10% DISCOUNT FOR ALL REMAINING 2024 DATES. JUST ASK. ONLY 40 Minutes Paved day trip to MANUEL ANTONIO National Park
WHY STAY IN A HOTEL WHEN YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OWN PRIVATE STUDIO WITH AN OCEAN & BEACH VIEW AND SUNSETS THAT AMAZE? THE ENTIRE 2nd Floor IS YOURS WITH JUST A SHORT WALK TO THE OCEAN 2WD OK.
This private studio is the only rental on our property. Olas Hermosas sits on a rare spot on the ocean side of the coastal highway, built with the remarkable view as the architectural focal point, and from every part of the efficiency you'll see the beautiful ocean, stunning beach and bay. Even when you take your shower you will be able to enjoy the view.
Olas Hermosas is furnished with full kitchen, air conditioning, hot water, sunflower seed shower head, free laundry service, portable speaker system and cable TV. A king-size bed converts to two twins. Best suited for 1 or 2 people. All you need to bring are your personal items.
The front has a private gated entrance. You do not need a four-wheel drive since you never have to leave pavement from the San Jose Airport to the gated entrance. You will only be a mile from great shops and restaurants in the village of Dominical.
We are located in a tropical paradise where the mountains meet the Pacific Ocean. The primary jungle ridge across the road is one of the steepest in the area so close to the ocean so no one is looking down on you. We have the best close-up views in the southern region. Ballena Marine National Park is only a 15 minute drive down the Coastal South Highway, with a gorgeous string of beaches along the way and two other National Parks close by.
Do not to forget your binoculars and camera! From your top floor 180´ unobstructed ocean view terrace you can see a large variety of birds and wildlife throughout the day. Across the highway is an unobstructed few of the steep mountain ridge full of wildlife, perfect for sitting and seeing what you can spot from the covered patio or from poolside. Watch the activity of the local fishing boats from the small anchorage at bay side and wth some patience you could spot an occasional whale or two from your vacation rental getaway. Several were spotted from the veranda the week after Christmas just two-hundred meters offshore. Best viewing results are early in the morning and late afternoon.
Get away from the crowds and stay in a private, clean and secure environment. It is not uncommon that you will find that you are the only one on this secluded mile-long picturesque beach just a 4 minute walk from your tropical home away from home to swim, sunbathe, stroll the beach or look for shells and sand dollars. Beach chairs for your comfort on the beach and a soft-sided cooler for your cold drinks and picnic treats are here for your convenience. We have two boogie boards you can rent for your entire visit for $10 each.
Relax at the end of the day and watch as the sun sinks into the ocean most of the year. In addition to the regular gorgeous sunsets, you will experience the soothing sound of the rhythm of the ocean waves or, at other moments, witness dramatic scenes as huge waves encounter the rocks in a beautiful display of Nature at her best.
A neighboring restaurant has one of the best secluded ocean-view dinner locations that can't be missed. We are part of the Amancio neighborhood that settled the main property 50 years ago.

