world class home and location

This is simply one of the nicest places you’ll ever stay. The pictures are beautiful but it’s even better in person—gorgeous views, antique wood, incredible dry stacked stone fireplaces, idyllic landscaping, a cypress forest, and a wonderful host who created it all.

Amazing, serene stay with dramatic views.

Beautiful clifftop property directly over-looking the sea. Architecture and finishings are 6-star and Gary was the perfect host. will return soon.

Babymoon

Had a great stay during a double babymoon with another couple. The property is absolutely stunning. We did not want to leave. Property was very clean and has the best views in the area. Would highly recommend.

Lush gardens surrounded by ocean coves

This was out second delightful stay at Gary's property. It is exquisitely beautiful and healing. Very easy checking in and out. A fairy tale beautiful setting that invites imagination and inspiration. Also being so close to Big Sur is a huge plus as we love hiking and going to Nepenthe. Highly recommend this beautiful property if you are looking for a nurturing relaxing experience. Gary is an elegant wonderful host

Slice of Heaven on the Pacific Coast

The property is an absolute gem - a true slice of heaven on the Pacific Coast. The views of the ocean are breathtaking. The powerful sounds of the waves and spotting otters and whales added to the magic of the setting. The grounds are stunning and the home is beautifully appointed with every amenity, yet feels warm, relaxed and effortlessly livable. The owner went above and beyond—gracious, responsive, and genuinely helpful, even introducing us to key local contacts and helping us get to know the area. We’re so grateful for the experience and can’t wait to return.

Stunning in every way!

The most incredible weekend with our dearest friends celebrating our 40th birthdays! The home is just gorgeous- every design element is curated with such intention and perfection. The views, the property and the landscape are beyond words!! It was so relaxing and restorative. We decided to eat in most evenings because the views couldn’t be beat anywhere else! Gary was helpful and generous and we can’t wait to come again one day!

Outstanding

I had a very enjoyable stay at Seven Coves. The location is the highlight, with gorgeous ocean views. In close second place was the cottage design, layout and decorations. Even if the view were magically removed, there were many decisions and touches that were a consistent reminder that I was in a special place. It was all very comfortable and overwhelming at the same time. Highly recommended.

Magical gorgeous home on the ocean

This was the most magical home I've ever stayed in. Gary has created a magnificent environment. We looked out on the Pacific Ocean with a beautiful cove beneath. We saw whales, sea lions otters, pelicans. The bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. The lush gardens with thyme, the subtle lighting, a perfectly quiet creative replenishing environment. A fun bath tub too! Give yourself the gift of stayint in this home!

Seven Coves

Amazing property! Stunning ocean front views. Beautiful architecture and interior design. The owner, Gary was extremely helpful and accommodating. One thing that was not disclosed is that the owner lives in the house next door. Fortunately he was very respectful of our privacy and we only saw him twice. Once when we checked in and once when we were out on a walk. Overall, I would say the entire experience was a 10. I highly recommend it.

Heaven on Earth!

This warm and wonderful home was absolutely heaven on earth! The owner, Gary, did everything possible before and during our stay to make it a terrific experience for us all. He provided so much information prior to our arrival that helped us plan our days...but we really felt drawn to stay on site. That is because everything in this home has been selected with great heart and thought. The description and photographs do not depict the true beauty of this property. Location Location Location

Everything about this property was fantastic. Seven Coves is magical. It’s a perfect location to explore Carmel, Monterrey and Big Sur. Don’t waste your time staying in Big Sur as there’s little to access for dinners. So much better to be close to Carmel and Monterrey. The pictures posted don’t do it justice. It’s even better that the pics! Gary is a great host and makes you feel right at home. Pay attention to his recs for hikes and restaurants because they’re spot on. The home is so beautiful. Some afternoons we just explored the property because it was better than some of the hikes! It’s a must if you’re in the area.

Slice of heaven!...

My husband and I along with our two best friends, took a much needed break in this beautiful cottage and none of us wanted to leave! Gary had extreme vision when he built this rustic yet elegant hideaway. The rich materials and furnishings, dramatic lighting, lush gardens and walkways, fireplaces and fire pit and various seating areas to enjoy the breathtaking views, create a deeply comfortable and relaxing respite. We stayed in most nights to enjoy the sunsets while spotting whales, otters, sea lions, pelicans, seagulls, rabbits and many other beautiful creatures. The cottage is well stocked and suited all of our needs and Gary is a great host who was friendly, engaging, quick to respond and helpful and generous with his time and home. We are all so grateful that he makes his home available for those of us who are lucky enough to stay here! Thank you Gary and I look forward to returning to your "Narnia"!

One of a kind coastal property

We stayed in the South Cottage for 4 nights. This truly was a special treat and one to be remembered for a long time - I can still visualize the breathtaking coastal view and the fabulous cottage gardens, with its variety of scents, colour, hummingbirds and busy bees at work. Gary (Manager/Owner) was on hand to show us around the property, upon our arrival. It is decorated to a very high standard, but without being too overwhelming or intimidating The house has been designed to capture the coastal view from every aspect of the 2 bedroom cottage. Outside, there is seating galore, depending upon what you would like to view - the Pacific, the cliffs, the cottage garden, or the house itself. The only minor glitch was that the address I was given via the VRBO check-in link, was not the correct house number of the cottage. We ended up at the main house, known locally as "The Basic Instinct" house. This caused a little confusion at first, but was soon rectified after speaking to the renters of the large house. We have rented many VRBO's over the years and this cottage certainly makes our top 3. If you are lucky enough to stay here, I hope you enjoy it, as much as we did. We hope to return one day, you can't beat Carmel Highlands and its surrounds. Thank you, Gary, for allowing us to experience your vision and hard work.

Bucket list property

What a fantastic place. My husband and I have stayed at some amazing places…….Ventana, Post Ranch Inn, Amangiri, O&O Mandarina and so on, and this property was right up there with them. And in my opinion better than Ventana and Post Ranch Inn, yet still close to Big Sur, but also the benefit of being so close to Carmel By the Sea and my new favorite Carmel Valley for good food and wine tasting. 5 minutes from Point Lobos which was breath taking! This property had such thoughtful details throughout and I felt like I was in a fairytale. The grounds are amazingly beautiful and the multiple gorgeous ocean, coves, and cliff views took my breath away. This property is a must for anyone looking for a once in a lifetime stay in Big Sur/ Carmel. You won’t regret it.
