This quaint Riverview Cabin is located along State Highway 96 that is along the Scenic River Road, two miles north of Hamilton (on Mimosa Hill), Illinois or 10 miles south of historic Nauvoo, Illinois. The Cozy Cabin offers unique charm and quirks since it was built in 1901, primarily as a fishing cabin. This cabin is naturally rustic.
DESCRIPTION of LOCATION:
The views from this cabin offer views of the Mississippi River, gorgeous sunsets, eagles soaring, pelicans bobbing along, and other water wildlife. Barges cruise up and down the river on a regular basis, as well as river boats, and fishing boats. Trains rumble along the Iowa side of the river at different times. The lily pads add to the canvas and begin to bloom a lotus shaped bloom in mid-summer.
There is a wide variety of features around the cabin and in the neighboring areas to take advantage of. Bring your fishing poles and visit the Illinois DNR website to gain a fishing license and try out some of the local fishing hot spots. Geode hunting is a favorite pastime for locals and visitors. Nauvoo offers historical adventures throughout much of the spring, summer, and fall months. Neighboring towns like Hamilton, Carthage, and Keokuk also have charm, shopping, tourism opportunities, and modern conveniences.
Outside the Riverview Cabin you can enjoy the swing while you take in the river views. Explore and revel in the blooming flower gardens around the cabin. Sit out on the secluded patio that backs up to tall mature trees and appreciate the fire ring. Other wild birds can be viewed and watched from the picnic table while BBQing. The tranquility of nature is all around the cabin. Eagles may land in the trees to eat a fish. Squirrels scurry up to the canopy of the trees. A deer or a family of deer may wander by unexpectedly.
There is a rest area that is walking distance from the Riverview Cabin. The mowed areas just across the road from the cabin are state owned and can be utilized as a picnic spot, area to play, or spend time exploring. There are other areas like this along this scenic highway, too.
CABIN FEATURES:
When you visit the Riverview Cabin, you will enter the front door into the living room. The living room faces the Mississippi River and provides a lovely view, even on a rainy day. There is a TV and DVD player, sofa with recliners at each end, another recliner, and a glider. There are DVD's at the cabin for your viewing. The TV offers some local channels only.
The dining room offers a table with four chairs and there are a few extra available that can be pulled up. There is neat, framed art on the walls that provide some history and information. For anyone with young children, there is a booster seat, games, books, and a few toys available. You can also enjoy the river view from the dining room, too.
The kitchen has a double sink, electric stove, microwave, toaster, crockpot, coffee maker, small refrigerator with freezer, some dishes, cooking utensils, and other basic kitchen items. The complete kitchen is at the back of the cabin and offers a door that leads to the patio. That is where you will find the BBQ grill and additional seating.
There is only one bedroom, and it is located just off of the dining room. There is no "bedroom door". The bedroom offers a queen-sized bed, closet space, and dresser. There are windows that can provide you with a view of the river and views of the timber.
The one and only bathroom entrance is through the bedroom. It offers a shower, toilet, pedestal sink, and counter. The water supply comes from a rural water treatment facility. We no longer have the well water. There are towels, washcloths, hair dryer, and other items to use.

About the host
Hosted by Julie Weber

Welcome! I'm Julie and I live just up the driveway from the cabin. My Dad built the home I live in, and I grew up on this hill. As you can see from the cabin, I love flowers and enjoy that as one of my many past times.
Since I am a local, I feel that I am a good resource for some of the local happenings in the area. Feel free to contact me. I might know of special events and activities in the area that are happening during the time of your stay.
Being a property owner to the cabin has been an adventure. The cabin has its unique personality that isn't necessarily fitting to each person. However, those who have stayed have seemed to enjoy its charm. It is also nice to meet many of the guests who choose to stay.
I am happy to accommodate some requests. My hope is that you enjoy the views of the Mississippi River and can disconnect from the hustle of the modern day. Sometimes we just need that break!

Why they chose this property
This is a nature-lovers dream, in my opinion. The neighbors are quiet, but kind. The ever-changing river throughout the seasons create different views to enjoy. And, you never know if you will see the "most beautiful" sunset. This area was my childhood home and I loved it then and love it now. The charm mixed with the nature is very enjoyable to me and I hope it is to others as well.
What makes this property unique
The cabin has been standing since 1901...that alone is amazing to me. This property has more room inside than you would think. Despite some of the uneven floors and lower ceilings, the cabin is not on a rustic level, but it also isn't like a brand-new build with all the modern bells and whistles.
Overall, the view from this Cozy Cabin is amazing. From the Mississippi River to the birds and other wildlife in the area it can be seen from the living room. Romantic sunsets can be enjoyed often. Not everyplace has these views!
