Whether you're enjoying a morning coffee on the patio, reading a book beneath the trees or simply taking in the panoramic views, the gardens offer a peaceful sanctuary where guests can unwind at their own pace.

One of the lodge's most captivating features is its elevated position overlooking the surrounding countryside. On clear days, guests can enjoy spectacular views stretching across the Exe Estuary to the sea beyond. Sunrise and sunset bring particularly magical moments, bathing the landscape in changing colours and creating a sense of calm that is difficult to find elsewhere. Wildlife lovers will be delighted by the regular sightings of deer wandering through the surrounding fields, while buzzards, hawks, woodpeckers, pheasants and many other birds can often be spotted from the comfort of the garden.

We bought Exeter Lodge when it was derelict and required renovating. The house was stripped literally just to its walls and some roof rafters. The walls varied in construction from bricks, to cob and Heavitree stone. The roof was tiled with slates, the floors were relayed, the electrics and plumbing redone, walls and ceilings re-plastered, fire places re-established and all re-decorated. All windows and doors were replaced, ensuring the character of the property was reinstated to the 19c. To add a modern touch, under floor heating was added which is run by a biomass boiler from the main house and solar panels heat the water. The lodge has its own bore hole, which provides crisp, filtered water.

Why they chose this property

When we bought Exeter Lodge we bought it with our hearts. The view and location won us over from day one, we knew we had to buy it! Once you have stayed you will be entranced by the peace and beauty of the area.

What makes this property unique

The lodge is nestled amongst historic woodland and boasts its own secret, stunning view over the rolling Devon countryside, out to the Exe Estuary and the sea beyond. It is a perfect place to recoup and relax but also to be able to explore the local countryside and the beautiful city of Exeter, which is only a few miles down the road.
