About this property
Mountain House with Beautiful Views Sugar Hill/Franconia, NH
We absolutely love this area. There are incredible views throughout the house, and it's located on a private dead end road in Sugar Hill, NH, (town next to Franconia) right in the white mountains. During this time of year, the house is in the center of great outdoors activities - Franconia Notch State Park, Cannon Mt, hiking trails, and Echo Lake are all nearby....and great restaurants. Loon is about 30 min away and Bretton Woods is about 35 min away as well.
We just re-designed the house and made some upgrades as of Nov 28, 2021! The house has two floors - the downstairs has an open kitchen/living room set up as the main sitting area. There is a wall of 10 windows opening out to the mountain view and the deck. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, coffee maker, all appliances, all silverware and glassware and plates and cooking items. On the main floor there is also a den with a TV with satellite access, internet, a full bathroom and a mudroom and washer/dryer. Upstairs there are three bedrooms with new queen mattresses, new bed spreads, new lamps and chairs and another full bathroom.
The house is great for people who want to go outside all day for activities and then come back to a quiet setting with a great view to unwind, have a glass of wine or beer and make dinner. Or you could simply relax and stare at the view all day.
The main reasons we love this area are: there are hiking trails throughout and around Franconia Notch State park, great access to skiing, and also local off the beaten path, walking trails. Cannon Mt is a short 15 min drive away, Bretton Woods and the Mt. Washington Lodge are only about 30-35 min away for all kinds of adventures. In terms of nearby restaurants there are great options for soup and sandwiches in Franconia, Polly's Pancakes is a local favorite which has been completely re-done, The Horse and Hound has re-opened their doors for a really nice dinner, The Iron Furnace is a local brewery in Franconia, Schilling, has expanded in Littleton for great pizza, salads and great brews with a full tasting taproom. There are many other great options for food, drink and shopping for antiques. For clothes shopping, Garnet Hill offers great discounts on clothing right in Franconia. We got married in Sugar Hill and have loved the area for years and years. We hope you stay. - John

A fantastic host - excellent communication, especially responsive when we had snow storms and a black out. Spacious comfortable home with everything you could need. Spectacular views.
This house is incredible- breathtaking panoramic views from the wall of windows, very comfortable open kitchen/ living area, great kitchen for cooking, comfy beds- extremely clean. we hope to come back next year! John is a marvelous host who shared many tips on local hikes, restaurants and coffee places. Very highly recommend! You will love it here!
We didn’t want to leave! The views were stupendous, the hiking was marvelous. The kitchen was well appointed for real cooks, The house was welcoming and comfortable. We will definitely return.
This was our 5th year staying here and everything was great, as it has been every year. House was nice and clean, lots of spare towels, and the owner is ver quick to respond. We had a breaker trip and when I contacted him he was fast in replying and telling me where the breakers were and to fix it.
This was the perfect place for our family to come for a weekend getaway. The house has plenty of space and was super cozy. Our son loved all the toys available.
Our family was very happy with the property. It is just as described. Everything was clean and comfortable. Very close to local attractions. We highly recommend!
I would highly recommend this place to anyone! The house is extremely spacious, has all the amenities one would need and the VIEW!!! Waking up to views of the mountain was breathtaking! It is an easy ride to the ski mountains and there are some great restaurants close by too. John (the host) was very communicative and helpful and it truly felt like a home away from home.
Amazing house in Sugar Hill! A wedding weekend for us! The house had everything you needed! The weather was great! The views from the back deck UNBELIEVABLE! Thanks John for welcoming us to your beautiful home! We’ll be back!🙂
This house rental was very compatible for our family of four. The separate room for the TV left the open concept kitchen/dining/living room distraction free to socialize while enjoying the amazing view of the mountains. On one of the clear days we were able to see the whole range all the way down to Mt. Washington. The remoteness was also a plus for the complete silence it afforded us. The owner was extremely responsive and communicated before, during and after our stay to insure we had a positive experience. I wouldn't hesitate to use this property again.
This was the perfect location for our 9 day stay in early October. Private and quiet yet close to hiking and the spectacular scenery this area has to offer. The accommodations are extremely comfortable with the best equipped kitchen of any rental we've ever stayed at....including the near extinct sharp kitchen knives! Sitting on the deck watching the light change on Mt. Lafayette as the sun set, or the early morning view with the mist covered valleys often accompanied by the hooting of the Barred Owls in the forest below is not to be missed. We've been holidaying in the White Mountains for 30+ years and Mountain House is a real gem.
The house is definitely sunggled in the woods of Sugar Hill. Very peaceful. The home is clean & spacious. We did not cook there but there appeared to be plenty of pots/pans, etc. It is located about 30 minutes from Lincoln, where we visited the Ice Castles. We could not get the propane fireplace to stay lit, so hopefully John, the owner will investigate. Thank you!

