About the host
Hosted by Laura Lee Potter
Hi! My name is Laura Lee Potter and I host Riverside along with my husband, John. We are from eastern NC, having grown up in Beaufort County, We lived for many years in neighboring Pitt County but returned "home" to be closer to family. We are proud parents to five wonderful grown children and even more proud grandparents to three of the most awesome kiddos around! In our spare time, we enjoy spending time on the river, fishing from the pier and just hanging out together.
Why they chose this property
This location is so beautiful. From the sunrises to the sunsets and having the privilege to see it everyday is amazing. Watching dolphins from our pier always captivates us. Being able to catch blue crabs and fish from the pier makes for the freshest seafood dinner one can imagine!
What makes this property unique
Riverside is a special gem! It was built in 1922 as a fishing cottage on the Pamlico. It changed owners over the years including being donated to the Methodist Children's Home at the request of the second owner. The family that purchased it from the Methodist Children's Home owned it until we purchased it. Our intention when we bought it was to renovate it up to modern use but re-use and restore what we could to maintain some of its original charm. Most of the wooden ceilings and walls are original to the house as well as most of the interior doors. What makes it stand out from the rest, in our opinion, are the views of the Pamlico River from any location in and around the house, especially from the large screened-in porch.
