Spacious, artsy home, dubbed the "Rooster House", is located just 2 blocks from the heart of downtown Lawrence. Our home is within walking distance of all downtown events, arts, music, and restaurants historic Lawrence has to offer.
The space
Located on historic Rhode Island street, the house has free street parking as well as private alley parking, which comes in handy as many cars park on our block for downtown events. We are a 3 minute walk from the Granada, Replay Lounge, Bottleneck, and Jazzhaus. The Arts Center is around the corner, and just a block from that is the farmer's market which runs from early spring to late fall.
The house is spacious and open with skylights in the kitchen. Located on the main floor is 1.5 bathrooms, 1 non-conforming bedroom with memory foam twin daybed mattress and pull out trundle, fully equipped kitchen, living area, and pool room. The second level has 2 bedrooms, the master with a king bed which overlooks Rhode Island street, and the second bedroom with a queen bed. The stairs are quite steep, as it is a preserved and historic staircase. Please note that there is no bathroom upstairs, although one of the bedrooms adjoins the main bathroom downstairs. Please consider this if you have mobility issues.
The main floor has a spacious pool room and eating nook off of the living room for your entertainment. The living room has a comfy sectional, flat screen TV (equipped with 100 mbps internet and Amazon FireStick).
Please note that this house is historic, and parts of the home are settling. The decor and furnishings have character and are not "just out of the package" quality. Each room has unique artwork from several local artists, you may find yourself feeling more like a townie than a guest of Lawrence when you leave.
Guest access
Guests are welcome to the entire home, including the back porch and front porch. We ask that you stay out of the basement unless there is an emergency, as we use it for storage.

Outside front landscaping needs work. Inside main level was clean and cute. Not having an upstairs bathroom was annoying. If given a little more TLC could be a 4.5. The location can’t be beat.
We enjoyed our stay at this vintage property. Expectations were clearly explained and the location was perfect for walking to historic downtown. We went to a show at Liberty Hall and it was a walkable distance with no problem. If I find myself in Lawrence again this would be my top choice of place to stay. Thanks again
This is a great place for walking access to Mass Street, Riverfront and campus. Angela was very accommodating and the property was as described. Beds were comfortable, and the house was very clean.
Very much as described. Has a college town vibe. Walked to downtown shopping and restaurants. Very relaxing. Would not hesitate to stay here again. Suggestions: another mirror or two near outlets; new window AC in first upstairs bedroom.
The owner was very wonderful to work with. This house is in walking distance of downtown mass street
We enjoyed our time. The owner was very responsive to questions and everything was ready for us. Nice experience.

More than met our needs
My daughter and I found the property to be centrally located, well appointed and the kitchen was well equipped. Many restaurants were located in walking distance and we found the neighborhood to be quiet. The floor plan is representative of a home of this age with bedrooms upstairs and bath and half bath down stairs. We enjoyed the pool table as a unique feature. Angela was a responsive hostess and cut flowers and cold beverages in the fridge made for a welcoming environment.

I am a Kansas native who fell in love with Lawrence while attending the University of Kansas. I enjoy travelling for kickball, family, and leisure.
Why they chose this property
I love this particular property because of it's unique character, as I grew up in a home in Kansas which was on the National Historic Registry. The location in Lawrence can't be beat, as you are only minutes from all of the local shops, bars, and restaurants that make Lawrence special.
