This was my second year staying here and it was again terrific! Great communication, easy access to water sports and tourist sites, everything needed for a low key vacation in northeastern Michigan. Looking forward to next year!
The cabin was clean, organized, and had everything we needed. Great location for fishing, kayaking, and watching boats. Host was very quick to respond. We hope to stay here again!
We enjoyed our recent stay at this cabin, especially the unique combination of both lake and river frontage. The lake was peaceful and beautiful – perfect for relaxing. Just be aware of the boats tend to pass fairly close to the shore due to shallow waters farther out. We enjoyed many kayak rides on both the river and the lake. The kitchen and bathroom were impressively well stocked, which made settling in easy. The cabin itself has a rustic feel, which adds to the charm, though somethings like the older carpet and lack of air conditioning are worth noting. We found we didn’t use the deck since it wasn’t accessible directly from the house. A welcome book or local guide would have been helpful to find nearby attractions, restaurants, and grocery stores. Overall, it’s a quiet, nature field getaway, best suited for those looking for a simple, back to basics retreat. Don’t forget your bug spray as northern Michigan is full of them in the summer!
We had a wonderful week with plenty of room for the 4 of us to spread out inside and out. Weather cooperated and lake was perfect to swim in. This was our second visit to this wonderful property. The house is well stocked with dishes/pots/pans, never have to bring anything extra. Plenty of towels and washer/dryer work better than mine at home. We love the new firepit!!! Very nice. Thank you for sharing your home with us!!
The location was definitely worth it, right on the lake. I loved having my morning coffee watching the sunrise.
The house is a little dated, but very cute decorations, very much a cottage feel. The only downside was the musty smell. It did bother my allergies quite a bit, but we weren't in the house a lot. Also, the cable TV had an issue and there were only about 10 channels that had a picture. You can fish right from the yard with was very nice. My husband caught and released a couple bass and pike. He was excited! I loved being able to kayak around the lake. Definitely a nice spot that I would recommend. We had a very nice and relaxing time.
We stayed at Crist Isle in August 2019 and had a great time! The location is fantastic - the lot is large and private, and because of its location on the island, there are water views from nearly all of the windows in the house. There was plenty of space inside and outside for visitors. We were very happy to have the kayaks, canoe, and fire pit for our use, and appreciated the sandy area the owners created when we had some visitors who brought beach toys with them. The wide shallow sandbar in the lake in front of the cottage was fun for our kids, and made swimming easy for them. The sunroom was, by far, our favorite room in the house! If we weren't outside or off on an adventure, we were usually in the sunroom, eating lunch or playing the games that were provided. It was great to have a washer and dryer on site- we didn't have to pack as many clothes, and were able to wash other items as needed. Would definitely consider staying here again!

Your own place of tranquility
We stayed the week of August 18-25 with our adult children, mother, and 19 month old grandson. I cannot say enough about this home. It is large enough to spread out, yet you can also get cozy all together in the sun room or fireplace room.
We chose this location because of the fishing on the lake. From the shore in front of the house, we caught perch, bluegill, pike and rock bass. My son in law caught a nice walleye just off the drop off.
We spent a day at the beach down near the UAW center and were virtually the only ones on the lake most of the time we were there.
The owners are easily accessible and checked in via email once or twice during the visit to be sure we had all that we needed. I would definitely recommend the Crist Isle house if you are looking for a nice, quiet vacation away from the masses.
Thank you, Brian and Jami for your hospitality.
Brian and Jami's home on Crist Isle exceeded our expectations. We stayed for a full week to enjoy up north fall colors. The home is in the perfect location to visit Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula. Our drives included visiting Tahquamenon Falls, two trips to Mackinaw City, two trips to the Petosky/Charlevoix area as well as a trip to the Rogers City area. The fall colors across the state were amazing. The Crist home is very comfortable and we had everything we could have possibly needed. It felt like we were staying on a houseboat because we were surrounded by the beautiful Black Lake and River. The view from each window is amazing. The home will comfortably accommodate 6 people and a pet. The king size bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable. Cannot vouch for the second bed or pull out couch as we didn't need them, but everything in the home was very nice so I'm sure they were good as well. We were very lucky to have a beautiful week and enjoyed spending time on the porch, in the yard and by the fire. The house was by far one of the cleanest rentals we have stayed in over the past 3 years. Due to Covid, we brought all of our own food so did not get to enjoy the nearby restaurants. We did however visit a few of the wineries. The area offers much within short distances. We would definitely consider coming back to visit Brian and Jami's home on Crist Isle again.
