We had a wonderful week at this beautiful property! The check in process was simple. It had all of the amenities you could need and more. Enjoyed our morning coffee on the cozy screened in porch. Nice sand beach area, great fishing, relaxing dock to watch the eagles and loons. Highly recommend a stay at Big Pine!
Beautiful home. With plenty of space for family to spread out. It had everything we needed for our stay. The boat dock was great and easy access to park our pontoon. Great communication from owners made arrival and check in easy.
This is a lovely spot on Shish. We are very familiar with the lake and have rented several properties. This one is a favorite! Wonderful, sandy waterfront, private yard, quiet and protected part of the lake and view of the island. Great stay... can't wait to return!
Beautiful property with a great view. Its better than advertised. Owners have done a wonderful job. Very comfortable and the owners have thought of everything.
If you are looking for a clean, non hassle, everything you need at a VRBO place in Minoqua this is the place. We had wildlife to view daily, quiet off the road parking, clean and comfortable linen/bedding, our 2 year old grandson had plenty of driveway to run and collect acorns, the flowers and grounds were well maintained. We truly enjoyed our stay and will be back. The owners are so nice and accomodating we hated to leave. Nadine / Bryce
All the comforts of home in a beautiful log cabin setting. Large lake with sandbars and endless eagles! Pier and frontage ideal for fishing and swimming. Pam was always available if we had any questions. The screen porch was our favorite spot each day!
The owners provided too notch customer service and the cabin was perfect. The lake location was also ideal for swimming and fishing. We fished all around the island right across from the cabin and caught crappie, bass, perch, rock bass, etc. There is also a rope swing on the island where the kids swam and played while we fished off the boat around the corner of the island. We will definitely be back!
I stayed at the house for week with my husband, my two kids, and my sister. We loved the location because it was the perfect balance of time in nature (getting away from it all) and also proximity to stores and activities. We did the animal park and the zip lines and had a great time.
Pam was a fantastic host - very responsive to questions and very helpful in helping us figuring out the details of the property. The home was well appointed with all the details taken care of, very clean, and exactly as represented in the listing. Thank you!

Pure Relaxation
We have been vacationing in the Northwoods for years and years. We've always looked for the perfect cabin on a lake and we finally found it this summer at Big Pine. The pictures and reviews were 100% accurate. This place really is as amazing as it looks. The cabin was gorgeous and the extra attention to detail in the decor, amenities, and landscaping made it even more special. Most importantly, it provided a perfect location for a relaxing getaway. The owners were very hospitable and made planning easy. We started thinking about a return trip the moment we left.

We are glad that you enjoyed your time at Big Pine and many thanks for leaving the cabin in wonderful condition. We encourage our returning guests to reserve their time for next year now, as we open up our 2017 reservations to new guests after September 1st. We would love to have you back!

Big Pine is as perfect a North Woods experience you can have. Beautiful log cabin perfectly furnished with every convenience. Clearly written instructions how everything works (never seen better.) Squeaky clean and orderly from stem to stern. Perfectly located for shopping and dining in the quaint towns in this part of lake country. And then there is owner/host Pam. She is the very best. Responsive, helpful, caring. A total delight. Thank you!,
This property is beautiful and as advertised and had everything we could want for our vacation. Our stay at Big Pine was wonderful and I really wish we had more time to enjoy the lake and the area and the canoe and kayaks at the property. We brought our boat and were able to go fishing as well as do some tubing with the kids. We caught numerous bluegill, perch, largemouth and smallmouth bass. I would like to return to learn the lake and fish locations better. The receptacle near the dock was great for conveniently charging the boat overnight. The cabin was very comfortable and clean with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy time together and time apart. Pam and Bruce were very helpful and responsive before, during, and after our trip and were a joy to talk to.
This is a beautiful, well-appointed log home. Very comfortable, and lots of interesting features and attention to detail wherever you look. Shish lake is a great lake for fishing and boating. We rented a pontoon boat and had it delivered via the boat launch on adjoining Gunlock lake. Worked out great. We also made use of the row boat (I brought a trolling motor) for fishing, and my kids loved the canoe and kayaks. Nice to be so close to town as well - maybe 10 minutes away. we ran in quite often for dinner, drinks and shopping. Pam, the homeowner, was great - very communicative and super helpful. She spent 20 minutes on the phone with me giving tips on how to fish the lake. I'd definitely go back.

We are so happy your family enjoyed your first visit to Big Pine and visiting the Minocqua area. We communicate frequently with our guests to make all their needs are met and to share our knowledge of the lake and the surrounding area. We were glad that you were able to enjoy the lake in so many different ways.
We try to improve the cabin every year for our guests. This year we completely renovated two of our bathrooms and last year we put in air conditioning which has been an important improvement for our guests on those hot and steamy days.
We look forward to your return.
Best,
Pam and Bruce

Excellent location but needs TLC
Excellent location on lake! Loved the screened in porch! Received 6 additional documents regarding house rules well beyond the cancellation date. Documents within the cabin disclosed house could not be guaranteed sanitized. Bars of soap were used throughout cabin. Bowls holding soap were dirty. Soap pump bottles were nearly empty. Screws were sticking out of door upstairs upon arrival. Oven smoked when we first preheated. Owner responded quickly and advised to clean oven (?). Coffee pot was full of coffee grind. Water damage/Mold (?) noted to ceiling in basement bathroom.

