Tidal Retreat is a contemporary, first floor apartment situated in a superb location, just a short walk away from the bustling heart of Whitby on the Yorkshire Heritage Coast. The communal grounds surrounding the property have some lovely areas to enjoy the stunning views over the River Esk. The contemporary interior has been decorated to a very good standard with a good sized open plan living/kitchen area, and Tidal Retreat even boasts a private parking space. It is a haven for walkers and cyclists, and many walks can be accessed from your doorstep, including a riverside walk along the River Esk and a lovely coastal walk along the disused railway line between Whitby and Scarborough, via Robin Hoods Bay, known as the Cinder Track. Whitby has so much to offer all year round and is a very popular place to visit with its regular festivals and events such as the Whitby Regatta and the bi-annual Goth Weekend. There is a large selection of pubs, quaint antique and gift shops and famous fish and chip shops. The local tour bus is an excellent way of visiting some of Whitby’s highlights including the stunning abbey and St Mary’s Church, positioned on the cliff top where you can enjoy spectacular views over Whitby and out to sea. There are many pretty resorts dotted along the coast including Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay which are great for exploring our maritime history including Captain James Cook, smugglers and pirates.
Tidal Retreat is also the perfect base for exploring the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Travel by steam train into the heart of ’Heartbeat’ country, or take a fishing trip out to sea on one of the many boat trips that leave the harbour. The Cleveland Way snakes along the coast and is a must for those who enjoy the great outdoors. Falling Foss Waterfall, Roseberry Topping and Sutton Bank are just some of the natural beauty attractions in the area, whilst the medieval walled city of York is just an hour’s drive or train ride away with its National Railway Museum, Jorvik Viking Centre or just exploring the medieval cobbled shopping area. Beach 400 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

Perfect
The apartment was perfect, could not fault it at all. Nothing fancy, nothing themed, clean and tidy and modern, what more does one need, that is the most important thing for us. 10 -15 minute walk to the shopping area. Sadly the communal entrance area stank of animal urine, I have cats and I am accustomed to nasty smells at times, but I feel that this problem could be off putting to other visitors. I believe this needs to be addressed with owner of the animals. I can assure that there was no smell affecting the landing upstairs where the apartment is.

Been to this apartment 3 times and love it. The location is excellent, close to the centre of Whitby with all its great pubs and wonderful walks but in a very quiet spot so it is very peaceful. The big bonus is the designated parking spot as parking is at a premium and expensive otherwise. We hope to return here next year as there is nothing to fault really.

Good appartment in good location , good base to take advantage of the area, with bonus of parking space (essential when staying in Whitby). Whitby is a great place offering a variety of things to do and places to visit. Fabulous place for taking the dog to as great walks available around Whitby and good beaches where you can let the dog off lead. (Restricted areas are well sign posted) Many cafes and pubs are dog friendly.
