Young's Cottage or "Tigh na Meala" on the Wild Atlantic Way Dingle Peninsula
"Tigh na Meala" is the Irish for "House of honey" which was the original name of this two-storey cottage, stunningly situated on the Atlantic coast 10 min outside of Dingle town in the direction of Feothanach, Ballydavid and Brandon Creek. There are three bedrooms, one with a double bed( master), one with a bunk bed (two singles) and one with a double bed and single bunk (sleeps 7 total). The beautifully renovated farm house has a large kitchen and living room with a traditional fireplace including the original antique iron crane (see photo). There is a cosy bathroom downstairs with bath/shower and a toilet upstairs as well. The breathtaking view from the front of the house looks directly out on Smerwick Harbour to the south and to the West lie the Three Sisters and the Atlantic horizon. To the east is Ireland's second highest mountain, Mt. Brandon, climbed by Celtic/Christian pilgrims since the early Middle Ages. Also visible in the distance are the hills of Great Blasket Island. Total privacy, a cosy house facing the North Atlantic & proximity to Dingle's lively pub scene are what this house offers.

Try to leave the house tidy as you found it especially the kitchen with utensils washed and stowed away. Thank you very much

We enjoyed this cottage as our home base for exploring the Dingle peninsula. It is the classic Irish stone cottage, with a vastly upgraded kitchen. Please note there is no wifi, or tv, this is a place to unplug and enjoy the surroundings. Make sure you hike up the hill behind the house to see the crumbling castle and marvel at the cliffs descending to the wild Atlantic below.
Myself and 2 friends spent 3 days here in late October. The cottage was very comfortable and warm. The location of the cottage is amazing.
Hoping to be sitting by the fire, sipping Jameson, again next year!
We enjoyed the sympathetic restoration of the cottage, it was down to earth but at the same time very comfortable for our whole family. The big kitchen was perfect and we were lucky to have good weather to be able to sit outside.
The neighbouring cows were great!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit!
We visited the beautiful Dingle peninsula in May and felt completely at home in this charming vintage cottage. The entire house was lovely and the view was outstanding. We visited Dingle town in the evening and explored the delights of the countryside by day. We spent a gorgeous day on the Blasket island while we were there as well. I would love to visit again!
Simply put we loved every minute from when we arrived. House was fab full of character - the location is absolutely beautiful. We did not want to leave.
Young’s Cottage was a magical setting and home away from home while exploring the Dingle Peninsula. A short drive from the town of Dingle, beautiful surroundings, quiet and quaint, we got sunshine and some weather, which was perfect. The cottage was well equipped and clean with updated kitchen and bathroom. The beds were quite comfortable. And lots of walking opportunities around the area including a hike up Ballydavid from the house. Very peaceful and relaxing. Highly recommend a stay here!
This wonderful cottage is situated in the most dramatic and breathtaking landscape, one could stand outside and gaze for hours on end. It’s only a 10min drive to Dingle. Thanks Kathleen for having us! We will most definitely be back soon!
The cottage was incredible! The kitchen was fantastic and was beyond our expectations. The fireplace was cozy. The view outside the kitchen door was mesmerising and a joy to experience in all weather. Thank you for the great book selection and impeccable taste in decorating. Your home was greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
This place is unreal words and pictures can not do it justice. I just loved this place so much character and charm. I loved waking up to the ocean and mountains the views are spectacular. It had everything we needed and more. Our host Kathleen was always available to help us with anything we needed. Thank you Kathleen for sharing your beautiful home with us we will be back soon.
We enjoyed our Christmas stay at Youngs Cottage so much. It was exactly the traditional house that we hoped to experience. A trail along the coast is just down the field and leads all the way to Ballydavid head and the ruins on the hill. Everything worked well (bring a knife sharpener) and we were so cosy. Never felt the earth so fiercely alive as this place—life changing.
We really enjoyed our stay at Young's Cottage. The scenery around the Dingle Peninsula and Ring of Kerry is absolutely spectacular and there are some wonderful walks (not too difficult).
Coming home to the cottage each night was an absolute pleasure. It has a lovely atmosphere and everything we needed to make our stay convenient, comfortable and warm even when it was blowing a gale outside.
Our only suggestion is that WiFi be made available. No TV is fine, but convenient access to the Internet is becoming almost mandatory in today's world (especially for longer stays).
Otherwise a most enjoyable stay and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
The most breathtaking views in the dreamiest cottage
Had the best time at the Cottage for Other Voices. Kathleen was super attentive during our stay, and we had the coziest time while staying here. The house warms up quite quickly when the heating is turned on, the showers were consistently warm and the space was beautifully lit when the sun was shining. Every time you step outside the views get even more beautiful. A car is 100% necessary, and the cottage is quite far from Dingle if you're looking to stay here for Other Voices, but in general, would fully recommend this place if you are looking to stay in the Peninsula.
Only observations/comments - we couldn't find the outdoor bins, so we had to take our rubbish bags to our friends' house rental to dispose of them on the day of checkout, and one of the teapots was still filled with teabags from the previous visitors.
Very tasteful and personal cottage that makes you feel at home from the first moment. The house is very well equipped, and every single room has a comfortable and friendly atmosphere magnificent sights on sea and landscape.
We loved everything about our stay at Young's Cottage. While exploring the whole peninsular we saw amazing views at every turn. But at the end of each day, we both believe the best views were those from our front yard. The house had everything we needed, host were very responsive and we will be back to stay here again.
Young's Cottage was a nice escape and a good way to see the west. The cottage has a very homey feel to it and is quite cozy on wet or cold days, and we had a couple even in July! We had a couple clear days, though, and the views across the bay it faces over to the Three Sisters were beautiful then. The bathroom is very modern. Communication with our host was easy and made check-in a breeze. There's no wifi so be ready to disconnect from your technology or pack a good book!
We had a great time and love the house - it's a gorgeous place and never fails to delight us. On the bad weather days we were happy to stay in, knit and entertain ourselves. Thank you so much for letting us stay.

About the host
Hosted by Kathleen Dineen Young
I am originally from County Cork. I grew up in an irish speaking family and we spent our childhood holidays in West Kerry. I fell in love with the area and the cottage is now my family holiday home with my three sons. The area is an inspiration for me as a singer with the area`s rich irish traditional music culture.
Why they chose this property
The cottage is a unique location with total privacy and stunning uninterrupted views of Smerwich Harbour and the Atlantic ocean. Winter or summer, it is a beautiful warm, quiet and peaceful place to be.
What makes this property unique
It is a traditional house maintaining its original character with wooden beams and stone floors. There is a feeling of going back 100 years in time. For me it is the only place in the world where time stands still and one can forget all the stress of work and modern living.
