Our family had the most wonderful time in this beautiful home. Everything was clean and well stocked. They thoughtfully provided everything a guest might need. The little town of Westfield was a surprise and a joy to us all. We visited the nearby wineries and made the trip into Erie. We really hope that someday we will be able to return to this restful and Idyllic haven.

Your family is always welcome to stay at Thonawata Bungalow (Westfield House)! Bob & Sheila
This is our third visit renting this property...perfect for our family of 7. We love the gorgeous grounds and large home with 3 beautiful porches, all with incredible views. It's closeness to wineries, ic e cream shop, and fresh produce stand, along with nearby towns is wonderful. Also, the house is well equipped with an amazing well-stocked kitchen and even a basket of s'more goodies for the evening bonfire. We also appreciated it's pet-friendliness! Thanks Bob and Sheila!! Fondly, The Schutte Family
This is a nice spot and clean and well maintained home. The kitchen has everything you need plus extras. Beautiful property and communication with the owners is great. Very family friendly. It is nice having 2 wineries/distilleries within walking distance. The beach in Barcelona is only 3.5 miles away and is definitely worth going to. There is shade as well as two little waterfalls for children to play in. One thing to note-the property says it is air conditioned, but only the 1st floor has central air. The upstairs they expect you to use numerous fans to draw the 1st floor air conditioning to the second floor. There is only one window unit for 3 bedrooms in the upstairs. The combination of all these fans and the air conditioner is incredibly loud making sleeping difficult for some.

As much as you understated the real unique amenities such as the boat house with hammocks, deck lounge, beautiful natural spring fed pond with two peddle boats, two amazing 20Ft natural waterfalls, nature path and maze, fire pit, and
Concord Grape vineyard, complimentary trikes for touring and shopping, Michelle overstated the efficacy of the more than ample A/C system.
The week Michell's group stayed at the property had a daily average temperature of 95- 105 degrees with daily brownout and local mandates to not use A/C.
WITH 38 WINDOWS ON THE FIRST FLOOR ALONE. TO TOP IT I FF SHE DIDN'T SEEM TO REMEMBER THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS DISCOUNTS THAT SHE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF WITHOUT A SIMPLE POSITIVE WORD. WE WOULD NOT RENT TO HER AGAIN.

Spent a beautiful weekend at the property for a family summer weekend we do every year. This property was exceptionally beautiful and exceeded our expectations. Would highly recommend staying at this property!
We really enjoyed our time at the Westfield House. The house was large enough that our family of 10 had room to spread out and enjoy ourselves. Bob was a great host, very knowledgeable about the area and offered us great ideas of fun things to do and see.
The property is beautiful. A wonderful place to relax after a busy day taking in all the fun things to do around the area. The boat house, deck and fire pit were a great way to end the days. Would highly recommend this place. A winery across the street and The Farmers Daughter ice cream store within walking distance is a win-win way to enjoy the evening!

Beautiful and historic home, lovely property with a pond and boat house. Perfect place to play croquet in the yard and dine outdoors on deck. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal for a group with plenty of seating. Perfect location for getting to beaches to look for sea glass or visiting wineries. Loved crossing the street to go to Johnson’s Winery.
Really neat place to stay! The outside spaces were beautiful and relaxing and the kids enjoyed boat rides on the pond. The home was clean and kitchen and bathrooms were well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We also enjoyed the exquisite artwork though out the house.

Harvest time in the early fall is one of the best times to visit The Westfield House and grounds! The smell of vine ripened grapes surrounds you and the fruit trees are hanging low with the weight of the bounty of pears, plumbs, apples, all ready to pick here on the grounds of the Westfield House!
Book early for next year! Most summer dates are sold out after March. It is a rare and wonderful memory of your visit to the heart of Chautauqua Wine Country...

Thank you for the very kind 5 Star Review... Although we strive to create positive guest experiences, it is nice to learn the various nuances of your stay..... The combination of indoor and outdoor activities is exactly the model that we strive to achieve during your stay at The Westfield House...
Rain or shine... The Westfield House is not just a place to stay, rather...IT IS A MEMORABLE DESTINATION FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY... WINTER, SPRING, SUMMER, & FALL!
You and your family are always welcome to share our home, The Westfield House!

We enjoyed our stay at the Westfield. The property and home are beautiful. The kitchen was stocked with all needed items. Beds were comfortable. Our stay was too short and we are looking forward to returning in the future. I highly recommend this house and with its close proximity to wineries it would be a great destination for a girls trip
Great stay. The house has a ton of charm and warmth. It was a very spacious place that was a nice place to relax. One thing that we found fantastic was that it was filled with the little extras that you need when away from home but not normally there. There were extras such a zip loc bags, scissors, extra garbage bags, etc. I know that sounds like a little thing, but these are not normal in a lot of VRBOs and this was so nice to have.
This is the second year we stayed here because we love everything about the house and location. The bedroom situation is perfect for the 5 adults and 2 children. The kitchen has everything you would need to cook. We spent a lot off time near the pond and waterfalls. Many places to read or play games with the kids.A great spot.

