This Edinburgh area holiday house was newbuilt as new self contained wing of Rathan House (1852). Set in the leafy upmarket Eskbank conservation area , it has 2 french windows from the lounge to a shared croquet lawn and quiet south facing walled garden.
Off street parking. 2 very good restaurants and a pleasant pub within 200 metres.

Excellent Edinburgh park and ride retreat with buses every 10 mins and trains every half hour to central Edinburgh. Edinburgh , the Lothians and the Borders have too many visitor attractions to cite all, the owners can help design bespoke daytrips - Eg Hogwarts Alnwick , Holy Isle and Hadrians Wall ; Traquair, Bowhill and Abbotsford; North Berwick Seabird center beeches and Museum of Flight.

Edinburgh speaks for itself but note that this Dalkeith vacation rental is 5 kilometres from Roslin Chapel., 1km from the Butterfly farm and Dobbies ..& 800 metres from Dalkeith Palace.

The house has a large kitchen diner with seating for 6 (8 at a push) ...3 showers , 4 wc's and a bidet. It has sash and case wooden double glazing and high standard modern insulation. The owners take pride in the housekeeping standards.

Nice appartement with a large living-kitchen. Ideally located for a trip to Edinburgh; a 45 minutes ride with the bus that stops nearly in front of the appartement. Two supermarkets nearby (one 500m walk, the other 5 minutes drive). Parking on private ground in front of the appartement. And a very large and nice garden at the back op the house.Roselyn Chapel, worth a visit, is closeby with car. And a 45 minutes ride away is Jupiter Artland. A sculpture garden on a estate. We spent a whole day wandering around and had a delightful lunch. A day tour to the coast (North Berwick, St. Abbs) is also worth the effort.

Very welcoming and decorated for Christmas which was a lovely touch. Amenities were great and for me the location was perfect. I enjoyed being able to host my family and friends. Irene & Ewan were very welcoming and supportive hosts and I highly recommend.

This apartment was as advertised; spacious and well located in a suburb of Edinburgh. The hosts are generally busy with a b&b in the main part of the building, but were helpful when we needed it and interesting to talk to. And they have a couple of lovely dogs on the property.

Fantastic place to stay

My wife and I and our 3 older kids loved staying here. The place is very nice and the 3 separate showers were really helpful. It’s close to a bus stop that we used to head into Edinburgh each day. We would absolutely stay here again.

Convenient Location

We enjoyed our stay at the Dalkeith, Eskbank, UK Vacation Rental. It was conveniently located to shopping, transportation, and Edinburgh. It was easy to get around and we weren't stuck in the busy center of Edinburgh.

Fantastic place to stay

The home was perfect for our group of 5. The kitchen had everything we needed, the bedrooms a great size for all our things, and the location was great for getting around. Irene and Ewan were wonderful hosts and provided all the information we needed to navigate our way around Edinburg and the area. We’d definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone wanting a perfect place to stay while in the Edinburg area!

Christmas in Edinburgh

Our family of 5 adults had a lovely stay at the Rathan house…it’s so quaint with a pretty view of the garden from the living room which we enjoyed every morning with our coffee…the place comes completely prepared and organized and clean…the bus stop for Edinburgh is conveniently located right outside …we would definitely stay here again! Thank you for a great stay!

Truly delightful!

What a great place for our family! Beautiful garden (complete with 2 sweet dogs) that offered a very pleasant respite after a day of sightseeing. The accommodations were perfect with ample space and comfort. The location was ideal for bus service to the city center, Rosslyn Chapel, and the beach. And, a good grocery with easy walking distance. Nice clean property close to Edinburgh

Had a great stay at Eskbank - very clean property that has an amazing kitchen for cooking. The property is very close to the town of Dalkeith, which has great food options and many great places to walk a dog. The house is within steps of a bus stop that will take you into the city center relatively quickly. The hosts were wonderful at offering ideas on places to sight see. Highly recommended if you want to stay a bit outside of the city.

