Loving Kauai

This is our 5th time back to the island. Our trip was for celebrating our daughters wedding. There were several parties with us of which 2 groups stayed at the Plantation. The ability to be close with the others was perfect. North shore is our favorite and when we return again in a couple years, the Plantation will be first of choice for accommodations.

Mahalo, Mark. As indicated in our listing, as with most homes on Kauaʻi this one is not air conditioned. We rely on open windows and fans to circulate the breezes. When visiting the tropics in the summer, always verify whether the home is air conditioned if that's what you require.

Perfect condo in Princeville

Great condo! Nice layout with two separated bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms. Washer and dryer and enclosed garage were nice to have. Dishwasher was challenging to use. It did work for us but then didn’t after that one time and just guessing that we didn’t press the buttons in the right sequence or something like that. The development the condo is in is nice and quiet and is located close to the gym and pool/bbq area but the pool water temp felt to cold for us to enjoy. The hot tub was nice.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My number one concern is always the cleanliness of where we stay. Immediately upon entering I could tell it was very clean. Except the carpet. It was clean but very stained. Which was fine but I hope they replace the carpet soon, maybe with a darker color. We did have an issue with the dryer not drying well. When I contacted them about it they were quick to respond and had a repair man there the next day. At least I think they did because the dryer never worked any better, we just learned to add lots of extra drying time for our clothes. But, that was really our only issue during our stay. The location was great and the provided amenities were perfect. We even had enough pots and pans to cook our Thanksgiving dinner. There were plenty of towels, a cooler, beach chairs and some beach toys. It was nice to have a garage to park in as well. Overall it was a fantastic place to stay and I would recommend it.

Just Ok

We stayed at the beginning of August. I agreed with one of the other reviewer. The property needs some updating. A few items were not in working condition. My biggest issue was the Air conditioning. Yes I read the property description and it stated clearly that like other property in Kauai, the unit does not have AC. I find that to be untrue. The unit itself does have a AC unit, but for some reason, perhaps it is not working and owner doesnt want to fix it, it was not available to rental. There are plenty of other properties in Kauai that offers AC unit. Our two other groups who rented other properties in Kauai had AC and their rental price was alot lower than what we paid for at this property. We didnt think it was a problem at first but we were wrong. It was very unpleasant to walk in a humid, stuffy house after a day of hiking/outing and having to quickly open up 10 windows to get some air in. And it is also a hassle to make sure all 10 windows are closed and locked when we leave the house each morning. On top of that, leaving the windows open at night to hear the next door AC going off and on in the middle of the night is another problem. It's not extremely loud, but its loud enough to wake you up and wonder what the noise is. Then there are the early birds who wakes up early to get an head start on their days, you'll be hearing them get in the car, start the car and drive off. Now on to property management - they are quick to response but that's pretty much it. We reported that the front screen door was broken and right away they responded, but no repairman was done, even after the 7 days we were there. Same thing with the garage door not opening, yes there's a attached garage but door doesnt open. The toilet handle was broken one night and it took them 48 hours to fix, leaving 7 of us sharing one toilet. The shower head in the master was slow dripping, master bed is lumpy, bed sheet were worn out and rough, kitchen is bare minimal. No ingredients. Be prepare and buy all your ingredients like salt, pepper, sugar, oil, etc. Most rental places we rented before include some of these ingredients. Cleanliness -- upon check in, there were sands in the kitchen, rather than wait , we took out the vacuum and took care of it asap. With all these issues, I would not recommend this place until these are resolved. Other properties in the area are less expensive and offer more. Sometime perfect pictures aren't as perfect.

Aloha Joanne, and mahalo for taking the time to write a review. As you noted, you were aware before booking that the home had no air conditioning. As also noted, very few homes on Kauaʻi have air conditioning. Other homes in different locations and different sizes will be priced differently, and some are much higher priced. Our prices are consistent with competing properties. The home is a condominium, so there will be other occupants nearby. After our maintenance worker visited regarding the screen door, we informed you that the door was a specialty item, and that due to having to order parts from the mainland it could not be fixed during your stay. We have since replaced it. Contrary to your claim, the garage door does indeed function; you told us that you wanted a remote control to operate it, which we declined. You reported the toilet handle after hours and we sent someone to fix it the next day. You did not inform us that the shower had a drip, but we would have repaired that for you. We cannot supply any food items for sanitary reasons in our tropical climate, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. We apologize that you found sand in the home when you arrived. The home had been inspected prior to your arrival and no sand was noted at the time.