The hosts were very friendly, helpful and interesting people. Very responsive to any concerns and really cared about us having the best time possible. Dave even DID OUR LAUNDRY,,because the washing machine was on the fritz and he knew how to baby it along!
The property had amazing views of the beach and sunsets. We primarily lived on the huge balcony. The dipping pool was perfect after a long walk on the beach. Water pressure was good and hot water ample. Only regret was we only booked one week.We would definitely return to this property should our travel plans agree.Thank you so much “West’s “ for sharing your lovely home with us.Sincerely,Jacquie and Mike
As a first time traveller to Costa Rica. Dave and Deb have definitely put in an amazing effort to create welcoming stays! We had what could have been a major issue of a double booking turn into actually a very peaceful slice of heaven thanks to the hosts allowing us one night in a beautiful villa only a short drive from our actual booked suite! Amenities in both places are all available. The villa and suite were both clean and well looked after. Costa del sol even tho is right off the main hwy. the privacy and security is great! And honestly the hwy traffic was hardly noticeable. Dave also sent us plenty of information and things to do or see around the area including a dinner at the little family run restaurant “Mariscos” near by which he suggested it’s worth a stop. And my oh my was he right! All in all I would love to stay here again. And probably stay longer next time! Gracias Dave and Deb!
Highly recommended this property! The place was sparkling clean and well laid out for a couple. Comfortable bed and a warm shower!! The huge balcony was hard to leave because the views were so wonderful! Great hosts with great area recommendations.
We enjoyed the property. The balcony views were amazing...sunrise with morning coffee...surfers in the distance, Para gllding & the most beautifull sunsets. There were a few issues in our 3 week stay but Dave solved all of them..thanks DaveDave & Deb were great hosts. They made us feel very welcome to their property. We would recommend this property to future renters.
Great place for a couple with the most stunning view!!
Very convenient location. No hills to climb but a vehicle is needed. Contact with host was great, prompt and helpful.
Watching the sunsets from the studio balcony was incredible!! Dave and Deb are awesome hosts, they are very knowledgeable and helpful with information and directions. The studio is set up with everything you need, we stayed a month. Having a car would be beneficial.
Dave was a wonderful host, directing us to local hikes and helping to arrange transportation. Local beaches were easily walkable, the plunge pool was refreshing, there was an abundance of bird life, and the view is killer. Yes there is some road noise, mostly during the day. We’ll be back!
Dave was invaluable in offering directions to restaurants, waterfalls, beaches etc. Conveniently located to everything….The pool was incredibly refreshing after exploring or coming back from the beach. The balcony was a a great place to relax and enjoy the sunsets. ( Our apologies to the neighbors for the 70’s and 80’s hits sunset serenades.) Very comfy king sized bed. Fun to wake up to the howler monkeys. We enjoyed the company of the resident iguana, “Inigo Montoya” and a couple of adorable tree frogs. Appreciated the special touches, like paintings of Costa Rica wildlife and scenery. It made it feel like our own private hideaway. Muchas Gracias for a memorable stay!

A perfectly wonderful experience!!
Everything was exactly as promised! This place matched the photos and description to a tee and we lacked for nothing! The views were breathtaking! The beach is just a very short walk away and the little surfer village of Dominical is just down the road. Dominical has a little bit of everything... lazy surfer bars, little markets, live music, little stands with jewelry and gifts and an absolutely beautiful beach. Make sure you ask Dave and Debbie about "Tuna Tuesday"! Speaking of Dave and Deb, they are some of the nicest and most hospitable people I have met. They went out of their way to make our vacation a truly memorable experience.
If you like to cook the studio has everything you need. The produce is so fresh and so inexpensive. There is a fish market just down the road. We bought an entire Mahi-Mahi for $10!! There are also a wide variety of restaurants in Dominical for those not so culinary adventurous. Tortilla Flats is good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Rum Bar has amazing pizza. San Clemente is just a cool place to hang out.
Dave will point you to his favorite beach just down the road and will let you rent out boogie boards. The huge waves make it a blast. The studio is also fully equipped with beach supplies...chairs, mats, cooler, umbrellas. Just make sure you bring sunscreen. That sun is hot!! Make sure you check out the waterfall form the pictures. It is awesome!
We rented a very small car which was perfect except for the main road in Dominical which is extremely bumpy. If you want to go up into the jungle at all or to a really cool bar called Bar Jolly Roger you will need four wheel drive. For the most part we were fine with our little matchbox car. One thing to be aware of...everyone has to have Costa Rican car insurance which is around $50 a day. Expedia did not inform us of this when we reserved a car with them!
This was truly my favorite and most relaxing vacation ever. The beautiful views matched with the Costa Rican's "pura vida" attitudes made it a trip to paradise. If you decide to stay here you will have the time of your life!
Great location to many beaches and restaurants. The views are amazing and I got to watch a toucan fly into trees nearby. The pool at the end of the day was alway wonderful. Thank you.