Dear Big Pine Guest:
Thank you for your comments and feedback. In the over six years that we have owned Big Pine, this is the first and only sub-5-star review we’ve ever received and we are very sorry to hear about your experience. These are certainly not the memories we want our guests to have of Big Pine. As such, we feel we should respond. We hope this wasn’t inspired about by the discussion we had with you regarding the damage reported by the cleaners during your stay (which had no impact upon the return of your entire security deposit).
We recently changed and upgraded our cleaning service to meet the challenging cleaning demands of these times and we are dismayed that you thought they did not achieve our rigorous cleanliness standards. This is surprising since the cleaners said you left them a note stating how nice the house looked on arrival and graciously left them a tip. They are cleaning to Oneida County COVID cleaning protocol in an effort to sanitize the cabin but there are many factors that make it impossible to guarantee. It is for this reason that we encourage our guests to be proactive in doing their own sanitizing during their stay and take every precaution to ensure their health and safety.
We check in with every guest upon arrival to make sure there are no issues with the home. We had contact via email upon check in and you expressed there were no issues so we were surprised to hear about them for the first time in your review. If we knew about them at the time of check in or any time during your stay, we would have sent the cleaners to the cabin immediately to rectify your concerns. Regarding the oven, sometimes prior guests have a spill in the oven that wasn’t detected by the cleaners. When you told us about the smoke, we suggested using the self-cleaning setting to help deal with any residue that might have caused the smoke. You told us that this did resolve the issue.
Thanks for letting us know about the bathroom ceiling. You are the first to notice that issue and we will investigate it.
Our house rules, are listed fully in the rental contract which must be accepted per VRBO rules upon booking. We additionally sent out to you and all guests additional information a couple of weeks prior to our guest’s stay with all the house information (since we no longer keep a binder due to COVID) and instructions for check out. We ask the guests if they have questions or concerns and you had none. I am not sure what, in those materials, you would have found problematic but it would have been nice to know about that at that time so we could address your concerns. We also send fishing information, dog owner information and pre-visit house information so you know what we supply and what you should bring. You are the first guest to find all this information and its timing problematic.
Lastly, again thank you for your feedback. We will make every effort to address your comments so we can continue to make Big Pine a charming log home on a beautiful lake.

We had a great week at Big Pine! The home and property is very well maintained and has all of the amenities you could possibly need. We especially loved listening to loons from the screened in porch as well as enjoying the lake from the dock chairs. Shishebogama Lake is great for fishing, boating, and loon & eagle watching. The location is excellent; close to Minocqua and surrounding areas, yet far enough to enjoy the Northwoods peace and quiet. Communication with the owners was first rate and Pam was very responsive to any questions we had. We highly recommend this property!
If quaint and relaxing is what you are looking for, this is the place. There is enough space for everyone to either gather or do there own thing. Either way you can do as much or as little as you prefer. The screened in porch was where we spent most of our "inside" time. Communication was great. Amenities were spot on and there were no issues. There is about 8 feet of sandy shore line that allows easy access to get into the water to swim. This was very nice as not everyone on this side of the lake has such access. My son set a new personal record for his largest small mouth bass yet at 19 inches. So, he was very pleased!
Great property! Very clean with plenty of room for our family vacation of 5. Great views of the lake and campfire area. Plenty of wildlife from bald eagles to otters. Even had a musky on right from the dock. The boat launch on gunlock lake was ok for a 20 ft pontoon but wouldn’t want to launch anything much bigger than that there. Also the channel was pretty small and shallow but got through ok. Great place to stay, and the lake was very nice. Clear water with good fishing catching blue gills, bass and perch.
We had a great time during our week at Big Pine. The house is very nice, well decorated and supplied with most everything we needed. The kitchen pantry was especially welcome to store many of our supplies and food. The beds were very comfortable. The area is very well landscaped and taken care of. The communication with the owners, Bruce and Pam, was very good all the way from reservation to checking in during our stay. Although we lost power due to a storm early in the week, Pam was very attentive, trying to work with WPS to get our service back and checked in on us often. There were extra lanterns to help us get around the house in the dark. Other than the weekend boat traffic on the lake, it was relatively quiet during the week. We would certainly stay at Big Pine again.
A beautiful property! My children loved swimming off the dock and my husband and I loved the kayak. Close enough to town to enjoy everything it has to offer, yet far enough away for a lot of peace and quiet! Our family made wonderful memories!
After several weeks of reviewing properties for the perfect honeymoon getaway, we chose Big Pine. The cabin is quaint, private, and met all of our expectations. Fishing off the dock delivered and would be awesome for kids to catch a lot of fish and learn how to fish for blue gills and perch. It delivered over and over again. Chairs on the dock were great for the adults. Whatever you are looking for, fishing, grilling, exercise(stairs), screened in porch overlooking the lake (bug free), fully equipped kitchen, and comfortable beds, Big Pine is the place!
