We agree that this is probably the best deal in the area. It has a private bathroom, kitchenette, high speed dependable wifi, air-conditioning and 2 comfortable beds. Not to mention that it’s walking distance to Kehena Black sand beach and the drum circle on Sundays.
Nice little apartment, it had everything that we needed. It's in a very quiet area and the hosts are lovely who gave us loads of useful information about the local area.

We try very hard to help our guests have the best stay ever and it’s our goal to continue getting 5 star reviews like this. ❤️
Yes, we strive for perfection and we really think it’s the best deal in the area. You even have your own bathroom w/ shower in your own private room. Not outside like others in the area.
Enjoyed this stay very much; good area near me son and his family in Pahoa; bohemian area, near black sand beach; small but perfect size, well appointed.
Coffee on the deck in the mornings was great, great dark sky area, lush, green, comfortable.
Will definitely return here!

This is an accurate representation of our cozy studio. It is PERFECT for two people on a budget looking for a great price for their money. The studio CAN sleep 3, maybe 4. Keep in mind it has two double beds.
We visited the area with the main purpose of attending Uncle Robert’s Night Market, and this location was very convenient for that. The correspondence from the hosts was very detailed and instructions for getting there and checking in were very detailed and helpful. The WiFi was excellent. We spent the next morning exploring the beautiful vistas along the Red Road, and this was an excellent location for that as well. Would definitely recommend.

We love reviews like this because it is ‘ so true’. Puna is so uniquely beautiful and the studio is of great value. The best deal in the area.
It’s a nice place, beach is accessible within a min drive. Night sky is beautiful because of less light pollution. Make sure to check out the restaurant down the road, not sure about dinner timings but for breakfast Acai is good.
Great host, only suggestion for host is to limit instructions to one pager instead of multiple locations around the house :)

Cute, quaint, and quiet
I loved my time here even if it was a little quirky. Things like washing dishes in the bathroom sink and having to flip the breaker a couple times when I cooked made some great memories of my time there. It was so peacefull and easy to access local points of interest. The host, Andre was positive and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.
A nice place away from the usual tourist locations
Wanted to stay somewhere interesting and this was it. The room itself is completely normal but the area around it is not. Room about size of of decent sized living room with two beds, kitchen with attached private bathroom. Just a few minutes from a black sand beach. Sky was dark enough to see the milky way at night if that gives you an idea of how out of way it is. Nothing by the sounds of the birds to wake up to. Feels like you get to experience a more local version of Hawai'i. Nearest town about 20-30 min car drive where there are multiple dining options. Just don't make the mistake we did and have an 8 am flight out of Kona. Easy drive, but makes for a very early morning.

There actually is a store w/ deli at the end of the oceanfront road called the Kaimu Corner Store. There is a famous outdoor Hawaiian Bar called ‘ Uncle Roberts which has live music on Wednesdays. In addition, there is an another little place that sells food, ice cream about 5 minutes away called Kalani. All these are listed on an info sheet located in the unit but you must read it. Hawaii does not really have many signs or lights at all so it’s quite different than most city dwellers are used to 😊

like a small apartment retrofit in a two-story house
Quiet neighborhood of single-family homes nearby. Somewhat noisy a/c greeted us on a warm, pleasant mid-afternoon. Fortunately night was cool (mid-November) so we could turn off the a/c and open the lanai door and main room little window for peaceful, cool Hawaiian air once the sun went down. Never needed that a/c again, stayed cool enough til check-out time. The lack of a kitchen sink of ANY size was a real inconvenience, as we brought our food with us. Using the bathroom sink for food ware was a problem (think-food scraps in a bathroom sink). The apartment was clean, the two double beds lightweight but actually comfortable. It was OK for the simple overnight and short lazy morning hours we stayed there. Wouldn't choose this particular unit for 3 or more nights unless I were going be out all day long most days, because it's not the kind of vacation place one would typically lay around and chill in.

This studio is a great value for the price considering what else is available at higher prices. The air conditioning is brand new and that's how air conditioners sound. The bathroom sink is made to handle dishes and has been used for years. The studio is not retrofit and was designed and built when the building was created. We have had numerous people that have stayed 1-2 months and absolutely loved it. Folks, there are people out there that look for the cheapest place they can find and then complain about the place that they chose. This private studio has a new large refrigerator, large screen TV, new table and chairs and is very clean.
If this tenant was expecting more, he was very misguided.

Did not stay due to communication issues.
Property owner asked us to contact him via phone prior to arrival due to no cell reception near the property. We tried 2 different numbers and also texting. No response. We waited for a response and then drove to the property thinking he might meet us there when we had no response. No one around that we could see. It had been a very long day and not being able to reach owner, we decided to return to Kona. The owner contacted us approximately 30 minutes after we started our trip back to Kona. At that point, we were not willing to turn around and go back. We did ask for a refund and was told that he considered us a no show and there would be no refund. Very frustrating considering the circumstances of not being able to communicate with him in a timely manner. We had plans to explore the area more and was very dissappointed that we were unable to. Suggestion - Using a lock box with the keys instead of relying on meeting guests after they call to let them into the property.

Now hear our side. We were there to greet her because we were expecting her around 4pm but when she didn’t see anyone outside, she immediately left without bothering to knock on the door or honk her horn to see if we were there. We were so surprised because nobody has ever did this before. She appeared to do a quick drive by and immediately left. This has never happened before and we have been renting the studio to hundreds of guests since 2009. We thought it was so strange of her to do this.

