Bright And Cozy Two Room Unit, Close To Beach And Sound -- Perfect For Two!
Located at Mile Post 6.5 in Kill Devil Hills, this unit is located on the ground level of a residential house. Set in a quiet family neighborhood, the unit is approximately 450 square feet and consists of a large bedroom with a comfortable queen bed, a sitting area with a recliner and an extra chair, a 32 inch HDTV with extended cable package and Blu-Ray player, and a large closet.
The front room has an apartment sized refrigerator, microwave oven, toaster oven, toaster, two coffee makers (Keurig and Mr. Coffee) with complimentary coffee, love seat, small drop leaf dining table with two small bar stools, basic cooking utensils and silverware, dinnerware for two, and a 19 inch television with Roku streaming stick. The Roku allows access to Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Videos, and many other popular streaming channels. We also provide an electric skillet and electric griddle for your use along with free WiFi.
PLEASE NOTE: The top floor of the house is also a vacation rental listed with VRBO (VRBO 1550878.). Until recently, we lived in the upstairs portion of the house and have since moved one mile up the beach. In the four years plus that we had lived above the unit, we never heard any excessive noise from the guests below and likewise they never commented on noise from above.
The unit is equipped with a newly installed dual zone mini-split heating/cooling system which is independent from the main house above.
Outside, guests have use of a gas grill with side burner, the outdoor shower with hot and cold water, a sitting area directly outside of the unit, and another sitting area with hammocks and a porch swing. You’ll have exclusive use of the sitting area (bistro table and two cushioned chairs) directly outside of your door while the grill, swing, hammock and shower are made available to upstairs guests as well.
We provide all linens, towels, two beach towels, and two beach chairs, a beach umbrella, two camping chairs, and a small cooler. In addition, we provide an iron and small ironing board, a hair dryer, and other essentials.
We are located less than two-tenths of a mile from a public boat ramp with oversized vehicle parking. Within three-tenths of a mile is a multi-use path that runs adjacent to the Sound (bay) – perfect for enjoying the picturesque Outer Banks sunsets or taking a leisurely stroll, jog, or bike ride. There are numerous restaurants, supermarkets, a movie-theater, and shopping facilities within a few miles. The nearest ocean access with free parking is approximately three quarters of a mile from the house. From there, there are numerous accesses up and down the beach road with free parking.
If you have a small child, the bedroom can accommodate a portable crib and if need be, we can provide a camping cot with mattress.
Please note, while we are pet lovers ourselves, we simply do not allow pets/animals of any kind in the unit, both downstairs and upstairs. No exceptions, sorry.
Within a week of your arrival, we will provide you detailed access instructions to make contactless check-in as easy and painless as possible. Once you arrive, you will find a notebook binder with more information on how to access the wireless, how to operate the television sets, some local insights on good restaurants and attractions, and so forth.
Checking out is just as simple. We don’t have any specific requirements other than to leave the unit in good condition, the same way you would like to find it if it was yours.

Beautiful accommodations, very well decorated and very comfortable. We had adult children stay here for a family visit, and they highly recommend this apartment for 2 and the gracious hosts were wonderful to work with. Highly recommend this for a quiet OBX stay
“the recess” was a perfect place for our first couples vacation, the owners were so accommodating and nice. even with people staying upstairs it was quiet and we had nice evenings. i would definitely come stay here again:)

Recess was the perfect place for our week getaway! The property was very clean and the hospitality was superb! We will definitely revisit it the future.
Had a wonderful time, great location, very clean and even had a hand written note with some salt water taffy when you arrived which shows the owner care about your stay.
Mini splits used for heating and cooling made it very easy to control room temperatures. Bay side paved walkway for morning walks was close by. Host was great!
This place was fantastic!! It was spotless when we arrived! Went away to the outerbanks for the first time and our first impression of OBX could not have been better! This place had everything we needed!! It was a super plus that the grill outside had a stove top as we were able to order a seafood boil pot and steam it at the place! Will definitely come back!
Our stay was amazing! This cozy cottage had everything we needed for a weekend getaway and was clean, well prepared and absolutely lovely! We enjoyed every minute of it.
My husband and I really enjoyed staying at Mike and Marys ground unit. It had everything we needed: comfortable bed, outdoor seating areas and close to the beach and shops! We also got to meet Mike and Mary and they were very nice and accommodating. We will definitely be back :)
