Fawnlea Cottage was a beautifully kept and well fitted property situated on the edge of Staindrop village. While the village itself had one each of the required businesses, a pub, a supermarket, a tea-room, etc., it is only 6 miles from the much larger Barnard Castle. We were there for a week and had absolutely no complaints. It was exactly as described and new-pin clean. It's biggest plus was undoubtedly our hosts, they were most attentive, very friendly and most helpful with great local knowledge. Our daughter and husband had two dogs and the small enclosed 'yard' was very useful and easy to keep clean. We have no hesitation in recommending Fawnlea to anyone who wants a quiet holiday spot close to interesting locations. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

The cottage and owners were very nice and welcoming.
The cottage and owners were very nice and welcoming. However unless you are prepared to drive 9 miles to the nearest town there is no where to have an evening meal which was disappointing as we had not planned to have to cook an evening meal most nights. We had booked a dog friendly cottage and this is a dog friendly cottage in so many ways.
We had booked a dog friendly cottage and this is a dog friendly cottage in so many ways. But a BIG issue for us was that there was no enclosed area for our dog. In fact the shared courtyard garden had gates that were permanently open and led straight out onto a fairly busy road. If you are holidaying without a dog then this cottage is in a superb location for exploring the area.
