This house is so fun! It might be the best place to stay when visiting Nauvoo. It’s an old, old home that really gives a sense for how folks lived in the 1800s.

Thank you very much for the kind words. I wish you could have stayed longer.
We had a wonderful anniversary trip to Nauvoo. The historic and quaint Mix House added some period charm to our stay. While the house retains much of its 19th century charm, it has the modern conveniences needed for a relaxing stay. It may have been the off season, but food and meal choices were limited in Nauvoo itself. We were grateful for the items we ordered from The Apron Bake Shoppe.
We were four mid-seventies women. We requested 4 beds. In the pictures, it appeared that there was a queen size bed and 3 single beds. The one bed was a junior bed. There was a blow-up bed that had to be brought downstairs. It was a lovely old house, but not really age appropriate for us. There were throw rugs throughout the house, which was a tripping hazard. We found it difficult to find outlets to charge our phones, tablets and watches and the coffee pot. The notes were very helpful. We were a little concerned when it mentioned rodents. Luckily, we didn't see any. Overall, it was a charming house and we appreciated the antiques.
We loved staying at the Mix House! It’s close to all the things to do in Nauvoo. Our children loved exploring the property and playing out in the yard. It was perfect for our little family.
This property was perfect for the added "step back in time" experience we were seeking. The home and property allowed us to explore and experience a simple lifestyle and the ability to gather as family for mealtimes when we wanted to stay in for breakfast and dinner. It is close to the historical parts of Nauvoo, making it easy and quick to see the many sites and tours available.

Thank you so much for your kindness. We loved the notes that your children wrote in the guest log, they were very sweet.
Nauvoo was a mid point ti meet a family member and continue work on our family tree. The historical site was the main reason we chose Nauvoo. A little search on Vrbo, we found a historic home to stay in. What a treat! The rental was beyond the price point we usually seek but the home was the cherry on top of a wonderful visit. Very nice property
The property was exactly as listed. This property is immaculate. I love the fact that you can look up on the 2nd floor and see the original rafters. There are some quirks such as no electrical outlets in the downstairs bathroom, (or that I saw easily) However I would stay again. This home is close to 200 years old and in amazing condition, just beautiful! The hosts were responsive when needed! Super comfy beds as well.

Thanksgiving vacation
What a wonderful place to enjoy a family get away. We have six kids under the age of 14 and this house accommodated us perfectly. The master bed is so comfortable and the bedding extremely beautiful for that time period. The kids loved asking questions about all the antiques. Nancy was very prompt in answering our questions and even sending stuff back to us that we accidentally forgot. We hope to return again next year.

Thank you very much for you kind words. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Your sons Teddy bear will back to him soon. Thank you again for choosing the Nauvoo Mix House for your stay in Nauvoo.
We absolutely loved staying in this pioneer house decorated with antiques. It was a very unique experience and my kids thought it was so fun. The modern kitchen and bath amenities and A/C made it very comfortable. The host was responsive and helpful. The only suggestion I have is to change the number of people it sleeps to 5 - two in the master and three in the kids room. If you count the couch downstairs or the blowup mattress or the cot then you could say 6 but I think that would be the max. The little bed in the hall would only work for a toddler.

Definitely a historical home
The Mix House is a well-done restored historical home giving the 1846 house modern conveniences of AC, kitchen appliances, and nice bathrooms. It definitely added to the pioneer experience to actually stay in a home like this while touring Nauvoo. The location is beautiful and not too far away from historical Nauvoo. However, just to note, we had 7 people in our family and it was a little cramped. There are only 5 spots in real beds. And the bedrooms don't have very much extra space for cots and luggage. Also, the wifi never worked for us. We tried on multiple devices and asked Nancy about it but it was non existent for us. All in all, we enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful historical home
First off, Nancy and Lon (the owners) were beyond kind and helpful. Lon took us on a personal tour of the house, and told us all about its history. Nancy shared produce from her garden as well as some ingredients we needed.
The house is furnished with antiques, and is very old. One of my daughters was over the moon with all the furnishings, dishes, it's location in the country, etc. Another daughter was bugged by the squeaky floors, spiders, inconvenient light switches, lack of a dishwasher, and lack of wifi.
So it depends on what type of person you are. Personally I thought it was wonderful for a few days, I enjoyed the distraction-free time with my family, and loved sitting on the swing in the front yard at night watching the fireflies.
Just a few things I wish I had known-- there is wifi, but it is pretty spotty. I was never able to connect. There is no grocery store in town. The closest store is 20+ minutes away. And there are a few dining options in town, but not many. So bring everything you need. There is a Walmart in Keokuk, about 30 minutes away. There is no dishwasher, so bring paper products or be prepared to wash all your dishes by hand. There is a place in town that does takeout pizza that's supposedly good. We heard that cell phone coverage is spotty unless you have Verizon (which we do, and we never had a problem).

Thank you Keri for your kind words and input. It was nice to have you and your family as our guests.
We had a great time with our family for the weekend. The ambiance really adds some authenticity to the historic Nauvoo experience. The old quirks of the house are part of the adventure. The owners were very helpful!
