We loved this cozy island retreat. Hosts were fantastic, easy to get to and once we were there we were all alone one our private island - the dogs loved it.
Place was awesome! Very peaceful and serene.
Enjoyed swimming right off the deck, boating fishing etc.
Highly recommend

Thank you. It was great meeting you and your family and we're glad that you enjoyed your stay! Also, thank you for leaving the place in tip top condition, it's greatly appreciated.
What a special place. It's not every day that you need to take a boat to get from the car to your rental. The only thing to keep in mind is that the pontoon is not included.

Thank you Eric. We hope you enjoyed your stay. The boat trip is the most challenging/adventurous part, but we are willing to assist you in whatever way we can.
We continue to love this place as the ultimate unplug and recharge experience. Other than upgrading the downstairs bed, there's nothing we would change. And the new boat is a lovely upgrade for sunset cruising. We'll be back!
I booked this location for a Father & Son fishing trip. It was perfect! Over the week we caught over 20 fish a day in the pond. Between the boat and the kayaks we explored the entirety of Fern Lake.
We also had an opportunity to fly fish one of the best rivers only 20 minutes away.
The Camp was in excellent shape. Perfect for our trip or an entire family!!!
We loved the privacy, the quiet, the ability for our dog to roam off leash, the ease of swimming and boating, the cheerily lit pathways, the cozy cottage. It was just what we'd hoped for.

Relaxing!
Great place! Loved kayaking, fishing, and swimming. Did get cell reception with AT&T, but not fast enough for streaming. Only real complaint is that the size boat to come to the island is pretty tiny for having to bring all your food supplies, towels and blankets. With 2 adults and one dog, we had to take 3 round trips to drop our stuff.

Brittany, thank you for your review and we will try to make improvements to either the size of boat or linen requirements in the future due to your suggestions. We are glad you enjoyed your stay! We have also found AT&T to have the best receptions so far.
We enjoyed every second of this vacation on the island--to the point that we extended our stay! The lake and view is beauitful, the camp is quite comfy--you feel instantly relaxed---and the island itself is a nice retreat to get away from it all! We enjoyed fishing, eating some nice small mouth bass, campfires, boating around the island, watching an Eagle eat his meal right in front of the camp on the rocks, listening to the loons and waking up to the sun rising in the am with a cup of coffee in hand. Accomodations were perfect for us---you will NOT be dissapointed. The camp is clean and well appointed as an ADK camp. We LOVED it! Thanks Steve!

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay, and it sounds like you made the most of it. Thank for being such respectful and gracious guests. It is always a pleasure to serve people like you.
Such a wonderful property, with every water toy you could possibly need. So much time and thought has been put into the property to ensure all guests are entertained and taken care of. Aside from the boats listed there are floats galore to enjoy the beautiful water out the front door. A wide selection of games for quieter times. What we enjoyed most was watching the bald eagle perch in the islands treetops and hunt in the rocks outside, so amazing. The loons were a delight to watch and listen to as we sipped coffee in the morning and relaxed in the evening. Simply beautiful.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. The eagles are always amazing to see so close and it's nice to hear you soaked in the relaxation. Thank you for being such gracious guests.
We truly enjoyed our time at the cabin. It was an incredibly unique getaway. The boats, kayaks, canoes etc. were great! The cabin is perfect and the island provides a wonderful getaway. The deck and firepit areas were a great way to relax. And don’t be scared about the outhouses. :)
Getting back and forth on the boat was easy. The Boston whaler is a nice stable little boat and it’s easy to operate. Plus it’s awesome for fishing. It would be nice if the boat had some lights or maybe a flashlight on it for evening arrival or if you go out to dinner and come back to the island in the dark. We brought flashlights with us so it wasn’t an issue at all.
If you like to fish make sure to bring your fishing gear. The fishing was awesome!
My family had a fabulous stay at this cozy camp, which was exactly as advertised! Steve was very communicative and answered my questions before I even asked!
The island was amazing! We spent time on the various docks, swimming and kayaking. Watching the loons, an eagle, a beaver, and chipmunks was so much fun. The water was clean and clear and refreshing. The fire pit was a hit as well!
The camp had everything we needed! The beds were comfortable, and the tv and dvd player and board games came in handy on rainy days. The outhouses were clean and well lit.
The use of the Whaler made our comings and goings very enjoyable. It was reliable and had plenty of room for us and our stuff.
Lastly, I highly recommend this camp for the location. It’s close to so many wonderful hiking trails and Lake Placid.

Thank you, we're glad that you had such a great time! I enjoyed meeting your nice family, and it was great having you as a guest. Thank you for the easy communication and for leaving the camp in such great shape...even the outhouses were swept! Thanks for being the first guests to try out our electric Boston Whaler, and it was even better that you were experienced boaters. Thank you for being excellent guests and so glad you enjoyed your time!

