Lockup (STR certificate account #006528) is a classic beach house, very charming, but not fancy, located on the beach in Wauwinet. Its location and views are spectacular! For that reason, Lockup has been featured in "Yankee" (May/June 2023), the 2003 Nantucket Calendar (March), in Robert Gambee's 'Nantucket Island' (1986) and in 'My Nantucket ABC Book' for children. Lockup sits atop the sand dune next to the ocean beach, and you literally walk off the back deck onto the enormous beach. You see water out of every window, and the house is surrounded by decks on 3 sides allowing you to choose sun or shade, breeze or no breeze.
Lockup has been rented for most of the last 35 years by one excellent tenant family whenever the owners are not on island. Lockup is now available for outside rental during the specified periods shown on our calendar.
Lockup has 4 bedrooms and two baths. Upstairs there is a king master with windows on 3 sides; a twin bedroom with the ocean view; a triple with a view of the harbor; and a bathroom with a small clawfoot tub. Downstairs there is a queen bedroom off the kitchen offering privacy. There is one bathroom downstairs, and a separate indoor shower, which is only occasionally used as occupants prefer the outdoor shower with a view of the ocean. The living area downstairs includes the living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry room. The kitchen is well stocked, and the back deck is ideal for grilling. A Weber gas grill is provided. Chaise lounges and outdoor furniture are positioned on each deck. Parking space is provided for a maximum of 2 vehicles.
Lockup is a refuge from a busy and stressful life, and it lends itself to fun, relaxation, beautiful sunsets and enjoying nature. There is a 5 miles protected wildlife wilderness immediately to the north of the village leading to Great Point.
High speed internet and wifi are provided, but there is no TV. The line had to be drawn somewhere, as Lockup is about reconnecting with family and each other.
The Massachusetts Department of Revenue has provided Lockup with a Room Occupancy Excise Registration Certificate. The Certificate Number is C0078261970.

Perfect Nantucket beach house with beautiful views and of course the beach and ocean. Our family of five plus dog enjoyed a very memorable summer vacation. Hosts are easy to communicate with, caring, and responsive.
Lock up is the best example of a true 'Nantucket cottage' on the island, it is an absolute gem. The views of the Atlantic and harbor are understated in the description. When we entered the cottage the views brought tears to my eyes.... Our host was an absolute gentleman and very informative and attentive throughout our stay. Our family had an absolutely amazing vacation at 'Lock up'.

Thank you, Charles, for your very kind review. Hopefully, you received mine as well. Best wishes. Mike
Incredible location with direct beach access overlooking both the Atlantic Ocean and Nantucket Harbor. Beautiful little rustic getaway on a remote part of the island. Fast WiFi!
What a fantastic vacation we had at this house, which was located right on the Atlantic ocean with a short walk to the bay. It was essentially the best of both worlds. We enjoyed great days on the beach, cocktails in the late afternoon overlooking the bay and fires at night on the beach. I would highly recommend staying at this house. The communication with the owner was flawless. An AAAA++++ experience!
Everyone wants to stay near the beach on vacation. Well, Lockup is ON the beach. It was phenomenal to hear the waves crashing on shore while going to sleep. The bay can be seen from that side of the house and is not even 2 minutes away. Lots and lots of good fishing and water activities. The house suits its setting on one of the most wonderful beaches in Nantucket. Most of our party took their showers outside and loved it even in late September/early October. We couldn't have asked for a better venue for our Fall vacation in Nantucket.

About the host
Hosted by Alvin W. 'Mike' Fargo
Lockup was purchased by our parents as a 25th anniversary gift to each other in 1965. The original living room and dining room on the ground floor and the two bedrooms above were moved up the dune and perched on the top of the bluff overlooking both the ocean and Wauwinet harbor. A new kitchen, bathroom, laundry room and master bedroom above were then added. Later, a wing was added on the ground floor, which is now a queen bedroom.
Why they chose this property
Lockup is ideally situated right on the ocean beach and only a short walk from the harbor. Lockup combines simplicity and charm, and it has nurtured the soul for generations.
What makes this property unique
Unparalleled views, and one of the most beautiful beaches anywhere right out the back door.
