About this property
Historic Royal Kent cottage surrounded by large gardens & private swimming pool
Plantagenet Cottage is unique, charming and hidden away on the outskirts of a picturesque Kentish village. We're located within the beautiful Kent Downs area of outstanding natural beauty and the views from our garden overlook the Eastwell Manor Country Estate.
The cottage is steeped in History dating back to the 16th century when originally built as a one-room dwelling by Richard Plantagenet, a natural son of King Richard III [the one they found under the car park in Leicester], so our Richard was, in theory, the last in the bloodline of the Plantagenet Kings of England. It's a fascinating story and you will find books and other information about this at the cottage.
We are ideally suited to 6 people [possible 7th on pull out mattress] across 3 luxurious bedrooms - the entire detached property has been recently refurbished to a high standard providing all modern amenities and comfort whilst maintaining the cottage's rustic charm and historical character.
The large living area has 2 comfortable sofas, a 40" plasma smart TV with Netflix, Amazon / iPlayer etc. It also has a large inglenook fireplace with a new Wood Burning Stove - it's lovely having cozy log fires in colder months.
The dining area has a table seated for 6/7 people below a vaulted ceiling with a gothic arch looking out to the garden.
There is also an office space with network ports and printer and USB charging from most rooms.
The fully equipped kitchen has new appliances and hopefully everything you might need !
Our bathroom has a bath, rain shower, toilet and sink - and it has a cubby hole inside a recently exposed old fireplace.
The garden wraps around the property and has a park like feel with lots of well established trees & shrubs. Lots of space for kids to play .. we even have 'Teletubby' mounds! There is a BBQ, a swing and outside seating areas and new this year is a large in-ground trampoline, which is proving to be great fun for small and big kids too !
A definite highlight in warmer months is the outdoor heated swimming pool which is in a walled area in a sunny corner of the garden. POOL OPEN BETWEEN APRIL TO END OF SEPTEMBER - exact date is weather dependant. Hot-Tub available to hire on request.
Our cottage is in a delightful spot that we think has a lovely relaxed feeling and good atmosphere.

We had a wonderful holiday at the cottage. Leaving very relaxed and refreshed. Terrific hosts and the cottage is fantastic the owners have thought of everything.Have booked again for next year - looking forward to it!
Wonderful stay at the perfect cottage in a great location. Spacious holiday home with everything we needed for a great week!
Fully enclosed enormous garden, perfect for children and dogs. Hosts Tim & Maite were on hand for anything needed, highly recommend and will be back.
We had such a great time in this cottage, got very lucky with the weather so having a pool was brilliant and it's bigger than it looks in the photos and properly heated so really nice to be in. The garden is huge with lots of shady areas and seating and a great badminton court. Our 3 teenagers really enjoyed it, and the hot tub and outdoor shower were definitely a bonus.Beds are super comfy, the setting is very private and not overlooked at all, everything worked as expected, all in all a very stress free week and we'd definitely book again next year. Thank you Tim!
We had the most wonderful stay at this property. The house is just perfect for a family get away and so peaceful. The gardens are huge and the pool is just great! We didn’t leave our whole stay and had the most relaxing time ever! Hosts were lovely and very good communication. Highly recommend. :-)

Thanks for the lovely review Amy - we hope to see you again one day.
We really enjoyed our brief stay in this beautiful cottage. It had all the facilities needed, lovely interior designs and a wonderful garden - and pool! The location is good - easy access to local pub, or short drive to shops and amenities of a town - and everything that Kent has to offer. We managed to fit in, designer shopping, beach and Canterbury - plus lots of pool time.
This is our 4th or 5th stay at the cottage. We love it there so much! The cottage is beautiful ave has every amenity you could possibly need. The garden is extremely peaceful. The swimming pool is awesome, especially if you’re lucky enough to get great weather as we did during our stay. The hot tub and outdoor shower are brilliant! The location of Plantagenet is perfect. There’s lots of lovely places to walk and plenty of gorgeous restaurants. Tim is the perfect host and will do everything he can to ensure you have the most wonderful stay. I can’t recommend the cottage highly enough. It’s simply perfect.
Such a perfect venue for a girlie weekend. We were very lucky with the weather so got to spend the day around the pool. The cottage was perfect with everything we needed. We had the best time. Thank you Tim & Matie. I would highly recommend this cottage.
Tim&Maite’s Cottage is a really fantastic, peaceful and magical place!
The garden is extraordinary with more than enough space, the house is lovely and well arranged.
We have booked for next year the day after our first night here!
Many thanks to Tim & Maite, till next year!

