About this property
Cabin with ocean views, minutes from Acadia and Bar Harbor
Location:
TheGuest House is located on the north coast of Mount Desert Island overlooking Frenchman Bay. The cabin is just 7 minutes (2.5 miles) from the Acadia National Park Visitor Center and 13 minutes (5 miles) from Bar Harbor. There are fun and safe bicycle routes to both the park and town.
This cabin enjoys beautiful views and is about 50 yards from the communal cliffside deck with a picnic table overlooking Frenchman Bay. From here, you can enjoy spectacular sunrises and sunsets, watch lobster boats working the bay in the morning, and often see seabirds diving for fish. On occasion, guests spot dolphins or seals in the bay, and sometimes even a bald eagle passing overhead. It’s a perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee, relax with a glass of wine in the evening, or have a peaceful picnic lunch while taking in the scenery.
From the wall of windows across the front of the cabin, you look out through tall pines to Frenchman Bay below. The view includes the water, the neighboring shoreline and cottage, and the ever-changing activity on the bay. The trees frame the scene beautifully, giving you a sense of being tucked into the woods while still enjoying clear glimpses of the water beyond. In the evening, the light over the bay filters through the branches, creating a warm, peaceful atmosphere that makes the living room a perfect place to relax and take it all in.
A Note About the Cabin (Important):
The Guest House is a rustic, uninsulated cabin. If it gets chilly outside, it will get chilly inside by morning. The wood stove provides excellent heat, and we also supply two space heaters and electric blankets to keep you comfortable.
The Cabin & Amenities:
- A large living area with kitchen (stove/oven, refrigerator, sink)
- Eating area and sitting area with a wood stove
- Two bedrooms, sleeping up to five guests
- Master bedroom: Queen bed
- Second bedroom: Twin-over-queen bunk bed
- WiFi and a TV for streaming from your devices
- Large covered porch for relaxing
- Charcoal grill
- Parking next to the cabin
Why Stay With Us:
This is a peaceful and quiet retreat. We’ve been renting The Guest House and its sister cabin, The Pines, for over 40 years, and many of our guests have been returning year after year. People come back for the tranquility, the natural beauty, and the simple joy of this special place.
It’s an ideal spot for couples or families, and pets are welcome. As pet owners ourselves, we understand how important it is to bring them along.
Rental Details:
- Rentals are Saturday to Saturday
- The property also includes a second cabin about 100 yards uphill and a house about 50 yards downhill towards the water.
Beach Access Notice (Very Important):
The stairs to the beach were destroyed by storms in 2023, and there is currently no direct beach access. The cliffs, views, decks, and overlooks remain fully accessible and just as beautiful.
The Guest House has a sister cabin on the property, The Pines (VRBO #887970) and the Baycliff Cottage (VRBO# 1678236).

About the host
Hosted by Kevin Nealon
My parents started vacationing at Baycliff over 50 years ago. Back then, we’d drive up from New Jersey (Metuchen, Turnpike exit 10) and spend two weeks here. I have fond memories of deep-sea fishing, hiking, sightseeing, and other touristy activities, but my favorite was skipping rocks into the sea—quite a challenge with waves, wind, and seaweed!
In 1973, the property went up for sale, and my dad immediately bought it. We began staying for a month at a time in the cottage, which wasn’t much larger than the cabins back then. One year, we brought all seven of our cats and a raccoon I was fostering! For over 40 years now, we’ve been renting out the two cabins. The picture above is of me, my two daughters, and my mom. Until 2019, during the summer months, mom would stay at Baycliff and take care of the cabins and guests.
Mount Desert Island offers so many attractions. The carriage roads are perfect for cycling, the hiking trails are spectacular, and if you're into birding, we have segulls, loons, hummingbirds and warblers - and on occasion an osprey or bald eagle! Bar Harbor and the surrounding areas also boast some excellent restaurants. This truly is a special place.

Why they chose this property
Acadia National Park Headquarters is just 2.5 miles away, and Bar Harbor is only five miles from your doorstep. The cabin is situated in a quiet location, nestled among pine trees, providing a tranquil atmosphere that will help you destress. Whether it's the peaceful surroundings, the ocean breeze, the cool, clean air, the wind rustling through the trees, or the soothing sounds of nature, you'll find true relaxation here.
What makes this property unique
There is a communal deck with a picnic bench on the cliff, where you can witness the ever-changing character of Frenchman Bay. Enjoy breathtaking sunrises and sunsets; on sunny days, watch the clouds race across the sky, while on moody, overcast days, observe the approach of a storm. It's a captivating story of nature's transformations.
The beach also shifts with the ebb and flow of the tide, exposing boulders and seaweed at low tide, creating a tranquil, ocean-inspired meditation garden.
