About this property

Northern Black Hills Escape

Our beautiful home is located just 4 miles south of historic Deadwood in the quiet and less touristy northern Black Hills. It is situated on 4 wooded acres with a stunning view as can be seen in the pictures. From the deck on a clear day you can see the highest peak in the Hills (Black Elk Peak) 30+ miles distant. Though close to town it feels very isolated with nary a single man-made light visible to the front. Chickadees, Nut Hatches, Woodpeckers, Squirrels and Chipmunks are constant visitors and most days deer and turkey will stop by to visit. If you’re looking for a quiet place to unwind and enjoy nature it’s the perfect place for you.

The comfortably furnished and nicely detailed space includes 2 wood burning stoves/fireplaces, hardwood/ slate floors and lots and lots of windows which can make you feel as though you're in a tree house. The home also features a mix of eclectic artwork and décor from time spent living and working overseas. Sliding doors off the great room and french doors off the master bedroom offer easy access to the extra-large multi-level outdoor deck with hot tub. Relaxing in the hot tub under the impressive night skies is an unforgettable way to unwind after a great day hiking in the Hills, visiting Mount Rushmore or the world-famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally or testing your luck in the Deadwood casinos.

The house has two independently accesible levels that do not connect via internal stairs. The upper level is the principal residence with a great room, a very spacious master bedroom, a mini-loft with a sleeping area and a full kitchen and laundry. The lower level originally was a garage and was redone into a very nice open living space with a king bed, 2 barnwood futons, a full bath and a microwave and fridge.

To preserve the tranquility of the setting and the neighborhood, the home will only be rented to folks interested in a low-key quiet getaway.

Additionally, I’m required by the covenants of my HOA to only rent to groups of 1 or more persons related to the other by blood, marriage, legal adoption or otherwise long-term committed relationship. So, given that restriction and as this is our home, we need to know a bit about who will be staying and for what purpose. Please provide these details in any request to rent. Great stay in the Hills!

We had a wonderful stay and really appreciated the excellent communication with the owners. The upstairs loft was perfect for our 11 year old and the primary bedroom was comfortable and luxurious. We made several meals in the kitchen that had everything we needed and used the hot tub a couple of times as well. Thank you!

We had a wonderful stay at Northern Black Hills. Very relaxing, quiet and peaceful. Tom was very responsive to my questions, checking in to make sure we were settled. Their home is comfortable, spotless and inviting. We enjoyed watching the many varieties of birds and the feeders and the frequent deer quests at night. A memorable stay with my two adult children. Peace and privacy. Upper level beautiful with everything one could want. Great decks and views of Custer and Black Elk Peaks. Fun chipmunk and bird watching plus a few deer and wild turkeys. Excellent stay for our 60th anniversary!! Look forward to a return visit soon.

Great place

It is a very nice place that is quiet and still very close to a highway and close to Lead and Deadwood , We took our adult family and pet it is nice to have a pet friendly house as well . Communication was done by texting for us and they were very good to work with even though we did not have any issues or extra correspondence, other than checking in and out would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone

Loved our Stay!

Tom's home had everything we wanted in a Black Hills place to stay: surrounded by pine trees, serene, spacious, clean, and comfortable. We looked forward to relaxing there after each day of exploring. We loved watching the birds, the wildlife, the stars, and the storms in the distance. The kitchen had everything we needed to make breakfasts and dinners. Tom was top-notch in communication! We chose the perfect place to stay!

Great getaway cabin in the mountains!

Tom was very hospitable and his home was lovely! We rented both the upstairs and downstairs which was nice because it gave everyone some privacy. The home was easy to locate following his instructions. There was plenty of wildlife to watch in the yard with deer, squirrels and chipmunks. We love the Deadwood area and we loved staying at Tom’s home! Very clean, comfortable, everything you need for a great vacation! Thanks for having us!

Beautiful house.

Beautiful house and property! Tom is awesome to work with! Even had a care package waiting for us! Only problem was there was NO air conditioning…I don’t think this is usually a problem, but it was hotter than normal. Also, the basement sleeping quarters could have been cleaner! Overall a wonderful experience!!!

