All the necessary local shops and amenities are close to hand including good-sized local supermarket. Several local restaurants with good food at reasonable prices are within easy walking distance. The scenic paths and cycle ways provide great opportunities to explore the local area. There are numerous white sandy beaches on the lakeside sheltered by pine trees and with safe warm bathing in clean fresh water. Water sports and activities are available locally including canoeing, boating, water skiing, windsurfing and fishing. There are several sailing clubs with instruction available. There is something for everyone from shops and theatre to harbour-front, magnificent Gothic cathedral and beautiful architecture. The old quarter featuring narrow streets and medieval gateways houses the local artisans' shops.
There is also much to explore in the beautiful areas surrounding Bordeaux including the fantastic historic hilltop village of St Emillion. The world famous vineyards and châteaux of Bordeaux are in abundance in the region and many offer tasting and tours and welcome you to stop and buy direct.
A visit across the border to Spain is about 90 minutes drive by car and makes a popular day trip.