This was our fourth summer at this property and it was like coming home. Brian and Jamie are great hosts, easy to communicate with, and always has everything we need for a perfect get away. The place is always immaculate thanks to their wonderful housekeeper. We love black lake…it’s not a busy lake and just so peaceful and lovely. Looking forward to next summer already!
Nice, quiet getaway. We had beautiful weather. The accomodations were perfect. We had everything that we needed. Very friendly neighbor showed where to launch our pontoon and filled is in on places to eat. I would recommend this rental to anyone. Beautiful spot.
We enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very spacious and homey. The location felt quiet and private, just what we needed for our week. Unfortunately we had a week of alot of rain, but we tried our best to enjoy the area during the dry times. We tried to dock a 16 foot boat with an inboard motor along the seawall of the property, which worked but the perimeter of the lake is extremely shallow. I'd estimate knee deep at best for about 100 yards so it was very difficult to get the boat out into the deep part of the lake from this property. Be aware if you try to do the same. It would be much easier with a lighter boat with an outboard tiller. Amenities were solid. TV worked great and plenty of games and puzzles were available to help kill time during the rain. The kitchen was a typical experience for a cabin, serviceable but not perfect. The microwave worked, although some buttons were unresponsive. The grill worked well and we used it multiple times without issue. Parts of the cabin smelled a bit musty, maybe due in part to the wetter than average weather we had this year. A dehumidifier would be a good addition for the host to consider. There is a fish cleaning station outside which was nice to keep the mess out of the kitchen as well. Plenty of wood was available for a fire, the only thing we wish we had access to was an axe to split large pieces of wood. The lake was beautiful. We enjoyed using the kayaks and paddleboat that were made available by the host. We saw ducks and swans every day on the lake and even had the good fortune of seeing a sturgeon jump. The house is definitely family friendly and had no safety concerns for our 2 year old. Despite some of the minor issues, we had a great stay, the host was very responsive and accommodating so I'm still giving the cabin a 5-star review. My family would recommend this cabin to others.
Nice home on Black lake. We watched the swans and ducks everyday. We did all the puzzles and loved the books. Cozy and comfy with all the comforts of home. We loved the seclusion of the location, even though there are neighbors, who you never see or hear. This home reminded me of my Grandma's, in the best way!!!! So at home here. Our dogs loved it too. ❤ Thank you for letting us stay. Only thing to note, would be the damp smell on the sun porch.
My parents (age 84 and 80) along with my wife and I (both 59) had a wonderful relaxing time. My Dad and I did some fishing while my wife and Mom spent the days in the sun room doing crafts and watching the many heron's, ducks, swans, and other critters go by. The home is literally just a dozen steps or so from the water and the outdoor fire pit was a great blessing as we roasted dogs and did s'mores. The highlight of the trip was seeing a sturgeon surface the last full day while fishing less then 200 yards from the home. The home was clean and the owners were absolutely wonderful. The neighborhood was very quiet and relaxing.
Let me begin with that we already booked for next year. This home is comfortable and spacious, not fancy but we were not looking for fancy. The water and property are remarkable!! Extremely private, perfect for our dog! we will be back
We had a family of 4 (2 teens) and grandma with us. We had beautiful weather the entire week (humid a couple days but the house has an abundance of fans if you need them, never was too hot on the lake) and it was a wonderful space to spread out in. We had a fire each night in the fire pit overlooking the lake and my husband was able to catch his biggest fish right in the yard. We spent hours fishing and swimming. Nice boat launch up the road at the (now closed) Black Lake Marina. Our dog loved swimming out to the sandbar and playing fetch on it!! Such a clean and quiet lake!!
This was our third year at Christ Isle. I am not quick to rebook a property but didn’t ever hesitate on this one! The property is a gem. So spacious and private with great access for a boat and beautiful views. River is great for kayaking and lake is big, clear, and clean. Cottage is comfy and homey with everything u might need. Plenty of indoor space….picture doesn’t justify that. Owner is very gracious and quick to respond. Black Lake is not as crowded as many lakes we have visited in northern Michigan and we love the area. Will b back next summer!
The pictures on line don't really show how big the house is, there is plenty or room. Perfect location right on the water! It was peaceful and relaxing, we would love to come back.
Thanks for opening up your home to us!