Plantation at Princeville

Very comfortable townhouse. Plenty of room for the four us. Made good use of the kitchen and Bar-B-Q facilities, pool and spa. Close to the Princeville Center for any shopping needs. Great base to see the entire island. Can walk to the beach. A bit more than a mile to the beach at the Princeville Hotel which is under renovation. Parking super convenient with a drive-in garage and remote opener. And our boys made good use of the gym.

Nice location in Princeville, okay condo.

This condo has an over all good lay out and plenty of space to feel comfortable, we enjoyed the four sliding doors to allow plenty of air movement as there was a usage charge for the AC. You could tell that the condo is used for rental purposes only, which is fine but it is a "tired" property that is in need of sprucing up. The unit could use a good thorough cleaning as there was literally egg shells on the kitchen floor that also felt greasy/sticky. Dishes in no organized manner in the cupboards were half clean leading me to clean dishes before and after using them. The bed in the master room was well used too, I felt like laying in a hole. The shower head in the master bathroom wasn't working properly and was like using a garden hose. Over all it was an okay unit that could use some cleaning and replacement of worn items. I do believe there are other properties that are better appointed for the same price point.

Mostly ok, but with some issues

Overall, a decent property and location. But the A/C does not actually cool the unit. It just blows hot air even though the wall control indicates "Cool". Contacted management and they sent a guy over to look at it and he confirmed no cooling happening but nothing much done since we said to forget it. Luckily we were there during a cool period, gone most of the day, and open windows were enough in the evening to be comfortable. Also, privacy is not the best. There are other units right behind and to the side that have direct views into most of the unit. So blinds have to be closed for any privacy. No views at all to speak of anyway. No walk-in showers, only deep tubs that could be difficult for some to enter/exit. No problem for us, but elderly or people with some physical issues it would be trouble. And the Plantation complex is getting a bit dated, several newer properties in the area. So again, not bad but there are better in the Princeville area for the same or lower cost.

Great condo that fits s big family perfectly!

This is by far the best place to stay for the price on Kauai. We are a family of 6 and brought the grandparents with us, and we had plenty of room! We appreciated the beach stuff stocked in the garage and everyone we worked with were helpful and professional.

Spacious condo

Spacious, clean and close to amenities! Would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking to explore the north shore of Kauai. Stayed here for 5 days with our family of 2 adults and 3 kids and wished we had more days here before heading to Maui. We'll have to come back! Yes the air conditioner did not cool the kids' room very well but using the two fans provided moved the cool air in there quickly. Also found the rules at the pool as being fairly strict but understandable as this complex has full time residents as well as vacationers.

Great condo for family vacation

The location of the resort was great. Close to a grocery to store, and to many beaches. The Condo was very clean, comfortable, and true to the photos of it. It was great to have air-conditioning - would have been even better if the second bedroom also had air-conditioning. Great that there was a dishwasher, but it would be nice if more than three dishwasher packs were provided for a one-week stay. Considering the high standard of the condo / resort area, we were surprised that the water pressure was so extremely low. (And the shower heads didn't help the matter). Would definitely recommend this condo.

I’m somewhat surprised that you needed the air conditioner during your stay since the weather has been cool, especially at night! It’s very rare to find air conditioning in homes on Kauai since the mild climate and trade winds generally keep the air comfortable. As a courtesy we provide a starter kit of cleaning supplies in all rental units, whether guests stay for three days or three months. As it’s a rental unit, we expect our guests to purchase what they need during their stay, since we can’t anticipate individual usage and product preferences. We will notify the unit’s owner about the low water pressure. There are water conservation rules, but there might be a maintenance issue that needs to be addressed.