Perfect Cabin for South Dakota Sight Seeing

We had a group of 9 adults staying on our trip and it was the perfect cabin for us. It was secluded enough to feel like you weren't bothering anyone, but it was also a quick drive to gas stations, restaurants or other activities. There was plenty of sleeping space for everyone and the deck was a perfect gathering spot to eat, drink and look out into the nature that surrounds the cabin. It was also perfectly located for what we did this trip. We were here for about 3 days and were able to go to the Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Devil's Tower. Nothing was more than about an hour away from this location. There was also plenty of scenic drives and hiking trails to keep yourself occupied in the area. Tom was very responsive to any questions we had and even left a welcoming gift and a hand written card. It was very appreciated. I would not hesitate to stay here again if I am ever back in the Black Hills.

A perfect escape

We absolutely loved this gorgeous cabin in the hills. It is completely private- you truly feel like you're away from it all! It is beautifully updated and decorated with all of the amenities at home. In fact, it is even BETTER than the photos! Tom is a fantastic and caring host who goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is perfect. Our two kids age 5 and 8 who stayed in the downstairs apartment. We used a baby monitor in case they needed us in the night, as the only way to enter/exit is to go outside and use the deck stairs. The kids loved having their own space! Rather than going out to eat we grilled on the deck every night and enjoyed the amazing views, the stars, and of course the hot tub- which is hot and perfect after a long day. We all slept like babies in the comfy beds. We can't wait to stay here again. Thanks Tom!

Peaceful Getaway with Gorgeous Views and a Thoughtful HostWe had a fantastic stay at this beautiful home in Deadwood! First and foremost, we truly appreciate Tom and his family for opening up their stunning home to guests. It had all the necessary amenities to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable—from a well-stocked kitchen to cozy living spaces and a relaxing hot tub.The property is nestled in a serene setting with breathtaking views and plenty of wildlife—perfect for morning coffee on the deck or evening stargazing. We did run into a minor issue with the hot tub, but Tom was quick to respond and troubleshoot. He even went above and beyond by offering us a 50 credit to the Chubby Chipmunk in town, which was such a thoughtful and generous gesture.If you're looking for a relaxing escape with great scenery, a comfortable home, and a host who truly cares about your experience, this is the place. We’d absolutely book again!

Great Black Hills Getaway!

The Cabin is in a great location, isolated but close to a main road. Tom is fantastic and a great communicator in making sure you feel like it is your home away from home. The three separate deck spaces provided plenty of views for the different parts of the days. Will stay here again.

Our family had an amazing experience at this property. The purpose of the vacation was to reunite after the long lockdown and to celebrate the 50 year Anniversary of our Parents. It was a very special time to be together again and to be in such an epic location! Tom was so kind and helpful during our stay, and was always available for any questions through text or calls. At our arrival a gift of cheese, wine and fruit were there to welcome us ! It was a very thoughtful gesture and appreciated. Our party of five consisted of a retirement aged couple, a middle aged couple and a teenager. The master bedroom was perfect for the older members of the group as it offered privacy and access with an amazing view. There were plenty of accessible amenities for our Matriarch who has limited mobility, and her experience was positive and healing as she was able to take part in 90 % of what this property has to offer. A yoga step was purchased at the beginning of our stay to ease access to the step in the garage. She especially enjoyed the ability to eat family style meals and took advantage of the porch off of the great room while playing old hymns on a keyboard outside. Very special! There were no complaints or concerns from the Patriarch regarding the location or quality of the time spent at this property. He and his Grandson were able to spend time together cooking and learning the ins and outs of photography while utilizing the scenery and wildlife so ubundant as their subjects. He was impressed with the uniqueness of the home and the premium materials used within. He enjoyed the hotub daily and slept well during his stay. Our teenager very much enjoyed the space and thought the cabin was quite relaxing. As a photographer, he captured birds that seemed to not be worried in the slightest of their human counterparts. Spending time being with his Grandparents was irreplaceable. The Middle aged couple had the basement abode and were able to be close without cloistering, be musical without disturbing, and found the space to be just what was needed to unwind creatively. In summary, our experiences were personal and healing. The subtle energies of the area coupled with the attention to detail and art throughout the home made our stay very memorable. It is obvious that mindfulness made this escape one of a kind. Thank you for sharing your home with us! We hope to visit again and please know that each person was affected positively by their stay.
