About this property
'Pond House' on Huge Horse Farm; Great for Young Families: Escape the City.
Vacation on our 600 acre horse and cattle farm and stay in our Pond House, on the shore of one of the most beautiful ponds you can imagine. Children and adults enjoy fishing, hiking the woodland trails, watching the constant activities of nature around the pond, watching the horses and cattle, and horseback riding with our neighbors at Oakland Heights.
During hot weather, enjoy the free swimming hole in our creek. Reserve a time (90 minutes) at our Party Patio to enjoy its Hot Tub, corn hole and other games, and its additional firepit. Bring your bathing suits.
The Pond House has two bedrooms (one queen, one bunk bed with double bed on bottom), plus a den with queen-sized pull-out couch. It is professionally decorated and altogether charming.
The best feature, however, is the screened back deck overlooking the gorgeous pond.
Also see our Milker's Cottage (vrbo #766635), Manor House (vrbo #90926), Barn Apartment (vrbo#1047051) and Servants' Cottage (vrbo #442721). These are all on the same farm. The Milker's cottage is similar in size and price to the Pond House, so if the Pond House shows unavailable, please be sure to check the Milker's Cottage.

As always, the Pond House has been one of our favorite places to visit over the last several years. It is cozy, clean and calming. We look forward to it every time.
The view of the pond from the back screened-in porch was lovely, and the view of horse pastures from the front window was serene. Perfect setting for a quick weekend getaway -
Exactly what we were looking for to escape the DC area. Loved everything about the property-the cottage was awesome, the pond was unbelievably beautiful. Look forward to returning.
The place was amazing. Large property that made us feel like we were the only ones around. It was clean quiet and relaxing. We will book this again in the future.
4th year at Wolf Trap. Will be back in 2024.
Great venue.

Liked: Amenities, property conditions & facilities, communication
Pros: Serene location, picturesque pond in backyard, great vibes and friendly staff. We were here for a wedding and had a wonderful time.
Cons: Older farm dog off leash on property-roams around and bit our friend’s dog, causing him to bleed, Pond house cute but could be cleaner-quite dusty.

Amazing! Great views!
I surprised my wife with a random overnight trip. She had a blast and was super happy! Can’t wait to go back! Horses everywhere which was really awesome! We definitely didn’t want to leave! The farm was nice to walk around with our morning coffee and take it all in! Such a relaxing place to visit

So glad it worked out well for you and your wife. Hope you get to come back during warm weather months, on when everything is green.
Place was amazingly peaceful, serene and very clean.
Our lab jumped in pond 15 seconds after pulling up. He loved the freedom this farm offers. Hated to leave--in town-do eat at Barbeque Exchange--best food ever.
Thanks Tina, Keith and entire staff.
The scenery is so peaceful and relaxing. Who doesn’t want to wake up to horses playing in a field? Plenty to do with fishing at the pond, basketball hoop, game room and places to hike. Pond house was a great place to stay and we loved sitting on the porch. Check in and check out was very easy and the hostess was great communicating instructions. Don’t miss this one!!
Took our 2 dogs and had a wonderful relaxing few days. Husband caught some fish out of a couple of the ponds. Let the dogs play in the stream at the swimming hole. Relaxed on the porch and did a puzzle. Everyone was very nice and accomodating. There are employees at the farm but we had our privacy. Was a great get away....would highly recommend if you are looking to kick back and relax.
Our stay was amazing! Very family friendly including the dog! Unfortunately we couldnt access the game room (however, I appreciate that our safety came first) due to a wasps nest in there. They did make sure the bikes and fishing poles were out and accessible! There is so much tonsee and do! Our home had games in it as well!!The hot tub was not in working order but it was also 90 degrees i could not have cared less about the hot tub.The swimming hole was absolutely fantastic and natures own air conditioner! The property is beautiful and staff was very friendly! The kids loved seeing and petting the horses. We even cut up apples so they could feed them! We will most definitely be back!!
We loved our short stay at the farm and loved the cute little pond house even more! We had everything we needed and then some. There was a great 'welcome guide' that the owners had created with tons of information about the area and the property that we really appreciated. We could go exploring around the property itself, visit with the horses right outside our door (which our daughter particularly loved), take a quick trip to the mountains, or visit nearby attractions such as Monticello. At night it was wonderful to sit out on the screened in porch and listen to the frogs and crickets ,or hang out by the fire pit and make s'mores and look up at the sky and check for constellations- something we don't get to see much of at home in the city. It all made for a much needed, memorable, and enjoyable get-away. We hope to visit again soon!

We checked for bedbug signs after this guest left three & 1/2 months ago and found none. This very popular cottage has hosted over a dozen additional guest groups since her stay, with no complaints or reports. Bedbugs can be picked up and brought home on your clothes from a casual visit to a friend’s home, and in many other ways. Our staff is very experienced and from prior employment knows how to identify bedbugs. We have never had a case of confirmed bedbugs at any of our places at Wolftrap Farm, though we have had a few cases of “mistaken identity”.
Also, if this guest picked up bedbugs in early October from the Pond House, she would not have had to wait until late January to have them at her house.
We had a wonderful stay at the pond house. The house was well stocked, was clean, bedding comfy, and was very cool to go to bed with the sound of crickets and wake up to watching the horses running wild. The staff was wonderful and we really enjoyed Mr. Sommers and all the barn animals and interactions. My kids had experiences of a lifetime… feeding a baby cow, holding puppies, interacting with horses, etc. They also loved roaming the land, playing in the game barn, riding the bikes, and enjoying the beauty of the farm. We fished, made s’mores, and watched the sunset everyday.
We did several day trips- to Charlottesville and to hikes, and did horse back riding locally.
Great times! Thank you!