Thanks so much Dale - the fireplace is fixed as of this week - it needed a pipe cleaned. So glad you had a nice time! - John
Our stay was everything we hoped for. The neighborhood was quiet and the view from the deck was amazing and relaxing! The house was clean, bright and bigger than expected. When wanting to relax, there was plenty of space to easily separate to different areas to watch t.v., read, play games, or nap. The large family dining room table was a favorite place to come together for food and conversation. We all slept well as the beds were very comfortable and had cozy pillows and blankets. The owners were easy to communicate with and take time and effort to make their home a comfortable and welcoming place for their guests.
We were in New Hampshire for a wedding and prior to our arrival we were nervous about the lack of traditional hotel accomodations and the abundance of "rustic" options regarding vrbo homes. This house was perfect, though. Clean, updated, good water pressure, nice linens and an amazing view! The house had all of the things we needed and it was just 15 minutes from the wedding location (though we did think it was closer when we booked because we did not know about a road closure).
The owner was very responsive and the check-in and check-out procedures were easy and painless...
I highly recommend.

I feel compelled to write this review since our experience was vastly different from the 4.9/5 average rating for this rental. For sure the view is stunning. The large kitchen living area provided adequate and comfortable space for cooking, eating and relaxing. John provided detailed information on hikes, restaurants, shopping, where to take all trash and recycling in town and was available by text for questions. We were surprised to find a refrigerator and freezer full of food, the batteries removed from the lighter for the gas stove in the living room rendering it useless, all windows not locked (and you are instructed to lock windows when you leave), hot water turned off for the kitchen sink, sheets that were frayed and stained, bedding and other items piled on the closet floors and towels left in a heap on the closet shelves, making it impossible to figure out which were for guests vs. the family. Once you figure out how to turn on the hot water the incessant drip will drive you a bit crazy. It felt as if the owners had cleaned the floors and the bathrooms, thrown everything into closets and left. Would give this listing an overall rating of 2.5 if I could : between poor and okay.

Virginia, (and to anyone who reads this) we are so sorry you didn’t have the stay you hoped for, given your comments. Thank you very much for your feedback. This area is a wonderful spot and we like to share with others and we’ve tried hard to make it enjoyable.
Given your comments, we replaced the batteries in the remote (there are always extra batteries in the drawer by the refrigerator), removed the pair of sheets that had become old and and replaced those with new sheets. We removed the small amount food that the prior renter had left. For anyone reading this, all the towels are for guests only. We have a professional cleaner come every time who takes extra care during covid. We take that very seriously. Thank you again for the comments. We’re always trying to improve the place. - John and family

Beautiful house with beautiful views. The house was ready f
Ever-changing mountain views from most rooms in the house. The layout really takes full advantage of the view. We saw spectacular sunrises, purple sunsets, and the most amazing full moon rise we have ever seen. Peaceful, private setting. Great floor plan for a family. Well-stocked kitchen. Clear, helpful communication and local recommendations from John. We hope to return sometime.
I loved the Mountain View from many rooms in the house. A great location to go out and enjoy all the White Mountains have to offer. We conquered Mount Flume and Mount Liberty, visited The Flume Gorge, and did some horseback riding. So many more things to do and see had we had more days.
In short, this is a great house. The listing is accurate, the house is clean, ideally located, and well supplied with quality furniture and accessories. John is easy to contact and to communicate with. My wife and I spent a week here in July and have rented many houses in the area and elsewhere and this is among the best. You won't be disappointed.

My wife and I got married in Sugar Hill, grew up loving the mountains and want to be able to share this home with others. It's a special place for the two of us and our sons.
Why they chose this property
It’s on a quiet, dead end road in the beautiful town of Sugar Hill.
What makes this property unique
We love the private, dead end road which makes the location very quiet and peaceful. It's a great place to get away from it all. We could literally sit on the couch staring at the view all day.
