The family enjoyed the perfect location to enjoy Acadia. Elizabeth is a great and responsive host that even mailed us back something we left behind. Highly recommend!

Round Pond House
Great location. Nice pond and kayaking. Nice outdoor area. Cleaner did not clean the house before our arrival. I rectified this with the owner. Although rustic (log cabin), the house could have used a massive cleaning in all the spots the weekly cleaner doesn’t clean. The couch seat covers were stained or dirty ( needed to put a sheet over it so we could sit down), etc. This house has great potential except for the cleanliness.

I apologized multiple times for the cleaner's mistake in planning to visit Sun., not Sat. & offered to cover dinner while I called the cleaner. The renter refused; I refunded the amount he asked. This regrettable mistake was clearly on my end. I dispute other comments: I saw no stains on any slipcovers; neither did visitors before or after this one. The upholstery UNDERNEATH has stains (prior renters); hence the slipcovers. Oddly for such a fastidious group, a circular burn mark now mars the table. Empty "nips" of rum were in a windbreaker.
Cabin is very secluded/private. Grounds were very well maintained. Inside was very clean and comfortable. Elizabeth was very helpful and was very prompt with questions. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Thank you for the positive review; we're so glad you enjoyed your stay. We'd be happy to have you return.
Wow!! This was such a peaceful and amazing home away from home. The host was attentive to any of my questions and gave great advice on places to see and restaurants to eat at. I loved the fact that the house could have hosted two separate families or grandparents as the first floor had two bedrooms and a full bath with little to no steps. Beautiful pond in the backyard and enjoyed kayaking on it. Saw some eagles as well as heard frogs at night. Spacious kitchen and plenty of room to eat in or out. The deck overlooked the pond and enjoyed eating out there. The best part was the huge hammock in the backyard-so peaceful!!

The true feeling of Maine
We first stayed at this beautiful log house last year, and we enjoyed it so much we returned this summer. The house is lovely and comfortable; surrounded by trees and overlooking Round Pond, it has plenty of space for relaxation and quiet contemplation, but it's also a great place for cooking and sharing meals, conversation, inhaling the pine-scented air, enjoying the cool breezes off the pond, and listening to the loons. Bar Harbor is a 15-minute drive away, along with the more popular trails in Acadia, but if you prefer to avoid the crowds the trails on the quiet side of the island are excellent and much less frequented. Elizabeth, the owner, is very responsive and called the second day of our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. A quintessential Maine experience!

Rustic cabin in a peaceful setting
Rustic and charming are the best words to describe this log cabin. Although the western view was slightly obstructed by trees, the side deck was the best place to watch the sunset and relax with a glass of wine. The cabin does not have cable tv - and the wi-fi connection was spotty at best- but there was a good selection of books & games provided by the owner.
The weather was awesome the first week of September, days were warm enough but not too hot. Evenings got chilly - we lit the wood-burning fireplace the last night. Unfortunately, there was no outdoor fire pit....the night sky on MDI was awesome and we would've loved to be able to sit around the fire and look at the stars.
The house's biggest drawback was the kitchen. Granted, we had two chefs in our party. However, they had a hard time making due with the outdated appliances, pots, & pans. For a group that plans on eating out a lot, this may not be a big deal - however we had dinner in most nights.
The owner was very nice - despite some initial confusion on our reservation (which was straightened out with plenty of time to spare). She left a lot of brochures and recommendations and called to check on us the first night.
Overall, we had a great week and are grateful that she was willing to share her house with us.

True, the cabin has neither cable, fire pit, nor high-tech kitchen; the profile and pictures correctly depict it. We were happy to gain wifi in 2013. Refrigerator was new in fall 2014, dishwasher and disposal work, and Jenn-air range got a new cartridge in 2013. People who enjoy natural settings may be happiest here.