Rustic deluxe! Great family getaway, peace and quiet, short drive to resort towns
We had a great time staying at this lovely cabin on a lovely little island on a lovely little lake. The row boat and battery-powered motor made it easy to get four people and all of our gear from shore to island in only two trips. There are maybe 30 houses around the edge of the lake, with mountains beyond. One end has a small beach (and a sandy bottom that extends at least 150 ft into the lake before the water is over your head). Loons, frogs, and other little critters galore. The outhouses are deluxe, with a sink outside; the hot shower is indoors. The house plumbing offers running lake water; rather than carrying in drinking water, we used a backpacking pump filter just to be safe. The water is sweet and clear. We had a blast using the kayaks and canoe at the cabin in between our excursions to Lake Placid and other towns in the area. (Check out Outdoor Experience for awesome zip lining!) A big fire pit at one end of the island was a delight, with the loons calling, and the moonlight reflecting off the lake. The house is also well-stocked with books, games, and information about local wildlife and local hikes. We had a small issue with plumbing during our stay, but Steve came out and fixed it promptly, and was a pleasure to deal with throughout the booking process and the stay. It's rare that we return to a place we've been before, but we may just make an exception for this terrific property. The only change I would make is a better mattress/box spring in the first floor bedroom, which is the only sleeping area with true privacy.

Elizabeth, thank you for your review and we are so happy that you enjoyed your stay! You are welcome back anytime. Your review is also noted for improvements to the mattress, thank you!
My family of 6 (2 adults and 4 kids) had an amazing time at the cabin on the island. The sandy swim area was perfect for the smaller kids and there was a huge variety of activities to do. My brother and his family live locally and came over 2 days to spend the days with us and enjoyed it as well. My older 2 kids even took the kayaks out a few times. Along with the kids, my dog enjoyed being able to roam freely. I would recommend this beautiful island getaway to any family.
This is the perfect place to unwind from all of life's craziness. Superior communication from owner!

Thank you for being such a gracious and amazingly generous guest 2 years in a row. The cookies you made were some of the best we've ever had, and you left the place so clean again! We're so happy that you were able to enjoy the place to unwind and relax. You are welcome back anytime.
We had the absolute best time ever. From the quick responses before we arrived to the above and beyond help from Steve getting to and from the island we couldn't have asked for a better host. The cottage was adorable, super clean and full of everything we could have possibly needed. Our kids loved the freedom to roam as did our dogs. We caught a ton of large mouth bass and they were delicious. The view was amazing but waking up to the sunrise was breathtaking. The kayaks were so fun and the fire pit was a perfect way to end our nights. The outhouses were so clean and it didn't even feel like we were "roughing it". Our kids didn't want to leave and neither did we. We also enjoyed going the ease of a day trip to Lake Placid and whiteface mountain. We literally had the BEST time and can't wait to visit again. Steve was literally the best host going out of his way to make sure our stay was easy and it was with all his help.

You guys were the some of the best guests! You have an amazing family, I enjoyed learning a little bit about you all and hearing about how your son found your vacation spot. I also believe your family has won the award for the largest amount of gear brought to the island! I'm so glad you all enjoyed your stay. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all, hearing your stories, and I was more than happy to help you out. Hope to see you again!
My family loved staying here. The property is well taken care of. The wooded island pathways are lit up with strings of lights. The cabin and decks give you the experience of being right in nature. We swam, kayaked and hung out on the dock most of the time. We hope to go back.

We could not have asked for a better vacation spot. Steve was a pleasure and everything was as described. None of us wanted to leave. The kids (12,10,7,7,5) are all planning our trip back for next year. It was even suggested by several kids that we buy them the island. We loved every minute on the island. Thank you!

Haha. Your kids are funny! Thank you, we are so glad that you loved your time there and you are more than welcome to come back. Thank you for leaving the place so nice, I never would have known that 5 kids had been there!
It really is a beautiful and private spot for a peaceful relaxing escape. You can enjoy the lake right off the dock, with a great view of the mountains on the far shore. But it is just a couple minutes to the dock so you can get out and explore the mountains. The island is charming, with 2 docks, fire pit, boats aplenty, and a fairylit path around it. Be ready for a bit of rustic living, but I was pleased by the lack of internet for forcing me to unwind. It was a great week for my family, I would love to go again.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay, and love how clean and well maintained you left the place when you left. We would welcome you back anytime. Thank you for staying with us.
Excellent get away for those who want to deplug and enjoy nature and are not high maintenance people requiring all creature comforts. Our family had a terrific time and we took full advantage of the lake and also found time to hike the surrounding hills that dot the lake. Wood burning stove was an awesome amenity for the cooler nights in June..

About the host
Hosted by Steve
This island has been in the family since 1983 and we have protected and cherished this place since then. In 2018 we expanded parts of the island to incorporate a wedding venue which has now added to the island an additional lakefront viewing platform, a large 30x50 ft open area for tenting or outdoor games, a scenic fire pit area, beautiful string lights throughout the island, and an additional luxurious outhouse with outdoor sink. Soon we hope to also have an outdoor shower installed.
Why they chose this property
A unique opportunity to enjoy a relaxing experience on an island
What makes this property unique
You have the entire 1.5 acre island to yourself with the sounds of loons, beavers, and bull frogs, the sites of bald eagles in the trees above, loons swimming in front, ducks doing their thing, beavers swimming and flapping their tails and various fish all over. The serenity of no adjacent neighbors and the gorgeous site of the rising sun is also a unique feeling.