Serene Location
The Pond house is beautifully set by a pond. The attractions are the hikes in the woods, the horse paddocks to say hi to horses (bring carrots and apples), and the serenity of it all.
The house is nicely decorated, and well appointed. There is wood for the fire in the evening, so the hosts are thoughtful.
I marked down two stars because of the following:
(1) the property listing says it has a hot tub, which is true, but the hot tub is at the manor house up the road a ways, and reserved for the guests of the Manor. So, its not very practical in the winter.
(2) Most important. The property listing says Wifi, but again that is for the manor house, and not always available for the Pond house. We expected to use it but were told it was not available.

Our vrbo and Homeaway listings have the boxes checked for "Hot Tub" . It shows up in the listing like this: Pool/Hot Tub: Hot Tub . . .
When you hover over this, there is a pop up box that states ""There is a hot tub up the hill at the Manor House. Pond House guests may arrange to use." The box for "Shared Hot Tub" is also checked. On this, I feel we are being penalized for the way vrbo and Homeaway display (or does not plainly display) the accurate information we provided. Perhaps we should remove all reference to the potential to use the hot tub, given the way the information displays. We felt it was something we could offer for free as a benefit to Pond House guests, but if the information we provide about it is not being discovered, we will delete it from the listing.
Regarding the mobile hot spots for internet access, that is our fault for not adding more of them. We now have 5 homes on the farm, and we have to add more hot spots to keep up with demand. We added another one this week.
We are glad you liked the Pond House and the farm itself.

Perfect mix of farm and nature, great for young families
We had a lovely stay at the farm! We have a pre-walker (1) and a toddler (3) and were looking for a place that could accommodate both - a tall order. This place fit the bill perfectly, but could easily entertain older kids. There's a whole barn with games, tons of bikes to use, 2 wagons for carting kids around, and lots of easy walking trails. The house itself was immaculate and modern and has everything you need, plus some extras - very well appointed. There was even a Christmas tree in the living room, which was a really nice touch. If you do need anything, Tina is very quick to respond. A tip: for some reason our carrier (Verizon) had bad cell service during the second half of our stay (?!), so we couldn't reach Tina to request the mobile hotspot. We finally did so we could at least connect our phones to wifi - you may wish to request it upon arrival. There's no dedicated wifi because broadband isn't available that far out, so this is a nice accommodation. When we did want to veg, there were some fun VHS and DVD videos available. Can't wait to go back!

Just like home - but better!
We found the Pond House online, and it looked like a pretty good place for us to stay - my husband and myself, our two girls, and my mother-in-law. We arrived just as the sun was setting on a warm March day - and immediately fell in love with the place! My two girls (ages and 8 and 11), found the tree swing at the bed and breakfast up the hill right away. We watched the horses, including a mother and her foal, and captured some absolutely beautiful photographs early in the morning from across the pond. We hiked, planned to use the hot tub (but decided it was too chilly), and watched brilliant stars from the deck each night. We were happily surprised to find that the fridge was fully-stocked with breakfast for our three-day stay! We brought some of our own food for lunches; used the full-size oven, dishwasher, and washer and dryer; and enjoyed Tina's laid-back warmth. The house was a perfect size for the five of us - just enough room for everyone, and big windows through which to watch the horses. We visited all three nearby Presidents' houses: Monticello, Montpelier and Ash Lawn-Highland. Montpelier had the best tour, in our opinion. Also loved the restaurant in the town of Orange that a docent at one of the houses recommended: Elmwood at Sparks. The Silk Mill Grille in same town was good too. Charlottesville was fun as well - lots of good food, and a great downtown walking mall.

Oh Rebecca, it is never too chilly for the hot tub! You will have to come back and add that to your adventure at the farm.
This is the second time I rented this property for the family Christmas.
We meet on Christmas eve for a meal and present exchange.
My spouse and I stay until the 26th or 27th with family visiting to enjoy the pond, trails and horses.
Great location and facility.
Already booked for 2023.
This is our 2nd year spending Thanksgiving in Virginia at the Wolftrap Farm. It is so beautiful, peaceful and good for the soul. We love waking up to the horses and falling asleep under the starry skies. We always have a fantastic experience visiting family in Cville and winding down on the farm after festivities.
We returned to Wolf Trap Farm after a previous stay at one of the other rentals onsite. We were looking for a place for a small family gathering. The space was comfortable for our group of 3 adults and 3 children, especially with the use of the outdoor spaces of the house and the property itself. We didn’t cook much while there, but found everything we needed if we had. We especially enjoyed the horses on the property.

About the host
Hosted by Keith Cuthrell
My wife and I live in Virginia Beach, where we have been buying and rehabbing run down properties for many years. In 2003, I was looking for a small 'getaway' property close to the mountains. I overshot and ended up purchasing a rundown old horse farm (584 acres), with three houses and two big barns. After 18 months of rehab work, we opened the houses for guests. Since then, we have added or converted four additional vacation rentals, two wedding reception facilities and a number of other amenities on the farm.
Why they chose this property
The Charlottesville area is one of the most beautiful parts of America. The landscape is just wonderful. You enjoy all the amenities of civilization, but in an area that is rural and dotted with small towns and villages. There is a reason why Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Governor Barbour, James Monroe and many other historical figures chose to live in this area, and why a number of modern jet setters have hideaways in the area today.
What makes this property unique
We love the back porch and pond. Its one of the most pleasant places on earth. The table and chairs out there get lots of use, both at mealtimes and whenever we wish to read or write. Our grandchildren love to stay at the Pond House because its so easy to step out the door and down to the edge of the pond, where they see lots of pond life (turtles, geese, fish and minnows, dragonflies, frogs, crayfish, red-winged blackbirds, hawks & eagles (yes we have golden eagles), etc.) and where they can depend on the fish to bite.