Clean, great price
Nice small studio, clean and you can't beat the price especially during the high season. But, just be aware, you get what you pay for and not in any bad sense, its just pretty small and despite there being a toaster and microwave there are no other cooking facilities. There is a nice big fridge which is really a good perk for all your beverages! Don't count on doing anything other than warming a cup of coffee up because there is next to no counter space and the only sink is in the bathroom. The trash cans are also tiny, like mini bathroom size so plan on taking your trash to the dump down the road when its open. I have always had a kitchen or at the least a BBQ or hot plate so having none of that is pretty tough especially when the closest food is at the Kaimu Store (limited deli) or back in Pahoa. Kalanai is right next door but I have found that they are less welcoming than they use to be.
About the BBQ, its a charcoal stone thing that looks like it hasnt been used in years, its also very close to the parking for the owner, I don't think I'd be comfortable using it.
You do have a small lanai with a chair that definitely gets most of the sun all day so that is nice, otherwise the front lanai (common area) is covered so if you like shade, its good.
The A/C works sometimes. It always sounds like its has a lot of water inside of it and is struggling to overcome that. If you open up the windows you wont need A/C at night, its nice and breezy but when I checked in I was told to keep the windows and sliding door shut to keep bugs out. Hawaii isn't particularly buggy and I didn't see many bugs, only gekkos. Anyway, I think if you go in not planning on cooking and know that this is a small space in a big house with three rentals inside......its fine. The addition of a sink would make a big difference, its not easy washing plates and cups in the bathroom sink.
**Bring cuttlery, there is none. There is however other cooking/serving utensils, plenty of them which is odd since you can't cook anything.
Overall, enjoy the value and enjoy Puna!

It's amazing that this guest didn't find the hot plates or cutlery that he said wasn't there.
He didn't even ask to use a gas barbecue in the garage. It's brand new and ready to go. We never got any calls or requests from this person at all. The rock barbecue was actually used a couple weeks ago by a family who had no issues at all. Can't understand why he was afraid to use it - nobody else was.
Not sure why he complained about the size of the place when he paid a very reasonable rate. You can't find a private place this size w/ air conditioning for $60'ish a night.
The air conditioner works fine. It's less than 6 months old. Nobody else complained about it.
The studio sleeps up to 4 and he was by himself so I'm not sure how much more room he expected at the price he paid.
The poor guy even complained about Kalani . Sounds like a very unhappy guy in general.
I wish we could have stayed another week! The room was great, perfectly dark for sleeping and lots of pillows. The guides posted around the room were helpful in planning our day. Instructions for getting to the property were clear. Would stay again
Private room with bathroom and kitchen in super nice location and neighbourhood
Overall we had a very pleasant stay at Susan and Andre’s. The house lies in a very interesting and lush green neighbourhood with unique buildings and people around. It captures the essence of the Puna area very well.
In total there were (we think) 3 properties inside the house, which could be rented out. We found our room had everything we needed, a nice balcony and porch and a nice view over the neighbourhood. Although we found the interior design of the flat a bit old fashioned and despite that with an infant, 2 adults and luggage one room was maybe a bit small, price-wise it was a very good value for money in the area. We missed some essentials on the first day of our stay but the host went more than out of her way to provide them as fast as possible. Super!
The place is at an ideal location. Only 5 min from Kehena beach (a stunningly beautiful black beach, where close by you could do your laundry in the beach bungalows the hosts also own), 25 min from Pahoa, 1h from Hilo, 11 min from the new hot springs and 1h from Volcano National Park it was at perfect location to explore Puna and Hilo (and if we had more time also parts of the Hamakua coast) without driving too much. And to also live surrounded by recent lava gave the place a huge plus.
We really enjoyed!
This property was great for our trip around the island. We stayed here since Volcano National Park was 20 minutes away. I didn't expect to find the best beach in the world just down the street. Black sand beach with thermal pools. It had everything we needed including air conditioning. Just minutes away from the ocean. Will definitely stay here again and for longer. Very clean rental and it had all we needed. Loved it!!!!
Great little place - as expected and would return.
Location for me was perfect as i was working just a few blocks away. internet was fast enough. Plenty of space and the basics were there. nice fridge =. beds were comfy. enjoy your stay in Seaview!
This is a nice location away from all the crowds of the cities
This rental had all the amenities and everything else you might want. The property owner and manager were both very helpful with local attractions and warnings of things to watch out for. I would recommend staying here as we had an amazing time with a breakfast on the porch every morning to start our adventures.
Thankful for the AC. The bathroom does get pretty warm due to the open window but if the door is closed it stays nice and cool. The only thing that was a little odd was in the fridge was someone's leftover rice and salad. Which did not affect us just a little odd. Overall great experience and I would definitely stay again! Mila was very sweet in explaining where everything was when showing us our room!
Leider nutzten wir diese Unterkunft nur eine Nacht. Wir fühlten uns sehr wohl und wären gern länger geblieben. Eine sehr saubere und sehr praktisch eingerichtete Unterkunft.

About the host
Hosted by Andre and Susan
Me and my husband both worked in the medical field and have retired. We manage 5 rentals full time and really enjoy it. It's the best job that we have ever had.
Why they chose this property
This property is off the Red Road in Puna, near Kehena Beach and Kapoho. It's a great home base in this beautiful coastal area. The weather is dryer here than Hilo- yet the area remains green.
What makes this property unique
We get to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the island.