We had a lovely stay in this home in Eskbank. It was within walking distance of all the necessities and was clean, with perfect space for our family to settle in. I highly recommend it for others. Our hosts were lovely and very responsive (as well as open to offering suggestions for restaurants and ways to meet our needs in town). We will be back and recommend it for others.

Lovely home in a great location

Wanted a few days to relax prior to a 10 day tour of Scotland. The Holiday house was perfect for two couples. Fantastic communication with owners and comfortable home. Well appointed notched and near bus stops. East bus access to Roslyn chapel as well as many other places to vist. We liked that we could feel safe walking to the stores and restaurants. We were sad when we had to leave

Wonderful!

Irene's place was perfect for my Aunt and I. We enjoy the comforts of a home when we travel and that's exactly what we got at Irene's. Plus the bus was just outside the door making the trips into Edinburgh so easy. The walk to downtown Dalkeith and restaurants was less than 10 minutes. The hosts were very helpful in directing us into their place with the unintended late arrival and in arranging a taxi for our trip to the airport. I only regret that I didn't have time to enjoy the beautiful garden. If you want all the amenities, plenty of space, easy access, parking, beautiful surroundings all at a great value this is the place to stay.

Scotland trip

We had so much fun in Scotland. Our host lived on the property and so was there to answer questions, let us in and was there if we had any questions. We met our hosts several times out in the garden as we were unwinding from our day. The site was very close to the train station, there were several stores to get groceries and we were very close to Roslin Chapel. We also drove to Stirling one day. Our rooms were comfortable and we each had our own shower. Plenty of room for the three in our party. Thank you so much for all your help. Our hosts were good communicators and they even called me before we left to speak with us about our trip. You can trust this one with your stay.

She is a semi retired former laboratory technician at a famous edinburgh school. Her interests include retreiver dog training, rugby, gardening , scotttish country dancing and churchwork.

Her husband E wan is a retired banker and lecturer at the University of Glasgow Business school. He is also a former soldier , accountant and woollen textiles manufacturer. He is also interested in dog training, rugby and gardening. He can converse in German and French but is not fluent.

Why they chose this property

The holidayhouse is adjacent to an 1852 mansionhouse set in its own grounds 7 miles from Edinburgh castle. In 2004 Irene built this holiday house as a new west wing after 10 years experience of holiday letting. The newbuild design was to ensure it was spaceous and very pleasing to the modern family. Fabby kitchen/diner and lounge and 3 shower rooms. It has direct access through french windows to a large beautiful well kept southfacing enclosed peaceful walled garden. parking fro 2 cars. Set in a leafy upmarket conservation area , perhaps the holidaymaker can feel as if they are in Scottish millionaire row while on holiday? It has excellent heating and insulation.

What makes this property unique

Quick and easy city and airport access - but leafy and peaceful. The first ever holidaymakers here summed it up. 2 italian landscape architects first words were " Bellissimo "
Dalkeith Palace 500 acre grounds - 800 metres. ( There is s child adventure playground - built for £2 Millions)
Bus to Edinburgh every 10 minutes ( £1.80/ journey) Train every half hour.
1 km from the central Scotland motorway network and 20 minutes from Edinburgh Airport
7 excellent reataurants within 1 km. 2 within easy walk. 3 supermarkets within 800 metres.

While most tourists wish to see Edinburgh - the fabulous Borders and East Lothian trails are on the doorstep. Glenkinchie Distillery is one of the finest - ( 8 miles).

Attractions : Edinburgh Castle; Mary King's Close; Holyrood Palace; the Museum of Scotland ; Butterfly Farm; Edinburgh Zoo with its panda bears; Dalkeith Palace; Melrose Abbey Philiphaugh salmon leap; Bohill ; Borthwick Castle; Crichton Castle ; John Muir walk ; Pentland Hills and the fairies of Carlops.