Truck traffic woes
The studio was nice and certainly worth the rent. The view was great. I had hoped to be able to walk to Dominincal, but it is not really possible. Walking to the beach below was easy and it is a beautiful and isolated spot.
The only problem is the location, which is right along the Costenera highway. And I do mean right on. Getting in and out of the driveway is challenging, and trucks often use airbrakes right on the corner. This often woke use up, and certainly didn't lend itself to a peaceful Costa Rican experience.
The pictures are accurate and the view is incredible. Dealing with Dave is a pleasure and his man on the ground was able to come to the property and address any issue. I don’t know how he did it but the studio smells so good, Even after being closed up all day. There is a little seafood restaurant so far off the beaten path as to wonder how they survive. It is walking distance and the man and women who run it are so nice. Walking distance to a beautiful beach. A little swimming pool if that’s what you’re after. It was a perfect honeymoon. There is a little bit of noise from the highway so if that sort of thing wrinkles your brain then maybe look elsewhere but if you are like us, this place is perfect. Thanks Dave.
This studio greatly exceeded our expectations! It is easy to find and the location is perfect - close to town for good shopping and restaurants, and is only a 4 minute walk to the most beautiful quiet beach! Dave and Deb were so helpful and fun and we are honored to now call them friends! One of their team members, named Joe, was very helpful in answering any questions we had about the local area and in making great referrals for tours. We would never hesitate to recommend this rental to all our our family and friends!
Dave the owner was super helpful with checking in and even with suggesting activities and companies to use. The location in Dominicolito was very convenient. You could walk down to the beach. We rented a car so we drove most everywhere but it was within walking distance to Dominical and the shopping and restaurants there. It's also a short drive to Uvita where we visited Marino Ballena and went on a canyoning adventure repelling down waterfalls. Dave suggested Costa Canyoning for that adventure and I couldn't recommend them more if you're looking for something more adventurous. The studio is above their office, but no one bothered us. We were out most of the day going places and it was also nice having someone nearby if we needed anything or to answer questions during the day. The view of the beach in the distance was beautiful and you could watch the waves crashing on the rocks all day long. It was June and rainy season so we did get some rain every day or night but it never seemed to ruin anything for us. The Posa Azul waterfall is also within walking distance and is really refreshing and beautiful. We would've loved to have more time to enjoy it all some more but we were only there for a few days. The studio has good air conditioning, king size bed, and a kitchenette to prepare meals (however the food in Costa Rica was delicious every where we went so we tried to go out as much as possible). We felt safe since the property was gated and has cameras on the parking and entrance areas. Overall we loved the locations and enjoyed our stay a lot. Dave even invited us to one of his other rental properties just up the hill for some drinks and nachos and that place had a gorgeous view also. We started planning our next trip to Costa Rica on our drive back to the airport. We can't wait to return and would stay here again.

Roomy studio with fantastic view
We very much enjoyed our stay at the studio- it was roomy and well appointed. The large private veranda became our favorite early evening spot. The king size bed was comfy and the a/c worked well. We liked that there separate seating areas rather than just the bed. With many studio apts, this is not the case. WiFi worked OK, but we did sometimes need to sit on the veranda to use it. Dave and Deb went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The washing machine was not working while were there, so they had our clothes laundered for us with no extra charge (much appreciated after a week’s travel). We also borrowed boogie boards and met them at Secret Beach for the weekly beach party, which included golf and a boogie board refresher lesson. Definitely accept this invite if you are there when they plan to go! There are a few restaurants within walking distance, there are many more less than 3-4 miles away. If you want food supplies in the studio, your best bet is the super Mercado in Uvita. The fruit stands on the roadside also have excellent fruit and fresh eggs. One warning - there are stairs to the studio, and the walk to the beach is down a steep driveway. Probably not a place for people with mobility problems.

nice studio
There was a little confusion as to directions to which of Dave's facilities we were headed to, but a telephone call quickly cleared things up. The unit had a good location, was clean, fully equipped, a comfortable bed and shower, a great AC, a lovely veranda with a breathtaking view. Dave went above and beyond at being a hospitable host, and gave several perfect recs for food and live music. Nice dipping pool, too. We enjoyed the local ex-pat community as well--a very hospitable group! Some great real estate opportunities here through Dave, as well, but if you're interested to looking, ask him in advance to your arrival. He's not going to push it, and has plenty to occupy his time already. If I retire in CR., the Domenical area is where you'll find me.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience at our place. I am glad you checked out some of my suggested special places and it was great you came out to enjoy "ZZ Top" at the Bamboo Room. I hope you return to the area and make it home. See you next time.

