediately to fix them. From our cabin porch my grandchildren were able to see Elk, ducks, a crane, a rabbit and her baby. This was truly a dream come true. I see this being our vacation destination for many years to come.

The kitchen was very very dirty. I washed everything before we used it!The “fireplace “ was a portable heater in one of the bedrooms. Ceiling fans very dusty! Garbage left from past guests on porch and overflowing in garbage can outside cabin. Never picked up during our 6 day stay!Freezer had maybe melted ice cream in it and some black stuff. I didn’t know what that was. I would NOT recommend this to anyone!

Family fun

The house was nice and neat . A older home but full of charm . Clean and well stocked . The only thing I can say negative was the lack of parking. We had 4 motorcycle and the drive was to small to get all in and the house next door to get out .

Very misleading listing! Limited pictures for a reason!

This is a cabin in a village of other cabins right on top of you, it's not a private pool, it does not sleep 12, practically sleeps 9, could do 10. It was NOT clean on arrival and even when they came back out to clean it was not up to par. Very dusty, cobwebs, sheets had hair and dust on them, floor had spots and dust balls. Bring your own blankets, bottom floor was freezing despite heat. Upstairs furniture leaves a lot to be desired. Very misleading listing. Now I understand why there's no pictures of pool, outside of cabin, etc. And they're considering 1 bunk bed to be "2" because it has 2 mattresses, top and bottom. There's not actually 2 bunk beds. There's three queens in their own rooms and then a room with a bunk bed, and a twin bed with a trundle under but if you use the trundle everyone else in the room is trapped in their beds or has to walk on the trundle to get out.
