Cozy Little Cottage On The Lake


Cottage is fully furnished with dishware, linens, extra towels and blankets, even laundry detergent for the tiny washer and dryer. Stop at the store for groceries on your way in and you'll be all set to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. No WiFi/no cable TV. An opportunity to disconnect and enjoy the nature around you. No media to intrude on your solitude. There is a hotspot to connect to for streaming services if necessary. There are only a few houses on the lake and most residents just fish or paddle out on the lake to swim so it tends to be a very serene environment. Motor boats are allowed as are jet ski’s and traffic that goes by on the back country road behind the house can be very loud and fast at times. Not the horse and buggies though. It’s a nice mix of current and past lifestyles.

A cozy little cottage indeed!

A good get-away place even in the fall, with a beautiful view of the lake. We enjoyed relaxing inside and walking in the area. It is very quiet and peaceful - exactly what we needed to get away from work and city life.

Early Fall Rental

My wife and I along with my parents really enjoyed our stay for a long weekend! The lake was beautiful. The area is quiet and private. I also enjoyed morning jogs along the country roads/farms. We had a good time visiting the charming Amish town of Shipshewana that was nearby.

Relax and enjoy

We were a little disappointed in the smell and condition of the carpeting. There were a few other items that should have been “caught “ before we entered. I took care of the necessary things and we were so pleased for the rest of the stay. It does need some amenities, of which I left a note on the table. I do believe the cottage is a work in progress and it was very comfortable and cozy. I would stay again. Loved feeding the birds and watching the swans. The neighborhood geese in the yard are entertaining but messy. It listed as having internet and wifi but it was not available. Also no TV but after a couple of days I appreciated the quietness and being media free. It is a perfect spot for visiting in Kalamazoo and grandkids in Millersburg, with long time friends in the Middlebury and Shipshewana area. For us, it was a great spot for three weeks.

Where do I begin? Everything about this experience renting was hands down the best experience I’ve ever had from renting. From the professional and courteous communication with the property manager, to the picture perfect sunrises and sunsets. This was absolutely the perfect quaint house as it was described and I will forever remember this trip. I will be recommending to all of my family and friends. Absolutely 5 stars!!

Perfect for an extended stay in the area

Very friendly and responsive property manager. I enjoyed the peaceful lake and morning runs on the country road. The home was very clean and the kitchen had everything needed. I had a very comfortable stay.

Perfect Get Away!!!

My wife and I loved this cute cottage!!! We were here for our first time in October 2013 and loved it so much we were back 5 weeks later!! This place is exactly what we were looking for. This cottage is clean, cozy, modern and well maintained. The sunrise over the lake is breathtaking! It's the peace and quiet that brought us back. I love that at times you can here the clip-clop sound of a horse and carriage on the road. We enjoy the town of Shipshewana with all the shops and antiquing that is available. We would recommend eating at McGonigals Restaurant in Sturgis. They have delicious burgers and beverages. I already recommended this cottage to friends and family. We will definitely be coming back. We have nothing but nice things to say about the owner!! She is very attentive and will do anything to make your stay perfect!!

cottage sweet cottage

We had such a lovely stay at the cottage. It seems as though time slowed down and we were able to enjoy every moment. The sunrise over lake is the most amazing start to the day. The hammock is my favorite spot to curl up with a book. We were inspired by the newly appointed kitchen and ended up cooking all but one meal. We loved Shipshewanna and plan to come back to do more shopping and try other restraunts in this quaint little town. Looking forward to coming back for another long weekend of relaxation. We feel so at home at this cottage we are already planning our next trip.

Peaceful

This cottage is so cute and cozy.Had a wonderful time there with my family, sitting around the nice little fire pit on a cool fall day.The owners are amazing friendly people.I have stayed at several VRBO rentals and this place was by far stocked with so many items.Thanks again for a wonderful weekend.

Well, let me start by saying I love this place and the owner!! I was looking for a quiet place to get away with my girlfriend so that I could ask her to marry me!! I just wanted a nice place where we could be alone and enjoy eachother. We honestly couldnt believe how amazing the cottage was! It was so beautiful and quiet and exactly what we where looking for! It was so romantic and perfect!! We love this place and are going to be coming back for years! Not only did we love the cottage but we loved the owner! She is so amazing and easy to work with and so helpful! She really cared and wanted everything to be perfect for us and if I had to quess, she may be a bit of a romantic just like us!! I would recommend this cottage to anyone and we cant wait till our next trip! Thank you so much for everything you did for us, you are so appreciated!!

Great for Short, Quiet Getaway

My wife and I needed a place to getaway from the everyday hustle and bustle and came across this place. We are going to launch a church and wanted to pray and rest before the demands we knew we had to face. Although we slept a lot of the time, the place was great for our purpose. The decor was modern and newly remodeled. The setting was picturesque and we enjoyed a great time sitting by the lake. The only thing I would say is that it would be good to know what is being provided in the kitchen and we were prepared to grill (based on the wording in the description).

The peaceful week on the lake we needed!

We loved our week at the cottage this summer. It was the perfect, quiet, private place to reconnect. There was plenty of room for us and the kids. It was so so nice to spend quality time together without distractions. We used some of the games in the cabinet, the kids made bead necklaces and used the art supplies, we cooked together and played in the water every day. The kids loved the paddle boat and the fishing is great (especially in the inlet at the far right corner of the lake). Sturgis had a Walmart, Kroger, K-Mart and a cute little movie theatre. It took about 15 min. to run to town for food and a new bathing suit for our daughter. Town was far enough away that it felt like we were out in the country, especially at night with the bright stars shining through a dark dark sky...no noise or city lights to take away from the stillness of the night. We made family memories that will last forever. Hope we can come back next summer and enjoy this lovely little spot. It is very serene.

Great weekend Getaway!

We couldn't go on a honeymoon but still wanted to get away for the weekend. This little spot worked out great. We had fun relaxing and enjoying the little lake. We really enjoyed taking out the paddle boat and cruising around. The house is pretty nice and up to date. Our only complaint would be the smaller bed and lack of AC. Fortunately there are ceiling fans in every room and the temperatures were very comfortable. Shipshewana is only 15 minutes away and we had a great time spending the day visiting the area and coming back to the cottage to watch the sunset over the lake. It is a perfect cottage to just get away away for the weekend and relax. We would definitely consider going back again next year!

This was a year round home for many years but have now retired and moved out. Love the opportunity to share the cottage with others. Its an old place and needs to be used gently but its peaceful there and the lake is beautiful.

Why they chose this property

I grew up in the Chicago area and we always vacationed on small lakes in Michigan. It was a dream come true to have a little cottage on a lake of my own.

What makes this property unique

Quiet, serene, setting. Friendly neighbors. Close to Sturgis for anything you need anytime of day but still in the country enough to feel like a private getaway.
