Well-maintained, nicely-furnished and clean property that could benefit from some updating. Adrian was right on top of things with a minor problem and exhibited genuine concern for his guests. Only downsides are proximity to highway and long walk down to lake (if you are a senior or have a disability). Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.
We just spent a week at Little Muskie Retreat. 4 adults and 3 small children. We had a fabulous time! The house was spotless and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the canoe, and the kids loved swimming and catching fish off the dock. Many bald eagle sightings! It’s very quiet, but close to many restaurants and activities. I highly recommend this place!
Our family truly enjoyed our stay here! Quiet lake-even with 4th of July, not many people on it. We’re not fishermen but we could see lots of fish from dock. Wonderful time enjoying our own Lily Pad on the lake. Beautiful dock with bench at the end to just sit and relax. Canoe was available but we used our kayaks-nice paddle around lake. Beds were very comfortable. We used them all. Plenty of space indoors to enjoy game playing when it rained outside. Very close to Minocqua to enjoy festivities there, also. Many restaurants nearby, also. Only thing that may need improvement is WiFi wasn’t very fast, so streaming or working from this location probably not advisable. My hotspot worked fine for that though. Would definitely recommend for vacationing in this area!
We were in the area for snow biking. The property was as advertised and the hosts were exceptional to work with. The gas fire place is easy to operate and a great option to come home to in the evenings.
Great place to stay with the kids to snowmobile. Close to the trails. Just a short drive on the lake and across Hwy 51 and you are on the trails. The owner responded immediately to all our messages. House was clean and perfect for our family of 5. Added bonus to have the garage to keep our snowmobiles at night. House was bigger than the pics showed I thought which was a nice surprise. Will definitely stay here again and would love to come up in the summer!!
Big turn around driveway for trucks with trailers. Roomy inside with a beautiful view. Close to amenities. Very nice owners, easy to get ahold of by messaging host.
The location was perfect and the lake had plenty of fish to be caught. The boat launch was a bit on the steeper side but not an issue for us. Communication with the owner was excellent. Plenty of space for our family!
The second time we have stayed at this property. As before the property was clean and as listed. Close to lots of amenities which is no small feat this far north.
The house was exactly as listed and worked great for our family. The lake was perfect for the kids to swim and fish in. Canoe was a nice addition. If we could change anything, the traffic noise. It very close to Hwy 51.
The cabin was beautiful and clean! It had everything we needed and more! The backyard area was where we spent most of our time and it was such a relaxing space! The lake view from the backyard was absolutely INCREDIBLE. We look forward to our next trip back, and would highly recommend staying at this cabin to anyone and everyone!
Great property, definitely better than appears. Location is ideal if snowmobiling, with indoor parking for sleds! Property manager is quick to respond! Perfect for a weekend getaway.
We had a delightful stay at Little Muskie Retreat. The cabin had everything we needed and wanted. It was extremely well cared for and the love the owners had for it was very visible. It was chilly when we arrived and we were glad for the heat in the mornings. But later in the week, we were glad for the AC also.
We fished off the dock and had an excellent time - at least I did because I was happy to catch dozens of bluegills on wax worms but my husband wasn't so lucky using flies. I kept telling him to add a worm to his flies.
The views of the lake were the perfect setting for a relaxing week.
Thank you for allowing us to use your Retreat.
The house was perfect and everything we expected. Lake was a great size and we caught a bunch of good size pan fish. It was perfect for skiing and tubing. The boat launch was horrendous, which I realize is not the owners fault, however, we didn’t know it was this bad which was surprising to us when we went to launch our boat. Just want people to be aware of this. We were able to get our boat in and out but it was a struggle!

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Didn’t quite live up to expectations
Bottom line: was expecting a little bit more, especially given price. We made do but would not stay again.
Pros:
- plenty of dry firewood for the campfire
- spacious
- bald eagle(s) regularly perched in pine tree right by cabin
- close proximity to both Minocqua and St. Germain (where family was staying)
- canoe available for lake use
- decent selection of DirectTV channels including HBO
- reliable wireless
Cons:
- outside of house and deck in sore need of power washing
- most (not all) deck chairs in disrepair
- water very mineral-y, smelled of iron - to such a degree that we didn’t feel comfortable drinking it and had to use bottled water for just about everything
- several clothes items washed in washing machine left with rust-iron stains (not just light-colored clothing either)
- house not entirely clean upon arrival — kitchen sink was literally brown and fridge had not been wiped out (was able to scrub sink clean after letting it soak with Comet)
- pillows and mattress in master bedroom
old and not very comfortable
- not enough bath towels for our party of 4 (fortunately we had brought extra)
- kitchen supplies old, very worn and did not appear particularly well-cared for
Enjoyed the cabin and fishing and swimming off the dock and boat ride to bbq.

About the host
Hosted by Adrian & Tammi Tengler
We grew up, and still live in Southern Wisconsin but love the Northwoods. Our family used to travel to the Minocqua area when we were kids. We have many great memories from those trips. Ever since those days we've always wanted a cabin of our own in the Minocqua area. This is our only rental property so we love it and care for it as our own home. This property is also our vacation home which we love and cherish! Because of this we expect our guests to do so as well.
What makes this property unique
We fell in love with this property because of its unique location where it is private yet only minutes from the popular downtown Minocqua area.
