Glenelg - Detached House With Stunning Views Over the Sea to the Isle of Skye
Seaview is a large holiday house situated in an idyllic situation with the most fabulous views towards the Isle of Skye. It is an ideal base to chill out and enjoy the tranquillity or as a base to tour the west coast of Scotland. With four double bedrooms and sleeping up to 8 guests, 2 families have in the past shared their holiday at Seaview. Glenelg has a population of about 300, and is set in a very tranquil and peaceful part of Scotland with breathtaking scenery. Situated on the mainland coast, opposite the Isle of Skye,. The local ferry over the sea to Skye is 3 miles away, or the bridge (now free of tolls) is 17 miles away at Kyle of Lochalsh. There is an abundance of walks of various levels nearby: from a 5-minute walk to the local shop or inn; along the coast or glen; and hill walking from gentle walks to the Five Sisters of Kintail. There are many other activities in the surrounding area including excellent fishing. Of historic interest are the Pictish Brochs, General Wade's barracks, and Sandaig (where Gavin Maxwell lived with his otters) and from which the film Ring of Bright Water was made. Glenelg is a unique place where people return to year after year, because of the tranquility, friendliness of the locals and the renowned Glenelg Inn. The nearby beaches are stunning and children will enjoy a traditional seaside holiday - and perhaps view Sea Eagles, dolphins or whales from the sandy beaches. This is one of Scotland's special hidden places.

Fab house, location and views.
Perfect location for an extended family holiday. Had a lovely day trip over to Skye via the ferry, a great way to travel. Rarely used the car aprt from that day, fantastic walks in surrounding area, lots of time spent in sea swimming, skimming stones, and in garden admiring the view. House was great, well equipped and felt like home. Loads of space even with 10 people staying. Cant recommend this holiday highly enough.

While it is true that if you just wish to chill out and relax you can stay locally but many guests use Seaview as a base to explore the wider area.

Lovely views!
The property was in a beautiful setting and very clean. The views couldn't have been nicer for our first trip to Scotland. With no experience traveling in Scotland, I did not realize how long it would take to drive 10 miles across a mountain on a single track road. For our purposes, the location was a bit remote. I consider it a learning experience. The Glennelg Inn where we ate one night was a wonderful experience and thoroughly enjoyed.

Scotland is different from the USA but it is the quite country seaside location away from the pressures of modern life that attracts many of our guests.
Great location on the edge of the loch and fantastic views across to Skye. The property was very clean, would have given five stars for info but the site pdf said towels not included, only to find towels were provided, so we used the ones we had brought with us. Kitchen well equipped and plenty of crockery and baking equipment. Enclosed garden was good for the dog. Visited local shop a quite a few times and ate twice in the pub, both only a five minute walk away. We had a very relaxing stay, lovely local walks, the historic brochs, and Gavin Maxwells Croft and strolls along the beach. All in all a lovely New Year family stay
Beautiful house in a quiet friendly village with outstanding views. Large rooms with comfy beds, good bathrooms, a very well equipped kitchen. Terrible sofas in living room or it would have been the best accomodation I have stayed in ever. Fantastic Inn with amazing food just 5 mins walk. The fishing outside the cottage and from the pier was good. Met Willie and his pet deer in Corran, saw otters, seals, pine martins, and there were porpoises in the bay. Had good weather and were spoilt for lovely places to picnic. Special thanks to the lovely cleaner. Amazing all round holiday. Aileen

Glad you enjoyed your stay, we intend to change the sofa's it is the design of them although comfortable they are difficult to get out off.
Thirty years ago my wife and I honeymooned in the Highlands. This year we decided to take our now adult children and their partners away for a week to celebrate. One had to drop out due to work commitments so we had seven adults staying at Sea View and it was excellent. Well appointed and comfortable, with magnificent views across to Skye. Being the Highlands we were out from dawn to dusk enjoying the magnificent country but in the evenings Sea View was the perfect base. Room to eat together, good cooking facilities, space to read or play card games etc . We thoroughly enjoyed our week and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sea View to anybody considering a break in this beautiful country.

Fantastic location; spacious, comfortable home
All the other reviews are true! This is a lovely home with a well equipped kitchen overlooking beautiful Kylerhea and the Isle of Skye. It was a joy to look out over the water every day, with even the occasional rain and mist making for some interesting atmospheric effects. On the way to Glenelg we stocked up at the Morrison's in Fort William, made a few purchases at the village shop and then topped up at a supermarket on Skye. There are plenty of places to eat locally, though. The village cafe makes delicious cakes and The Wagon out by the brochs serves excellent coffee plus we came home with a jar each of blackcurrant and plum jam. One day we drove round the coast to Sandaig and Corran on Loch Hourn - quite stunning. The ferry journey to Skye was a highlight in itself, waiting our turn in the queue on a rainy day was all part of relaxing and enjoying the community and amazing scenery. Sometimes we stayed in playing games in the spacious lounge and cooking family meals together. Our big night out was dinner at the wonderful Glenelg Inn just a short walk from the house. Overall, we had a lovely holiday and definitely recommend this house.

This is a very fair review of Seaview and the Glenelg area and is why guests continue to return to this secluded area of the west coast of Scotland to admire the scenery and relax and unwind.

