****NEW for 2026**** We’ve opened up our previously locked off master with a king bed to guests, with a king bed, a private en suite bathroom, a sitting room, and a dedicated workspace. Welcome to Lone Bear Cabin, a mountain view retreat on three private acres near Luray, Virginia. You have the entire place to yourself for the stay. This is our own getaway too, so we keep it clean, comfortable, well stocked, and maintained the way we want it when we arrive.
THE SPACE * Dogs only are welcome, with up to 2 dogs under 50 pounds each, and the pet fee is $100 per stay. Please indicate you have pets on your booking so you are charged appropriately. Bringing dogs without paying the pet fee is a violation of the rental agreement. * The upstairs primary suite has a king bed, en suite bathroom, a sitting room, and a dedicated workspace * The second upstairs bedroom has a king bed. * The main level bedroom has a queen bed. * The basement has a futon in an open area, and it is best for a child or teen since it is not as comfortable as a bed and has limited privacy.
BATHROOMS * The home has three full bathrooms. * Two bathrooms are tub and shower combos. * The en suite master bathroom is a shower only.
WE AND OUR GUESTS LOVE: * Our basement pool table and game space is nice especially for families and rainy days. * Starlink WiFi suitable for streaming and video calls (speeds can vary in storms) * ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 EV charger, 40 amp for the J1772 connector * The location is a great home base for Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive, and Luray. * Comfortable beds and a cabin that feels like a real home, not a bare bones rental.
KITCHEN * The kitchen is fully equipped for real meals, and we provide both drip and Keurig coffee makers. * If you cannot find something or an item is worn, message us and we will replace it quickly.
RIVER ACCESS We are not riverfront, but the neighborhood Home Owners Association (HOA) provides river access to the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Bring your own tubes or kayaks. Adult life jackets are available upon request, and we recommend bringing child sizes if needed.
There are two access points. The first 0.9 miles away with parking available, and the second 1.2 miles away for drop-off and pick-up. Enjoy tubing for about two hours or kayaking for about 30 minutes between these points.
CABIN POINTERS * Keep in mind our well, our septic and space are neither equipped, licensed nor insured to host more than 6 people. Please reach out if you are unsure if our place is suitable for your daytime visitors if you will go above our max occupancy. * No smoking or vaping is allowed. * Filtered well water is drinkable, and the home uses a septic system, so please flush toilet paper only. * About one mile of graded gravel road leads to the cabin, and compact two wheel drive sedans are fine except during the worst snow storms. We personally drive our compact ford focus and we rarely have access issues except in heavy snow * The neighborhood clears the road during major snow events, but conditions can vary, so all wheel drive is recommended during heavy snow. * A fragrance free laundry option is available on request for a small supply cost.
HOT TUB We have a 600-gallon Sundance Maxxus Hot Tub, comfortably fitting up to 8 people. Our dedicated cleaners and hot tub service company ensure it’s always in top condition.
SERVICE AND SUPPORT We take pride in providing exceptional service. Should anything not meet your standards, we have several service contracts and area companies on retainer ready to assist you. We also provide videos and instruction guides for all house amenities to ensure a hassle-free stay.

Our family of 5 (mom, dad, and 3 teenage boys) plus our dog absolutely loved our stay! The view is breathtaking - and the view while in the hot tub was even better. The kitchen has every gadget and pan necessary and is not cluttered with a lot of old spices or oils of dubious age/origin. The bathrooms are very new and we all appreciated the hotel amenities (soap, shampoo, etc.). Best of all, the large living room gave us plenty of space to hang out and the board games enticed my boys to put their phones down and play chess. We also spent a lot of time playing some very bad pool. An extremely comfortable stay and we would definitely visit Lone Bear Cabin again!
The cabin was even more beautiful than the pictures portray. Everything we needed for the perfect stay was there. The snowfall and seeing lots of deer were an added plus. We enjoyed the Skyline Drive and an afternoon at Luray Caverns. Our host was also very helpful! I definitely recommend this cabin.

Thank you, it was wonderful to meet you all as guests. Thank you also for the poem. We'll frame it and put in in our cabinet!
A beautiful location and a very comfortable house, great for our family with two little kids. Just a couple hours from the DMV, but a world away for beauty and relaxation in Virginia. We discovered the terrific Shenandoah River State Park just 15 minutes away. Host is great communicator, everything went smoothly.

Those are wonderful pictures, thank you for sharing. I especially love the colors from the evening sun!
The host was great with communicating the necessary information prior to check-in. The house was in fantastic condition. You could tell it was recently updated and a lot of thought was taken when it came to decorating the house. We had zero complaints and enjoyed a fantastic weekend. Thank you.

Appreciate the feedback and I'm glad to hear that our. continued investment into the home is noticable!
The house beautiful and exactly as it was listed. We loved the space, it was very nicely decorated - not over the top, just right. The amenities were great for our stay - dishwasher, washer, & dryer. Beds were comfortable. It was very clean and well taken care of. The hot tub was a wonderful plus and one of the reason we booked this place. It is a large hot tub which was very nice. The view is stunning!! We would definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay at Lone Bear Cabin. Mark could not have been a more attentive, kind, or diligent host. He reached out before we arrived with everything we needed to know and was extremely responsive to any questions we had. We enjoyed an incredible Thanksgiving break and would definitely book again in the future.

This is the first mountain vacation I’ve been on since my mother passed away last year. She loved Virginia and this place was absolutely perfect. Beautiful scenery, nice accommodations, great response times from host. If anyone is looking for a place to rest, reset, and enjoy… I highly recommend Lone Bear Cabin.

It was a wonderful and relaxing time at Lone Bear Cabin. We had a quiet peaceful stay. The kitchen was well equipped for us .We particularly liked the level 2 charger that made our trip with an EV very easy. The wild turkeys made an evening visit.