Allan's family is the perfect match for the Historic Westfield House & Grounds Experience. We are a place where friends and family members can kick-back, relax, take a deep breath of fresh country air and peddle around Turtle Pond, enjoy high tea on the stone patio above the water falls, and at night light a campfire at our popular Stumps Fire-Pit where you can roast hotdogs and marsh mellows on a stick, make s-mores and share stories and sing-alongs of your favorite camp songs.
Sound corny? YOU BET! Many guests even wonder off to Barcelona Harbor & Beaches which is a refreshing fifteen minute walk down Walker's country road.... while others may decide to take a short forty-five minute drive to Niagara Falls, or visit the Casinos at one of the nearby Indian Reservations, and the Lucy & Desi/Comedy Museum, Chautauqua Institution or a thousand other destinations for antiques, wineries, farm markets and fruit stands, Amish quilts, furniture, and other hand crafted items. But, don't tell anybody, it is our secret place in God's Country... Chautauqua County New York!
See You There Again Next Year!
Always Our Best

Central location
Central hub for many locations, such as Niagara Falls, Lake Erie, Chautauqua Lake. Best restaurant in Westfield is Calarcos Italian. Another good restaurant is Pine Junction in Sherman. Must visit Dunkirk lighthouse!

If you and your family stayed at the Westfield House searching for the perfect eco-friendly blank walled echo chamber as seen on the Home and Garden channel, you would probably be disappointed with the collections of original 19th century oil paintings, or the hand crafted furnishings by Stickley, Limbert, and other notable designers of the 19th century...Sheila and Bob created the Westfield House as a retreat for those busy people who are searching for memorable experiences on friendly soil... We hope that the next time you visit he Westfield House you will take time to experience our waterfalls, turtle pond peddle boat rides, boat house relaxation, tea above the falls, a walking tour of the property via a labyrinth of sculpted greenery and flowers .. .a destination in its own right not just a bed and quick breakfast a Home Away while in Western New York... You are welcome any time!

We loved everything about the Westfield House. The kitchen and bathrooms were so well stocked. All the art in the house was amazing. Both the house and the grounds are absolutely gorgeous. We enjoyed all of the different spaces, both inside and out.

We had a great stay at this property, very clean and a lot of history to this place. Has a Frank Lloyd Wright feel with a lot of art and antiques. Kitchen is modern and awesome. One wish would be for n more comfortable furniture in the sitting/living room (and maybe a large TV) but we made do in the ample bedrooms. Loved the bar area. We hope to be back!
The house was spotless. Comfortable and very roomy. The property was incredible. My only complaint would be that there was no cupboard space to put things that I brought which technically isn’t a bad thing because they had a ton of supplies!! Highly recommend!

Linda...Thank you for the glowing Five Star Review.... and your comment about the "Spotless" condition of the house. However, what we found even more amazing is the fact that the house was equally spotless when you and your family left after a week long stay...I.E. our cleaning service had to check the bedrooms to make sure that your family even stayed there.
Double thanks for respecting the house during your stay and leaving it spotless!
Also, thank you for the heads-up on the kitchen cabinet storage issue... It was an oversight for us to underestimate the need for more guest food storage space when they stay for a week or more at a time... To that end, we are re-arranging the cabinets in time for our next guests...A great call!
Linda, since we don't want to share you... we would like to recommend that you reserve next year's stay "now" so you don't forget the wonderful time that you and your family had at The Westfield House in the summer of 2019...

About the host
Your host
Sheila and Bob are two retired advertising/marketing professionals who escaped the congestion and stresses of the City to experience the comforts of country living on the shores of Lake Erie Wine Country.
The Westfield House" is just two hours north of their current Pittsburgh residence but, it is worlds away from the everyday stressors of city living.
After your visit you will never want to leave!
Why they chose this property
FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT CONNECTION... The Westfield House (Thonawada Prairie Bungalow) is a century old Prairie Bungalow farm house that was built by O.S. Lang for Buffalo Banker Edgar Taylor and his wife Margaret. In 1909 O. S. Lang had just finished Collaborating with Frank Lloyd Wright on the building of several notable Buffalo N.Y. residences including... the highly acclaimed, Darwin Martin House, The Gardeners Cottage, The Davidson House, and the Heath House when he accepted the offer from Westfield New York residents Charles Welch (juice & Jellies) and Edger Taylor, to move to Western New York to design and build their private residences including "The Chedwel Compound" for Welch and "The Thonawada Bungalow" for Taylor...
The plans were drawn-up by O.S. Lang in a sleek Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie Bungalow style with a low pitch roof and a ribbon of 38 windows surrounding the first floor's cedar shake covered exterior.
As time and fortunes past, Thonawada Bungalow fell into disrepair and was eventually rescued in 2007 by Bob & Sheila who decided not to remodel the home, but rather, restore it back to its original intended country elegance....The House and seven acres of vineyards and artfully landscaped grounds and water features are now available, year round for you and your family and friends to enjoy for a couple days, weeks, or even a month.
What makes this property unique
LIFE IN THE SLOW LANE! It is our pleasure to share the healing powers that are realized in small towns, simple pleasures, and the satisfaction of planting a seed and watching it grow to maturity...Welcome to "The Westfield House"
Visitors to The Westfield House" are invited to walk the scenic paths around Turtle Pond, through the two waterfalls, and relax along the way at the stone Patio, above the falls, with a glass of regional wine then hang-out in the hammocks at the Pond House.
After your short rest, continue through the century old vineyard once owned by the Mogen David Wine Company (Today one of the largest wine producers in the world)...Along your way, you will also pass through our fledgling orchard. Combined, you will pick sweet Concord Grapes, apples, pears, cherries, plums, peaches, crab apples, Hickory Nuts, and Butter Nuts… ENJOY Life in the Slow Lane!
After consuming your fill of fresh fruit and nuts, you will venture into our Walking Circles, the largest of which takes you nowhere after a fifteen minute walk from the outer ring and into the center... If you still have some energy left over, we find that many guests pick-up the pace and retrace their steps out of the circle at a more lively pace...I believe the record is about 1 minute to the finish line and the beginning of a new path through Harry's Grove....Named after the woodsman who groomed all of the trees and shrubs on the property a decade ago)
