The Space:

Mountain Hideaway is a Victorian mansion on seven city lots in Leadville, Colorado — 1 block from Main Street. The home has 9 bedrooms, 9.5 bathrooms, and sleeps 18 guests across king and queen beds, each room with its own smart TV.

Listed with @BookTraverse

The main living area is open-concept with a pool table (converts to dining), poker/game table (also converts to dining), 65-inch HDTV, and a quality stereo system. Between the convertible tables and kitchen counter seating, there's dining space for the full group.

The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances, a gas range, and enough counter and storage space for group cooking. Kitchen counter seating for four.

The spa area includes a private outdoor hot tub and a 4-person infrared sauna with complimentary tea and yoga mats. The fitness area has Bowflex adjustable weights with bench and kettlebells.

Outside: fenced yard, BBQ grill, multiple decks with mountain views.

Connectivity: 1 Gbps internet (verified) — enough bandwidth for the entire group to stream, video call, and work simultaneously. Every bedroom has a TCL Smart TV.

2 Tesla EV charging stations — free for all guests.

Portable AC unit in the main living room. Bedrooms do not have AC — at 10,152 ft elevation, Leadville rarely needs it, even in summer. Nights are cool year-round.

In-unit washer/dryer available upstairs.

3 PROS:

→ Space: 9 bedrooms on seven city lots — rare for a group property this close to downtown

→ Location: 1 block to Main Street, walkable to restaurants, bars, and shops — no car needed in town

→ Amenities: Hot tub, sauna, pool table, game table, gym, EV chargers, 1 Gbps WiFi — everything under one roof

2 CONS:

→ No central AC: Portable unit in the living room only. At 10,152 ft, most summer days stay comfortable, but bedrooms can warm up on hot afternoons. Fans available on request.

→ Basement tenant: A tenant lives in the basement apartment with a separate entrance. The basement is not accessible to guests. The tenant keeps to himself and guests rarely notice.

Guest Access:

The entire home is yours — make yourself at home. Kitchen, living room, game room, spa, hot tub, decks, and yard are all accessible.

Self check-in via smart lock. Your code is in the digital guidebook sent before arrival.

The basement is not accessible — it's a separate apartment with its own entrance.

Laundry: washer/dryer located upstairs near the Yosemite room.

Parking: free on-street parking. Plenty of room for large groups with multiple vehicles.

The Neighborhood:

Mountain Hideaway sits on a quiet, tree-lined street 1 block from Harrison Avenue — Leadville's Main Street. The property is on seven city lots with a fenced yard and mountain views, but everything downtown is a 1-minute walk.

Leadville is Colorado's highest incorporated city at 10,152 ft, surrounded by Mt. Elbert (14,439 ft) and Mt. Massive (14,428 ft) — the state's two tallest peaks. The town is small, authentic, and walkable — independent restaurants, historic bars, local shops, and year-round outdoor access.

» 5min walk ➔ Mineral Belt Trail (12-mile paved loop)

» 12min drive ➔ Turquoise Lake

» 15min drive ➔ Ski Cooper

» 25min drive ➔ Copper Mountain Ski Resort

» 26min drive ➔ Mt. Elbert Trailhead (CO's tallest peak)

» 47min drive ➔ Vail Ski Resort

Walking distance: Silver Dollar Saloon, High Mountain Pies, City on a Hill Coffee, Quincy's Steak & Spirits, National Mining Hall of Fame, Leadville Heritage Museum, and the Mineral Belt Trail.

Winter: Ski Cooper (15 min), Copper Mountain (25 min), Vail (47 min), snowshoeing, cross-country skiing.

Summer: 14er trailheads, Turquoise Lake for fishing and paddling, Colorado Trail access, Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway.

Year-round: Leadville Race Series, brewery tours, historic walking tours, Twin Lakes.

Getting Around:

You'll want a car for day trips — ski resorts, trailheads, and lakes require driving. But downtown Leadville is a 1-minute walk from Mountain Hideaway. No car needed for restaurants, bars, and shops.

From Denver (DEN): ~2hr drive via I-70 W to Hwy 91 S. Route crosses Fremont Pass (11,318 ft) — check cotrip.org in winter. AWD/4WD or chains recommended Nov–Apr.

