About this property

Beach's Edge, On the beach

This beautiful home is right on the Florida sugar sand beach, which is often uninhabited except by wading birds, ghost crabs, osprey and snook. This property features direct beach access so you can walk right onto the beach and into the Gulf of Mexico. North Captiva Island features some of the most secluded beaches in the continental United States. Many times of the year, your family may be the only ones on the beach.

North Captiva Island is only accessible by water taxi and there are no cars on the island. Transportation on the island is by golf cart which is provided with your rental, walking or bicycle. There are no paved roads, only sandy paths winding through tropical vegetation. It is truly a unique setting. Palm trees, gumbo limbo trees and beautiful flowers are everywhere.

Our favorite activities are fishing, shelling, swimming and exploring the beach and state land. There are a large number of wading birds, gopher tortoises, raccoons, brown pelicans, osprey, egrets, cormorants, bald eagles, ibis and sanderlings. There are two very nice swimming pools and hot tub maintained by our island club a short walk or golf cart drive from our house. Kayaks and bicycles are also available at no charge through the island club. Tarpon, sea trout, red fish, snook, and snapper may be caught from the shore. Shelling is a daily activity on the island. North Captiva is often described as the shelling capital of North America.

Our house, Beach's Edge, is beautifully appointed and newly updated. The kitchen includes new stainless steel appliances and gulf views. The living room includes new leather couches and flat screen TV. There are 2 bedrooms on the main floor: a master bedroom with a gulf view and a guest bedroom with two bunk-beds. There is one full bath on the main floor.

Because the house is on the west shore of North Captiva we are often witness to stunning sunsets which can be observed from your bedroom or the back deck. Don't forget your camera to help capture some memories. If you are lucky you may see Dolphin playing in the surf, Tarpon showing past the first breakers and the legendary stoop of the brown pelican fishing. This has got to be one of the prettiest and most unusual places you will ever see.

Best spot on the island!

This was our second time staying at Beach’s Edge and it continues to be our favorite vacation spot. Easily the best views in the island right from your deck! The house is perfect and the addition of the hot tub on the upper deck made our stay even more fun. Kids loved playing on the beach, collecting shells and taking in amazing sunsets. We saw dolphins, osprey, manatee, tortoises etc! This house has plenty of room and had been nicely updated since we last stayed. Downstairs area was a great spot for the grandparents to join us and have their own space! Property managers made the stay easy from checking in to heading out. You can find bigger homes on North Cap but none that are worth the location you give up. You won’t regret choosing Beach s Edge!

Stranded

The location of the home is amazing. The 3rd bedroom is separate from the rest of the house. House manager Duncan is awful. He never gave us his contact info. Hot tub cover kept blowing off so could not use kitchen sink clogged. Bath tub clogged. Cart kept breaking down. It is the only way to get around the island. We could not go to club to swim or go to restaurants. When we asked for another cart they would send repair person. All fixed!! Wrong broken down again. This went on for two weeks Do Not Rent!!!

Best Vacation Ever!

This was by far our favorite family vacation! The home is in the best location on the island and the view of the sunset from the deck is amazing! The property managers were very personable and professional and made our stay on the island worry free. We can’t wait to return to paradise and will definitely book Beach’s Edge!

The BEST place to be

We look forward to our yearly vacation at North Captiva and staying at Beaches Edge. It feels like home the minute we pull up to the house. It has everything we need and we loved the new living room furniture. The views are the best on the beach and we really enjoyed watching the sunsets while sitting on the new swing. Alicia is awesome to work with and always takes care of us. We can’t wait to go back next year.

fantastic location

Great spot for some family time! We only ate out twice (underwhelming at best)...but that's not why we were there. We stopped at grocery before heading to the island and rarely left the house/beach. Made friends with a crab that lived by the deck. Saw tones of wildlife. It was lovely!

Great location on the beach!

We had a great time! The house has one of the best locations on the island, right on the beach! The new management company makes for a seamless transfer of your items to and from the house on check in and check out! They took care of everything that we needed! Would recommend this house for a small family. We stayed with 2 adults, 2 kids. Tons of wildlife as you tour the island on your golf cart - also a must have! We enjoyed it - very relaxing stay! Thank you!

Incredible stay!