Great family house in spectacular location.
Seaview is a great house. Glenelg is a lovely location. Together they make a great combination for a quiet week. The house was bigger and more spacious than I'd expected. It is very comfortable, with all mod cons and a very well equipped kitchen, and has stunning views across the bay. Highlights of our week included driving to the end of the dead-end road that runs past the house, enjoying spectacular scenery along the way and tea at the end in the smallest, most unusual cafe we'd every been in (in Corran); two trips up to the amazing brochs, one trip by car and the other using hired bikes (hired from just down the road), again enjoying tea and cake at a lovely eco-cafe; taking the local car ferry across to Skye (the ferry is the last manually operated turntable ferry in Scotland - and was a joy to see in operation); eating at the local pub (great food and beer) and enjoying the live music there on one evening; tea in the Glenelg cafe; a very long but stunning drive to the Applecross peninsula; and a very long drive around Skye (it's a big place!). The weather during our week was mixed but the house was a good place to sit and read and watch the rain sweep in, and although there was only the one road in and out (other than the ferry to Skye), it's a decent road with lovely views. Just one word of advice for visitors who intend to self-cater - stock up with food on the way in - nearest supermarkets Fort William and Kyle (with another on the road into Kyle) and then top up from the small local shop. (The shop was closed on Sunday.) Great week - thank you Maria and David for the use of your lovely house!

I would agree since most people drive either through Inverness or Fort William it is best to stock up on food supplies.
The house is in a great position in a classic highland village. The downstairs layout is very good and feels like a much bigger space than we expected.
Seaview provided the ideal home away from home whilst visiting Glenelg . The instructions from the property manager to access Seaview were concise and accurate. Seaview has a well equipped kitchen, spacious, ideal location for sea kayaking, enjoying the beach, cycling and hill-walking. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. The living room was spacious and comfortable for relaxing and admiring the views over the Sound of Sleat.
Lovely house to accommodate a large group, set within stunning surroundings. We never want to leave at the end of our holiday. This is our third year here as a big family and it feels like Glenelg just gets better and better. Everything was fantastic the only thing I would say though is the sofas need updating, my elderly father struggled getting on and off them.
This is a great location with dramatic views over The Sound of Sleat - a scenic delight out of the front windows in all weathers and all light conditions. We had lots of room and slept in comfortable beds. The house was warm and cosy with an excellent TV. Catering was well provided for in a large and well-equipped kitchen.
We fished from the front doorstep (almost) and successfully foraged for fungi locally.
When we felt like it, the village pub served great meals and live music. Friendly neighbours and local folk made the whole week a one to remember. Thank you David.
Besten dank an David.
Meget ideel til familieferie med bla. rummeligt køkken. Fantastisk udsigt fra huset. God base for længere ture, incl. vandreture; men også meget spændende at opleve i nærområdet. Så fredelig og smuk beliggenhed!
Great holiday rental, as described, comfortably furnished with everything you need. Would come back again.

Fantastic views, great place to unwind
Thank you we loved our week at seaview. Wildlife was out in force with pine martins, birds, deer and otters all making an appearance. The local mountain rescue were also amazing, thankfully they didn’t need to go further than our cottage as our missing party returned rather cold and wet but safe.
My main concern is that the property is listed as being suitable for children of all ages and that there is a cot and high chair, this is true but to be honest they were not in a very good state. The high chair was dirty and the harness was not the correct one and was not fit for purpose. The cot is a travel cot that was again dirty/stained and had no bottom sheet luckily we took blankets with us for our little one, the stair gate is not much use either we had to adapt it to fit but not ideal. If you are taking children younger than 4yrs be prepared to improvise.
Fantastic place to relax and unwind with family. Highly recommend visit to walled garden in applecross if you like driving in the highlands and loch Caron Spar a must if your upthat way.

Sea View Glenelg
The house was nice and clean (apart from the oven) and very well equipped. The beds were very comfortable and the bed linen lovely, fresh and clean. The lounge furniture however wasn't so good with uncomfortable settees. It didn't matter to us as there was only three in our party and the weather was superb so we spent a lot of time outside but for a larger party it could be inadequate. All in all we had a lovely stay at Sea View

About the host
Hosted by David Blair
I originally come from Glenelg but due to work commitments and the children's education I now live in Aberdeen with my wife and two children. Every opportunity we get we return to Glenelg to enjoy the peace and relax.
Why they chose this property
The site that Seaview stands on has been in the family for generations, but the small cottage was pulled down and this modern four bedroom detached house was erected in its place. Seaview has all modern conveniences and stunning views over the sea to the Isle of Skye. It is very peaceful and relaxing and sleeps 8 guests so on occasions two families have shared Seaview during their holiday.
What makes this property unique
Seaview is situated across the road from the beach and commands stunning views over the sea and the hills around. It is a five minute walk to the local shop and Glenelg inn. There are numerous walks and you can roam the shores, watch the ships pass, watch wildlife including sea eagles. Or you can go to the local inn, enjoy a meal and a drink with the locals who are very friendly. The ferry to the Isle of Skye is 3 miles away, and there are lots of site seeing from the world famous Elan Donan Castle, Isle of Skye, Sandaig Island (Ring of Bright Water film about otters) or you can use Glenelg as a base to tour the west highlands.