Peaceful, Comfortable Getaway Right on MDI
This lovely log home is ideally situated far back from the road on a PRISTINE, seemingly 100% private pond and undeveloped (but for the house) property. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the echoing call of loons. Each day, we had a hard time leaving to enjoy the rest of what MDI has to offer because this place offered such comfort and serenity.
The home itself is roomy enough and can accommodate a family - maybe two depending upon ages and number of kids. The small dock is just the right level and size for launching/landing kayaks and canoes. Although we brought our own kayaks, the house does have kayaks and a canoe as well as other water toys in the basement (accessed from doors outside). Fishing rods too!
The pond is flat-out gorgeous and appears to be a natural part of the island's landscape/ecosystem -- marshy areas, beaver huts and all! Deer watched from the shadows of the serene woods as I paddled along an unspoiled shoreline opposite the house :)
Our experience renting was simple and flawless with great communication from the owner (no manager or agent involved here). Being in town during our arrival, the owner welcomed us personally when we had an initial need and was hospitable to a fault! And, when we encountered a minor plumbing issue, it was addressed and fixed immediately without any inconvenience to us.
As for the location, you can't get any better insofar as having what feels like a place in the deep Maine wilderness yet being just a few short miles from the most desirable spots on MDI.
Lovely place, lovely experience; We have our sights on coming back next year!

Loons like the fish in the pond, and deer enjoy the woods and long driveway. Privacy makes the cabin a great spot for relaxing, with walks, hikes, lovely gardens, and other sightseeing nearby. The Southwest Harbor Public Library has a great selection, too, for quiet times.
This cabin is a find. You basically have a private pond to swim & paddle, with 2 spacious decks for gathering and relaxing. Inside is lovely. The main floor living area is more spacious than we were expecting, and the 4 bedrooms (3+loft) were perfect to accommodate our 3 generation group. Finding this lakefront, w/4 bedrooms, 2.5 bath (+ outdoor shower!) felt like a real score. We were all very happy and comfortable during our stay.
Elizabeth is very communicative. She was quick to respond to all inquiries, and also provided lots of useful details and extra info. This continued all the way up to our stay and was really helpful. She obviously cares deeply about the quality of the cabin & its furnishings.
However, Elizabeth is also very particular and her expectations exceed common standards. I say this as someone who has frequently rented other vacation homes without issue, and rented out my own home as well. We are respectful and careful guests, always leaving rentals in excellent condition. But, while most of our interactions were helpful and friendly, we also had some tension around a few issues. Do not expect any grace or wiggle room related to rules, and do report anything that could potentially be assessed as damage the instant you discover it. Understand that her concept of "normal wear & tear" may not match yours. And note: you must take with you at checkout any trash accumulated after the last pickup (which is totally inconvenient, kinda gross, and a little odd).

Guilty as charged: I'm particular, hoping all guests enjoy their stay. Marla wrote multiple times yet never asked to arrive early. When her party entered before the contracted time, the cleaner (still working) was distracted from a task. Marla said early arrival is common for her. (Please ask first about early arrival.)
As for trash, with Tues./Fri. pickup and a garbage disposal, having renters take one day's trash elsewhere saves cleaners a round trip to the dump (~45 min.). Finding cardboard for 24 cans of beer, 36 (+?) sodas, broken wine glasses, a chair without a spindle, and stripped blind cords disappointed me. I asked about the cords and early arrival; Marla shared her wisdom about rentals.