Beautiful view, convenient location.
Dave and his staff were so helpful. The views and location were great. Short walks to several good dining options including a soda run by a neighbor. Great beach walks in both directions. The apartment was comfortable and the view from the balcony was fabulous. Definitely going back.

Beyond Expectations
There hasn't been a review since 2015 so I though I better write one.
Looking at the pictures for Olas Hermosa when searching for a vacation place in CR I was a little sceptical if the view and place would be as nice as described. After settling I can assure you the pictures don't do this justice. The reviews from previous guests are correct - it really is hard to leave the deck (I am writing this while looking out over the palm trees sipping on an Imperial.)
The studio is wonderful - everything you need to have a low-cost vacation (eating at "home" is no problem) and we were more than comfortable with three of us, even with the 36C+ heat.
The beach in front of us is Dominicalito and is best enjoyed for surfing and boogie boarding at high tide (low tide exposes quite a lot of rocks but makes for nice beach combing or running). We printed out the tide table and organized our day around the tides. Other guests indicated that they could walk the beach from Dominicalito to Dominical but, looking at the rocks to the north I am not so sure how nice that walk would be. It's an easy drive but we were happiest enjoying the calmer waters at Dominicalito.
We have been told that this has been one of the driest seasons ever, likely due to El Nino and there is a bit of a water issue right now. Today, if you are looking for a waterfall, Poza Azul is pretty much dry (there is a pool of water but only a trickle coming down the rocks). Instead, drive up toward San Isidro and pay the US$8 p/p to walk into Nauyaca falls - which are exactly as advertised - gorgeous and refreshing. We spotted many Toucans along the walk. Hopefully the rainy season will help replenish the water that is feeding the rivers and water table in this area.
As others have reported Dave is wonderful (Deb is away in CO) and has provided us with everything to make our stay wonderful (if something isn't quite right just ask and he will take care of it) I just spent an hour this morning with Dave out on the rock outcrop on Domincalito beach swapping stories and enjoying the views that run all the way up to Manuel Antonio. We have met him almost everyday around 5 pm (beer o'clock) to share stories while cooling off in the pool.
For those on their way to Olas Hermosa - you will have a great time (don't pack much more than your swim suits). If I come back to the southern cost in CR I will most definitely book into Olas Hermosa.

Thanks for updating the review with your detailed report. I am going to miss our pool rendezvous' and pre-sunset conversations. It has been great being on vacation with you which is one of the great benefits for having the studio as a vacation rental. After your morning surf, I will have to show you the jungle trail that leads to the south end of Playa Dominicalito. It bypasses the rock outcropping near Por Que No, although going the rock way can be exciting. I suspect you will be back and you can go for a run to town and get a smoothie at Mongo Congo. Having great guests like your family makes getting up each morning feel like I am on holiday too. Hurry back.
About the host
Hosted by Dave West
We are Costa Rican residents (not to be confused with citizens) and own a real estate company in Dominical. Deb and I maintain homes in Alaska and Colorado where we spend time doing a lot of outdoor activities that both places have to offer. We look forward to sharing some guacamole and margarita’s when you are here. I also make killer nacho's.
Why they chose this property
On Deb's first visit to Costa Rica she traveled the entire Pacific Coast and instantly fell in love with the topography here in Dominical as soon as she crossed over the Rio Baru. The people we meet that live here and visit are some of the most interesting we have met and so it is the people that keep us here (the fact that it is still relatively undiscovered piece of paradise is not a bad draw either)
What makes this property unique
By being a local business owner with a small real estate office on the first level, you will get personal service regarding reservations for activities and a source to answer the many questions you might have. We know how special holidays are and we want you to spend your time enjoying the area and not figuring out what to do (if oyu want to do anything).
