About the host

Hosted by Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg

Host profile image
Dr. Joy and her husband, Matt have lived in the Black Hills since 1999. Joy is originally from a ranch south of Custer. In 2013, they purchased the Little Red Inn and opened it for use as a vacation home the following year. They live down the road from the Inn next to Custer State Park with their family and enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Black Hills. Joy works at the local clinic. They know the area well and can help answer any questions. Joy travels extensively and stays in short term rentals. She understands that hat makes stays comfortable, unique and memorable.

Why they chose this property

We live just down the road from the Little Red Inn. It is in a beautiful location and is close enough to both Custer and Custer State Park to be the perfect spot for people who are visiting the Hills. There is a nice creek running thru the pasture and Joy runs her cattle there occasionally . The granite outcroppings east of Custer and Calamity Peak are just across the road from the Little Red Inn. Hiking and mountain biking surround the Red Inn. At night it is quiet. There is a large, green space to play and explore and a firepit for the evenings. Calamity Peak is one of the most photographed granite peaks in the Hills and it is right across the road.
It is fantastic in any season. The snow falling on the granite outcroppings is incredibly beautiful and the green grass and quietness of the Hills are soothing.
I love the two areas of the house where adults can sit and visit but kids could watch TV at night in the lower level. I like to be able to visit with my family when I travel and put kids to bed if need be. Also, kids need a space to run and play. This offers a safe place for them to play and enjoy the outdoors. It’s nice to be able to do laundry and stretch out on the deck after a day of sight seeing.

What makes this property unique

A true Black Hills Experience. Enjoy the night air around the firepit. During the day, go see the sights.