BEWARE OF OWNER!
BEWARE! The owner is not honest, she is very difficult & she tried to intimidate & scam us!
Ms. Fox asked us to sign a contract she had drawn up 24 hours before our arrival without any previous notification of the need to sign a contract. Among the clauses in the contract is the requirement to notify Ms. Fox within 24 hours of any damage to the house. Ms. Fox called us within 12 hours of arriving expecting a full report on “how things were”. We had not noticed anything in the short time we had been in the house. Over the next week we noticed some things which we considered normal to “wear-&-tear”. Not wanting to be annoying tenants, we took care of them ourselves or ignored them without complaining, such as: 1) Shades with draw strings that were frayed; 2) A lock on the door that is very hard to open; 3) Scrapes on the hardwood floors; 4) Very dirty kitchen cabinets full of food left by former guests; 5) Dried fruit loop cereal in the couch creases & toenail clippings on the living room rug; 6) Lots of dust bunnies under all beds; 7) Refrigerator leftovers from previous guests; and 8) A trash can full of garbage upon arrival.
We arrived home from the vacation to find emails from Ms. Fox accusing us of damaging a $2000 Thomas Moser stool in her kitchen; photos showed a small (estimate 1/4 -1/2 inch) chip on the bottom of one of the legs. We explained that no one from our family dropped or had any kind of “accident” with the stool. In her response, Ms. Fox implied that we were lying & that someone in our family “must have kicked it with hiking boots on”. We explained how we treated her house with care/respect as if it were our own and, as a result, at no time did anybody wear shoes inside. Ms. Fox expects you to leave the house as you found it – essentially professionally cleaned - and we explained that the napkin she accused us of taking from the kitchen was probably tucked away with all the sheets & towels we laundered!
Ms. Fox persistently misconstrued our visit & treatment of her house in nasty emails with false statements. We worked hard to leave the house as clean as possible & she stated we left it “excessively dirty.” I also dead-headed & watered her petunias & she falsely claimed that I had killed them! We are not the only family to receive such treatment; read the review that Lynn G. left in July 2016. If you stay, do a full inspection & take photos of every single piece of furniture & anything you plan on using to protect yourself.

Oh, dear. My initial email of 2/25/21 mentioned the contract. Gwen wanted 2 weeks; I gave up one of my own and revised contract, which bans fires except in grill (log cabin is in woods). She said all positive things when I called but "forgot" to pay second half after VRBO email, VRBO late notice, my email, and text. She paid only when I called and planned to arrive. I accused no one of theft but asked about obvious 1+" damage on handmade cherry stool. I sent photos of it, candy melted on sheet and chair, & dead flowers. Cleaners said cabin was very dirty; in 90' heat, I told them I'd sort laundry and make beds, so I saw melted candy. Brevity is the soul of wit, so I'll stop.

