2 months of bliss

My wife and I rented this beach bungalow for 2 months. We were at the edge of the beach, but with privacy and a view that simply couldn't be beaten. Sunsets were the best we've ever seen on a regular basis, and the Gastel's are now likely to be friends forever. To put it simply, we had a great time.

One of the best kept secret beaches in Rhode Island

From waking with the sun rise to saying goodbye to the sun in the evening this beach and cottage is everything any beach lover can ask for. My family and I have stayed in this cottage for the past 4 Augusts and we love it. Easily sleeps 8 people. The addition of the outdoor shower is a welcome improvement. The private beach is never crowded and the neighbors are wonderful. Jonathan and Susan are wonderful, generous people to rent from and truly care about their cottage and renters. The kitchen has everything you will ever need to make that fresh steamed lobster dinner you are planning. There are at least 8 great restaurants within a 2 mile radius of the beach. A trip to Crazy Burger in Old Town Narragansett is a must for breakfast. If you are looking for entertainment you are 20 minutes from Mystic Aquarium, the Connecticut casinos, or Newport and Providence Rhode Island. This is truly my family’s home away from home. Thank you Susan and Jonathan for all you did for us this year and we can’t wait to see you again next year. Suzi

Dear Suzy, Thank you for your warm and kind comments. It is a joy having you in our home. You are one of the most responsible and respectable renters we have had the honor to know...you treat our home like it is your own. Thank you for appreciating our effort and thank you for introducing us to the world of homemade granola! Our Love to Mary! See you next summer!

Disappointed

Before you rent this property, be sure you understand how small 550 sq. ft. Is. The second bedroom (which also houses the laundry) is more a hallway between the kitchen and the sitting area. The kitchen has no cupboards or shelves to hold food, so we wound up using the mantelpiece and the kitchen table. This was awkward, since (at 2ft. by 5ft.) the table is the only surface nearly large enough to play board games or work crossword puzzles. There are views of the water from each room, but from the deck you look straight at the garbage dumpster for the neighborhood, and the windows on the other side look directly at the port-a-potties for the public beach. It appears that fewer than half the pictures included in the listing were taken from the property itself. The owner is gracious and the decor is pleasant, but it took us half a day to get TV service, and 2 days to get internet, which was weak and spotty at best. We never understood why a such a large security deposit was required, and after 2 weeks, it still has not been returned.
Response from VrboOwner on 26 Mar, 2020
Elizabeth, we have never received a review like this in all the years we have rented our house. Most renters come back year after year and one former renter even purchased the house right next door. We provide photos of our house and also of the surrounding beach areas (e.g. the beach that is 75 feet away and the nearby Block Island ferry) so potential guests get an accurate sense of where they will be vacationing. Larger homes in the area rent for $15,000-$20,000 per month and generally don't have the direct access to a sandy swimming beach as ours does. The neighborhood does have a fenced-in dumpster, but fortunately, it does not impact the incredible 270 degree views of the ocean, the Point Judith Lighthouse, and Block Island in any significant way according to visitors and past guests. And by early June, the natural growth of the beach roses and tall dune grasses blocks the distant view of the roofs of the temporary outhouses at the neighboring beach (not our private beach). This house has a beautiful open kitchen design just like we do in our own custom home next door; white wooden open-style shelving as shown in the advertised photos. The kitchen's 5' custom-made poured concrete table is a lovely place for meals and the mobile desk in the living room is perfect for board games. The large patio table is also a great asset for outdoor meals and activities. Our new washer and dryer are located in an enclosed closet in the guest room--which is a quite typical location for a small beach cottage--and is well-appreciated by the guests for its convenience. The internet provider has upgraded some hardware so that technical problem has been addressed. VRBO is in charge of all financial transactions between owner and renter, including returning deposits. In fact, 100% of all security deposits from our property have been returned. We feel blessed to live in this gorgeous slice of heaven! I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and let's hope the weather stays nice and sunny.

Great place for young families.

The cottage is in a lovely gated community right on the beach. One of the amenities of the cottage was air conditioning. It only had one air conditioner on the floor of one of the bedrooms which was in the way of getting into bed. My husband has COPD so unfortunately we could not stay there. Our 3 adult children and their friends enjoyed the place. They did a lot of swimming, fishing off the jetty and kayaking. And we enjoyed spending many days there. The owners were very nice and accommodating. They did install a new window air conditioner in the bedroom the second week.

It was so nice meeting all of your lovely children during your month rental. The temperature in Narragansett, Rhode Island was "the hottest August on record" according to the Providence Journal, so I understand why the beach was not the perfect place for someone with COPD . We were happy to accommodate your family!

A True Paradise

My wife and I stayed at Susan and Jonathan's lovely little beach house in September. The beach house is located in a beautiful little gated community. Many of the houses are close together but this gem was located at the end right next to the beach so we had total privacy! The walk to the beach was less than a minute and you have an ocean view right from the deck. The lighthouse is close nearby and there is a gorgeous overlook to watch the sunrise/sunset from. The house itself was well-equipped with the necessities (bring your own beach towels but that's no biggie) and very cute. We had a couple of friends stay with us one night during our stay and there was more than enough sleeping space between the bedroom, twin, and pullout futon. Susan was extremely accommodating, always making sure to check in to see if we needed anything while at the same time providing us with our privacy. It really was a great escape and truly a little piece of paradise!

Perfect location. The house made a cozy home for us while we were in town. Our family loved it. Kids spent every second they could taking walks along the shore & exploring the area. Definitely will be back!

Cozy Cottage

So close to the private beach and lighthouse. 180 degrees ocean view is no exaggeration! Such beautiful sun rises and sun sets. Owners are very easy to get in touch and communicate with. We really enjoyed our stay (even in October)!

Perfect Cozy Beach Get-Away

The view doesn't get any better than this when you wake up in the morning! This cozy cottage was perfect for my family of five. We enjoyed a beautiful beach and views, outside barbeques, boiled lobsters, and daily walks for ice cream. It was a tremendously relaxing and fun week. I look forward to our return!

Thank you Nancy, and we look forward to seeing your family again! We are excited for you to use our new outdoor shower! It is huge with a dressing area and will help keep sand out of the house. While showering we have views of the ocean and sunsets. Amazing addition to the house!