Peter, it was such a pleasure to host you and your lovely family and we will be very happy to welcome you back next year :-)
We stayed here as a family of 5 with ages ranging from 7 to teens to 40 somethings. We all had the most amazing 6 nights and we were so sad when our time had come to an end.
The house, the garden, and the pool were incredible. We had some much needed quality family time and I would recommend this property without reservation, we had the most magical time.
My family and I were slightly hesitant about booking a cottage in the midst of winter but we all had the best time ever. The Cottage is gorgeous and the wood-burning stove made it super cosy, the kids adored playing on the trampoline for hours on end. We discovered some stunning countryside walks and forests and quaint old Kentish pubs serving amazing food - we all want to come back already. Really organised hosts too - thank you !
Beautiful house in stunning location.
Perfect peace and quiet but plenty to do if you want to, lots of walks and decent pubs, shopping in Ashford.
Nice touches for the kids with the mouse hunt and sheep box. We will be back. Thanks
What a fantastic house for a group of friends looking for a relaxing break away.
The house was beautiful and equipped with everything you could need. The garden was magical and the pool was an amazing addition to our stay.
The hosts were very attentive and available at anytime if you had any questions.
There is a lovely pub on the green a couple minutes walk away and the town of Wye is a 10 minute drive away, with lots of walking routes if you want to stretch your legs.
Thanks for having us, we look forward to our next visit!
Plantagenet Cottage is an amazing place to stay, lovely bedrooms (very comfy beds), a big garden with views of the sunset towards Eastwell Manor and a great private swimming pool. It’s such a tranquil location, perfect for relaxing by the pool or enjoying a barbecue in the garden. The cottage has been lovingly restored with great original features and everything you could need in the kitchen.
Tim is a great host, quick to respond to any questions, gave really clear instructions on how to find the cottage and checking we had everything we needed. The cottage was clean and tidy, with a lovely welcome basket on arrival - even including dog treats for my friend’s dog. I really can’t recommend highly enough!

Thanks for your wonderful words Alex - please come back another time.
We went away as a family, two young kids and couldn’t fault it. Very private and out of the way, with lots of stuff a short drive away, including Ashford shopping centre and town. The pool is huge with lots of toys and fun things to use, already at the cottage. Lovely swing, trampoline and other various toys and bits around and in the cottage. The pictures don’t do it justice, the garden is huge and be prepared to get your steps in walking around it! Inside the cottage is beautiful and really gives you the home feeling while being on holiday. The hosts were 100% perfect with great communication and extremely welcoming. From the start of the booking process to the checking out, it was stress free and so easy. We appreciate everything that was done and how easy it all was. Thank you so much for the amazing experience and hope to come back in a couple of years for longer!
We stayed at the Plantagenet cottage the night before my wedding with my bridesmaids and then with my husband for a complete get away. It was so special from start to finish! The cottage is hidden away from the real world, very peaceful. The garden is fantastic, with beautiful views out into the Eastwell manor grounds. Inside everything was clean and perfectly presented. So many original features and nods the older building with modern features to make cooking and relaxing nice and easy. Everything labelled clearly which is great, no confusion over keys, cupboards or lights.
Tim was just leaving when we arrived and it was a pleasure to meet before we unpacked and settled in. A few helpful tips with the pool which was great, we got straight in and it was absolutely divine!
I cannot fault our stay in any way, it was perfect. Thank you Tim and Maite.
Dear Tim & Maite,
we spent a very nice week in your beautiful cottage. House and garden are just great and very well kept. There is lots to do in the area. Thanks so much
This is a lovely house in a great location and comfortably fit the wife and I, my three young boys, the in-laws and their dog. It felt bigger than the pictures online which was great and the features within gave it real character. All was clean and ready for us with the owners communication great and overall very welcoming. The real highlight of this property though is the garden. While the enclosed pool was perfect, the best word to describe the garden is magical. You felt in your own little world and the kids and dog loved it especially. I would highly recommend this property and hope to return with both my family or with a group of friends. Thank you, Tim and family.
Our family loved this little hidden gem.
Restful and private, beautiful gardens and a property full of history and character.
Very clean and everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Beds were super comfy.
Had a lovely time staying at this cottage, the hosts have been great communicating and re-arranging our stay date due to lockdowns too. Felt like our own little space tucked away from everyone else with the massive garden and private pool area to enjoy. Beds were comfy too! Would definitely recommend.
Just spent a few days at this beautiful cottage. We had lovely weather so able to get the most out of spending time in the pool and wonderful garden. Great walk - just pop over the ladder. The cottage has everything you need and immaculately clean. Would love a return visit as lots to do round this area but could equally happy to just stay in the cottage.

About the host
Hosted by TIM & MAITE
We live in the suburbs of London with our two daughters. We like cooking and eating delicious food, sunshine, music, gardening, and being outdoors. It's great doing those things at our cottage when guests are not enjoying doing it there themselves !
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with the plot - its secluded, tucked away from the main road and you wouldn't even know its there, plus the amazing history of the cottage having been originally built by our royal heir to the throne Richard Plantagenet. Ashford is a thriving practical town which is handy to have nearby when venturing out of the peaceful / countryside vibe of our immediate area.
What makes this property unique
The hidden away location, the history, the private pool and the views over to Eastwell Manor are all unique benefits.