Oh, dear. I gave up a week so the reviewer could stay two weeks. She "forgot" to pay for the second half of the second week until I emailed, texted, & called. I quote my email of 2/25/21: "I'll ask you to sign, scan, and return that contract." I revised it to cover the second week in July. I called Sunday after 9 a.m. to welcome Gwen and answer questions. Some shade cords are frayed, it's true; other renters scratched the floor near the washer. Locks stick in humidity but have been fine for me. Previous renters should have put out the trash, and I apologized. I accused no one of theft but sent pictures of 1+" chip, dead petunias, and candy melted on a sheet, asking what Gwen proposed. Basics like mayo, ketchup, oil, vinegar, flour, sugar, etc. are here for renters' ease. Cleaners reported a very dirty cabin; given the heat, I said to leave laundry for me, so I saw candy melted on a sheet (and stuck on a chair). I want visitors to enjoy their time AND to respect the furnishings. I wish Gwen had told me about shortcomings when I called or before she left. (A specialist will repair the chip.)
My mom and I stayed in this cabin during our Maine vacation and I would recommend it to anybody who wants a peaceful escape to a wooded place near Acadia National Park. The cabin itself was clean, with good appliances, and plenty of dishes, napkins and utensils. The best part about it is the location in the woods along the lake in Pretty Marsh. I would stay here again if I could.
This lovely house is built entirely of wood -- inside and out. It is located on Round Pond, a clean and clear lake. We did not see any other people or boats on the lake during our entire stay -- complete privacy. We spent hours sitting on the elevated deck looking over the lake through beautiful pine trees. The grounds were beautiful. Every night we watched the sun set over the lake. The large oval dining table with matching chairs provided plenty of room for 8 people. The kitchen was well furnished with utensils, equipment and pans. The host provided very nice linens and many absorbent towels. Although there was no A/C there were several fans -- enough for every bedroom. We appreciated the ease of using the kayaks. The lake was perfect for swimming. Several naps were taken in the large comfortable hammock. Also having a kayak and paddle board rental facility so close to the cabin was great when we wanted to take an excursion on nearby Long Pond. The cabin is perfect for 6 adults and 2 children/teenages. We created many great memories during our stay here.
Beautiful location on Round Pond (just north of Long Pond) MT Desert Island ME. There are plenty of comfortable beds and enough cooking supplies if you want to cook your own food. Location is close to Acadia Park and Bar Harbor.
Absolutely amazing lake side property. Private, gorgeous view, sweet log cabin, lake activities. Could not have been more please. Short ride to Acadia.
My family stayed here a week with another family and the house is fantastic. We loved being on the lake and having it to ourselves. The kids fished off the dock every day and we all used the kayaks. The location is great, you’re really not far from anything. We explored a lot of the island and found the Bar Harbor and Acadia area to be very busy, so we were happy to be in a bit more secluded area. There are plenty of hiking trails and water access right near the cottage.
Elizabeth was a fantastic host, very responsive to questions and offered many suggestions on what to do. The house had everything we needed and more. I wish I was sitting on that back deck with my coffee right now!
The photos can not do this wonderful cabin justice. It is a true log cabin, nestled in the woods by a large pond. The rooms are spacious and well laid out. The loft bedroom is plenty big for 2 adults, and the three other bedrooms are also spacious and delightful. No AC, but the windows are well placed for cross ventilation and, because it is nestled in the woods and by a pond, it was 10 degrees cooler than the rest of Acadia, even on the hottest heatwave days. Plus you can swim in the pond to cool off. We bought some floats at the hardware store in town and had a GREAT time! The main living are is also wonderfully laid out, and the porches delightful. Kitchen had all we needed for a house full of cooks. A+++++
i stayed at this cabin for a week and it was the best cabin i ever rented. it happened to be available for another week and i immediately put my plans on hold and stayed another week. i can't wait to be back next season. James C
Lovely rustic cabin for those looking to escape the city
We had a wonderful time staying at Elizabeth's cabin and would gladly return for another stay! She provided clear and active communication before our stay, including recommendations for places to get groceries and other supplies. Her home was just what we were looking for -- a no-frills cabin with ample space for me and my husband, our 1y daughter, and our parents. The house was situated on a gorgeous lake, where we basically saw no one else for the entire 9-day stay. The kitchen, while a little tight, was outfitted with all the supplies we needed to cook the entire time we were there. There was also a small charcoal grill, which we put to good work! The cabin was an easy drive to Acadia National Park, where we were able to take some Covid-friendly hikes, and Bar Harbor, where we grabbed lobster rolls to go. The one issue to be aware of is that the internet connection was unreliable and neither my husband nor I had cell service (Verizon and Google Fi), so if you need to be doing work or taking important calls, this may not be the right fit.
This is a lovely rustic log cabin by a virtually private pond. The main area -- living room, kitchen, dining room -- has a terrific feel, with vaulted living room ceiling and excellent pond view from the dining room table. The outside porch, also looking out to the pond, is a great spot to work or just relax. Pond was terrific for kayaking and swimming. Location terrific for MDI activities. Only caveat is it could use a bit of sprucing up -- front door unlocks only with some effort, door to washer/dryer area needs fixing, a few other things like that. But overall it's really a hidden away gem! Owner was very communicative.
We returned because we love the island and the cabin--the site is magical!

What a gem!
What a wonderful vacation spot! The house is both beautiful and comfortable and sits on its own small lake. There is a large deck overlooking the lake and another on the back of the house. We did lots of cooking, eating, swimming, reading, hanging out at the house and lots of hiking, kayaking, bicycling away from the house. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and all 5 of us wanted to stay longer! We are definitely looking forward to coming back!! Thanks, Elizabeth.

True Retreat Gem
My husband and I spent two weeks at this cabin. It is a log cabin with all amenities of a four bedroom home. Very spacious and comfortable, surrounded by old trees on a bank of a secluded pond. When not in the national park, we spent our days on a front porch overlooking sunset sparkles at a water surface. The porch had just the right amount of sun/shade and there was a very slight breeze ensuring a mosquito-free ambient. The kitchen was sufficiently equipped to make simple meals. Local farm and the markets were a good source of fresh produce, and the park attractions were near by. We appreciated not to be in the middle of a touristy area and welcomed the peace of the cabin setting upon our return from the park. The mooring is just the right height to get in and out of a kayak/canoe which are available on the property.
So tranquil; only the occasional call of a loon or chattering of a squirrel to break the silence.