From Eagle/Vail (EGE): ~1hr drive, fewer mountain passes.

Rideshare: limited availability in Leadville. Do not rely on Uber/Lyft.

Parking: free on-street at the property. Room for multiple vehicles.

EV drivers: 2 Tesla EV chargers on-site, free for guests.

Great spot for our group. We were able to walk around Leadville without worrying about driving anywhere. The house worked well for our size too with a separate bedroom for each couple and the kids had their own privacy as well in the upstairs rooms. Everyone enjoyed the hot tub after the long day and good times were had.

Family reu ion

We had a group of couples and singles totaling 16 adults. A lot of bed options for couples, but got a little tricky for the singles. Bedrooms are spacious, and comfy. Great space for a family reunion. We played corn hole (we brought), relaxed in hot tub, played pool, made large meals we cooked, and danced and sang and laughed till my cheeks hurt. Great place to all be together with rooms that are far enough way from the shenanigans when you want quiet time.

Beautiful old style home with all amenities!

11 of us came to climb Mt Elbert and did it. Loved the small town feel Leadville has. Construction caused detours near the house but instructions to navigate around that were provided in time. Pretty convenient location. Old Western town feeling! Very well managed property! Thanks

Satisfied with our stay

The house comfortably fit our large group of adults, kids, and babies. Everything was as advertised. Location was convenient to get to Copper (20-30 minute drive). Communication with the hosts was great - they provides us with a crab for a baby that we asked for. One thing to be aware is that Leadville is at 10,000 feet so it may make sense to acclimate at a lower altitude for people who are not from the Denver area. A few of the kids in our group didn't feel good for a part of the time.

Enjoyed our stay at this Mountain Hideaway

The house was in a great location within walking distance to town and beautiful views of the mountains. There was plenty of room for our family to spread out and it accommodated us very well. Vinyl flooring was nice so I wasn't worried about dirty shoes. The hot tub was a treat after playing in the snow and the kids loved having a TV in every room. The kitchen was spacious but I had a hard time cooking for our large family. Another 9x13 pan and a baking sheet would be nice. We had to use the covered pool table as a table which was fine but the only seating were the two benches that were too high to sit close to the table. Overall, we enjoyed our time in the mountains and would definitely choose to stay here again.

Mixed Feelings

Our stay at the rental home was a mix of positives and negatives. On the plus side, the size of the house was ideal for our group, offering enough room for everyone to be comfortable. The quick response from the maintenance team, when we reported heating issues in two bedroom was commendable. They promptly provided space heaters, ensuring our stay was not affected adversely by the cold. However, there were noticeable drawbacks. The overall maintenance of the property left much to be desired. Crooked cabinet doors and a lukewarm hot tub indicated a lack of attention to detail and regular upkeep. Basic supplies, such as a can opener, were surprisingly missing. Investing a small amount in essentials could significantly enhance the convenience for guests. A trip to the dollar store could easily address this issue. Furthermore, there was confusion regarding the amenities listed. The property was advertised as having laundry facilities, yet a sign on the laundry room door stated it was off-limits to tenants. This inconsistency between the listing and the actual accessibility of amenities was disappointing and misleading. In summary, while the rental home served its purpose in terms of size and management responding promptly to our immediate concerns. With some attention to some of the things mentioned above, this property has the potential to be a much more satisfying accommodation.

Host profile image
We (Alex & Nadim) are grateful to be able to offer an outdoor focused community to our guests up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. We both love rock climbing, hiking, biking, skiing and spending pretty much all of our free time outside; we were even crazy enough to run the Leadville 100. Our mission is to help as many people as possible discover the magic of the mountains...which is why we founded High Rocky Homes!

We're doing our best to make real estate and mountain access more affordable for EVERYONE!

For our real estate clients, we give half of our commission back to our buyers and sellers, saving them an average of $5,000. This helps our clients furnish a new home or simply reduces the high closing costs associated with buying or selling real estate.

For our property management clients, we offer a service that has no restrictive contracts, a lower commission model and superior performance. This means that more booking revenue goes back to our clients to offset the costs of their mountain homes.

For our guests, we've been working hard to offer more lodging accommodations that are clean, affordable, and full of great amenities set up for active people who want to enjoy the mountains for short or longer term stays!
