Good for the soul

Words can not describe the wonderful experience we had at Deerwander cottage. So peaceful listening to the surf renewing the soul and walking on the beach

Rustic comfy beach house

Charming, old-fashioned Maine beach house. The only (small) criticism was the dog fur on the blankets and bed pillows...but that is perhaps to be expected in a dog-friendly rental. Outstanding experience—worth the price for the screened porch and semi-private beach proximity. Great waves.

An idyllic location.

We were amazed at the view around the house, with its porches and veranda. We found the kitchen to be very well equipped with modern appliances and everything needed to prepare meals for a group. The living troom was equipped with the latest in streaming TV technology. Contrary to what we were told, all rooms were equipped with linen and towels. We could have saved carrying some luggage if we had known about this. The furniture in some rooms would need refreshing. All in all, we had a wonderful time in that house,close to the beach, with great views of the beach and right next to a pond. The weather was also fantastic for al but a few hours of our stay..

Great location

Diane was very friendly and easily reachable. She stopped by once we arrived to great us. The property states that it is 1.5 bathroom and 4 bedrooms. I did not see anywhere is the description that the half bathroom is actually outside with no sink with the toilet. It was clean but still odd to have to go out of the house to use. The 4th bedroom (twin) was located through another bedroom, so if you slept in the back room and had to get up in the middle of the night - you would have walk through a bedroom while someone is sleeping. The property is a typical Maine cottage. Some updating could make it even more homey but the property is nicely located right across the street from the beach and viewable from many spots in the house. Another suggestion would be a house/area guide. Where to find the wifi password, how to use the heater, where to eat in the area, etc.

2 great weeks at Fortunes Rocks

From arrival to departure, our experience at Diane’s and Dave’s beach home was terrific. The beautiful setting, next to a pond and across a small street from the wonderful beach at Fortunes Rocks, was enhanced by our hosts’ providing us with all that we needed to enjoy a restful and relaxing Maine vacation. A well equipped kitchen with extra refrigerators, cooking equipment for preparing meals at the stove indoors or on the backyard gas grille, pots, plates and utensils for a lobster/steamers boil, an enclosed sun porch for dining, a beautiful chair covered front porch from which to enjoy the sights and sounds of both the nearby ocean and pond as well as frequent visits from the hummingbirds who came to feed, large back and front yards with a fire pit’s wood burning fire to enjoy as the temperatures dropped in the late August evenings, all served to make for a tremendous holiday to close out the summer. Detailed instructions about accessing wi-fi, trash pickup, and other elements important to know for our stay were provided. The care and attention that Diane and Dave clearly put into preparing their home to welcome us as guests was very apparent and deeply appreciated. Thank you so much and it would be our pleasure to return next summer and beyond!

What a lovely spot

We had such a nice time at this lovely property. Diane responded to every question and took care of our needs and was the perfect host. The views are second to none and we loved sitting on the porch soaking it all in.

Great time in Biddeford!

We had a great time at Diane’s place! The proximity to the beach and views of the ocean and the pond can’t be beat! The house is cozy but still had everything we needed. We’ll be back!

Wonderful location

Home owner is super sweet. The kitchen was missing a lobster pot bun I believe she was going to purchase one. The only double bed was very outdated and uncomfortable but the property and location made up for that. My dog was welcome and my whole family enjoyed it very much! We hope to return next year!

Great cottage very close to the beach

Great late summer getaway!

We had a great time at this property and the proximity to the beach is excellent! The views of the beach from the porch are amazing!! If you love the beach and you like to stay at a property that feels like a true ‘Maine Camp,’ this is the place for you.

Quaint and Convenient

The house was very quaint and comfortable. We found it more than adequate for our use and loved the proximity to the beach and to the UNE campus as we were there for graduation weekend. Bedrooms are small, but since most of our time was spent outside or touring around, we were fine with that. Kitchen could have some more cooking convenience to it, as there are few pans, but we managed. More information could be provided about the heating sources and which heating controls are set up, as it was a bit chilly while we were there. We enjoyed our time and Fortune's Rock Beach is only a few steps away--very convenient!

We enjoyed a wonderful week staying here. Charming house was very clean, even the windows! Even though it is not situated on the ocean, it still had an ocean view and being located on a pond gave it an added dimension. The covered and enclosed porches are nice features. The short walk to the beach, the private setting and very nice owners gave us an overall wonderful experience!

My husband and I have summered on Fortunes Rocks Beach since 1970. We fell in love with this classic Maine cottage and it was the perfect spot to vacation with our daughters. We have spent hours on this family-friendly beach: looking for sea shells, playing in the waves, and building sand castles. Now they look forward to returning to this special place ever summer with their children - more and more appreciative of the beauty of Fortunes Rocks.

Why they chose this property

Nice big yard, ample off street parking and spacious layout for guests and entertaining. The cottage is in a convenient location, just steps from the best beach in Maine, and offers a comfortable, classic decor. It's fully equipped with two TVs, complimentary cable and wifi, but it's also a spot to get away from the hustle and bustle. It's classic; it's comfortable, and it's very Maine - 'the way life should be.'