Our family had a perfect weeklong stay at Beaches Edge. It was our first time to the island and we were a little nervous at first about the remoteness of it all, but that turned out to be the best part—we were forced to disconnect and relax. We loved the beach view/access and made sure to catch the sunset every night, often from the deck. One night, a bunch of dolphins played right out front of the house just before sunset! Our kids (ages 3 & 7) spent hours playing in the sand and finding seashells. Access to the island club was a nice perk, especially on a windy day when the ocean was a little rough. The kids loved the pool and we enjoyed getting lunch at Mangoes. Grocery delivery (and the midweek fresh fish delivery) made everything very easy. All in all, it was just what our busy family needed and we can’t wait to return!

Too many cooks

Maybe some kind of checklist to know where to go and what to do. Seems like the miscommunication between the owner and the property manager and all involved was liking..the house was supposed to be finished. The contractor was supposed to be out of there. And it just didn't happen.

Guys Fishing Trip

We throughly enjoyed staying at your property and I will most definitely be back in the future. The only issues we had were we were ate up by sand fleas sitting on the upper back deck having some more citronella candles and/or preventive if any could be done. It did get pretty warm in the evenings in the living area but we adapted. Again thank you for an enjoyable property with some of the most amazing sunsets and night views we had ever seen.

Honeymoon dream house!

My husband brought me here to celebrate our honeymoon, and it was perfect! This house is so close to the water, we were lulled to sleep each night by the sound of the ocean waves. The furniture and bedding was in great condition, and the kitchen was stocked with all the supplies we needed to cook fabulous meals each day (using the groceries we brought with us). We rarely came across other people near the property, making us feel like we were on our own private romantic getaway. You cannot beat the location of this beach house!! I definitely hope to return one day! :)

Amazing views, perfect location

My husband and I stayed here with our 3 young kids for the first time and had a blast. The view was amazing. There was even a sandbar out in the water. Sunsets were breathtaking. Someone had started making a fort on the beach out of driftwood and palm trees, so the kids loved it. Shells were endless and fun to pick. Walked right out on to the beach from the house. Loved taking the golf cart to the pool, appreciating the nature on the way. There was lots of wildlife to appreciate- pelicans, turtles, dolphins, manatees. Was an amazing vacation-couldn't of asked for a better location on the island! One of a kind.

Amazing Sunsets

Overall the property had most everything just a few things that were inconvenient like no wash cloths or throw rugs to catch some of the dirt and sand. I'm a clean nut so I spent a lot of time sweeping the floor with a terrible broom. The landscape needs attention looks messy from the hurricane. Little things but could mean big things in the long run.

Breathtaking home steps away from the Gulf!

I can’t say enough good things about this home and Alicia. From the very beginning she has been quick to respond and extremely informative. The home had everything you could possibly need for a week or more stay. The beds were comfy, home was spotless, and you feel secluded and peaceful while watching the water. We played monopoly one of the nights that it rained (glad it was in the closet!), and although we didn’t think we’d turn the TV on at all, it was nice to have for the weather and news. LOVED tooling around the island on the golf cart that was included. We WILL be back next year and I have already recommended this home and vacation to all my friends and family. Thanks so much Alicia!!!!

Our family includes Mark and Becky and our 7 grown children, 2 grandchildren, and 4 dogs (2 Airedales and 2 Shihtzus). We have 1 in Maine with her daughter, 1 in Philadelphia, 3 in Kansas City, 1 in New Jersey with his wife and son and 1 in California. Mark is a Family Practice physician in Kansas City and Becky is a homemaker who loves children, animals, jail ministry, and working with kids in the inner city. Alicia, our daughter-in-law, enjoys answering inquiries on VRBO/HomeAway and helps our guests plan and book their vacations to the island and our home.

Why they chose this property

We love the island, the trees, flowers and the uncrowded beaches. We have had our best vacations here walking the beach, playing games, praying, reading and enjoying the wildlife.

What makes this property unique

We have one of the few homes on the island that is on the beach and has direct beach access. Driving around the island in the golf cart observing island flora and fauna is unique to this place. We are members of the North Captiva Island Club and you will have access to all the amenities of the Club including 2 large swimming pools and a hot tub when you stay in our home. The beaches are the least crowded we have ever been on. The nighttime stars are spectacular and we have watched sea turtles digging a nest on the side of our house.
