About this property
Idyllic and peaceful villa on Tuscan/Umbrian border
250 year old villa set in beautifully kept, spacious garden with big pool. The villa was originally a farmhouse with buildings for farm animals and a tower for drying tobacco. The three levels of the house show these different origins. The renovation was carried out to preserve the style of the Tuscan/Umbrian architecture and use of stone and bricks. The garden has been expertly landscaped across the hillside and is ideal for children to play. The garden is surrounded by several acres of terraces and woodland which belong to the property. The villa comprises a lower house with 3 bedrooms for six persons and an upper house with three bedrooms for up to seven persons. Prices are quoted for the lower house only, but additional persons up to a total of 13 can be comfortably accommodated. For each person in addition to the standard charge for the lower house there is a charge of € 35 per night per person in the high season. The villa whether only the lower house or both lower and upper house are only let together so that no family or group needs to share with other holidaymakers. There is thus complete privacy. Two big terraces (with stone BBQ) lead onto the garden on the south-east and west sides of the house. They are ideally placed for breakfast, lunch and dinner al fresco enjoying views over the countryside and setting sun in the evening. A big open-plan kitchen and living room with fireplace cover the lower ground floor. Central heating, TV, internet, washing machine in separate washroom, car port for up to three cars., all make for comfortable use of the villa throughout the year.

About the host
Hosted by Val Brooks
When I and my husband first saw Ca' della Santina, apart from its lovely name, House of the little Saint, our hearts sank looking at the ruins and the fallen trees and brambles in what was once its garden. But whether it was my husband's love affair with Italy (at least that's what he called it) or the magnificent site overlooking breathtaking scenery into Tuscany we took the plunge and decided to rebuild the 300 year old farmhouse in the local style, landscaping the garden and pool area to fit the hillside location. The stonemason, Domenico, who worked on the restoration became literally part of the house. He welcomes guests, offers them his wine, honey and eggs, and looks after the garden and pool with the ambition to make it the most beautiful property in the region. Una meraviglia!
Why they chose this property
Ca' della Santina's location is the ideal antidote to busy city life. Within minutes of arriving you will enjoy the calm & tranquil countryside location, interrupted only by the cicadas in the trees and lizards lounging in the sun. You can lie by the private pool or retire to the spacious and invitingly, cool house which is bordered by a beautifully landscaped garden and wooded hills and valley beyond. It's the ideal location for anywhere between 2-12 people. A holiday in Ca' della Santina means total relaxation and a chance to recharge your batteries!
What makes this property unique
Ca' della Santina is the complete package: spacious, traditionally furnished house, stunning gardens with a big private pool all set in beautiful wooded countryside. The idyllic setting which can be enjoyed from the morning and evening terraces will make it hard to leave the property. But if you want to venture out, you will be able to enjoy the bustle of street markets in medieval towns, take in the rich history of this area of Italy and enjoy the delicious food and wine this area has to offer.
