Southern Tier Brewery is a very cool spot to visit, and we can recommend several awesome restaurants within a few minutes drive!
Bemus Point is also just a short drive or boat ride away!! There you will enjoy the very popular, newly opened Ellicottville Brewing Company along with many other restaurants and shops.
The historic Chautauaua Belle is a fully functioning paddle wheel steam ship that offers tours of the lake and the Chadakoin River. Super fun!
Regarding other eating establishments, here are some of my favorites:
The best breakfast (not fancy) is the Bemus Point Inn in downtown Bemus point. The kids will enjoy the super sized cinnamon roll.
Ryders Cup in Lakewood has great coffee and lattes, etc.
Wegman’s (2 min drive) Grocery on Fairmount Ave in Lakewood has a very good bakery.
Tim Hortons on Fairmount in Lakewood has great breakfast sandwiches, coffee, donuts etc.
Big Tree Ice Cream is a HUGE favorite in this area.
Pizza...the best is Sauce in Jamestown, Sicilian style. They have other takeout Italian as well. 716-488-7770.
There is a new restaurant in Lakewood called Stella ‘s, which has very good food. Reservations suggested.
The Bemus Point Golf Club & Tap House has a good menu and nice ambiance. 716-386-2893
The Anthenaeum Hotel in the Chautauqua Institution has farm to table dining options. It’s lovely to visit the grounds as well. Website: CHQ.org
I like ordering the family style salads at Panera Bread for takeout. The best is the Thai chicken salad, with fresh basil strips.

We had a fabulous stay in this house. It was clean, had plenty of room, well equipped kitchen.....we couldn't have asked for anything more. Jerry was the best and had answers for any questions we had. I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a fun peaceful stay on beautiful Lake Chautauqua!
What a great place for a family or small group to stay! Everything was wonderful, great location, communication with hosts was quick. Highly recommend for a great time!
With the lake just being steps away and a beautiful patio, fire circle, and another dining area, we were able to really, really enjoy the lake
The home was clean and comfortable and just what we needed for a relaxing family getaway!
Proximity to the Chautauqua institution, many good restaurants, and more made this a great spot
We had a great time with our kids and grandkids who enjoyed paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing and fishing right from the dock in the back yard. We had great cookouts and great views of the lake and sunsets. The house is well maintained and very pleasant. The only drawback were the stairs to the 2nd floor for my wife who uses a walker. Greg and Cindy were quick to respond to my text messages.
We had such a wonderful time staying at this property. The owner was very easy to communicate with. Check in was a breeze. The house was very inviting, the back yard (and front yard) was fantastic, and the lake location was great.
We brought our boat and the launch is literally within walking distance. We were able to dock it at the house for the week. We caught a ton of fish right off the dock, caught lots of fish from the boat, and had a great time tubing on this lake.
This was our first time at Chautauqua Lake, and we are already wanting to plan the next trip back!
Our stay was the first week of August. The property is well appointed and equipped. We made several meals in the kitchen which had good tools and appliances. Grill was easy to use. WIFI and televisions were also good; make sure to read the well written instructions to utilize the Spectrum app for local channels. Fire pit was nice, but the mosquitos were tenacious despite the use of copious amounts of insect repellant.Property is a 5-minute drive from Wegman's (large grocery store), Target and Walmart. Also, only 10 minutes from Southern Tier Brewery. We enjoyed Panama Rocks, The Comedy Center, The Lucy and Desi Museum and the Peak N' Peak high ropes course. Restaurants visited were average. Not a fault of the property or owner but be aware that the lake can be overgrown with vegetation. The community does its best to clear the vegetation, but this can add challenge to boating and swimming from the dock is not recommended. We did rent a boat, and we were able to manage. Boating/tubing north of Bemus point is recommended because the lake is deeper on the north end.
We loved our stay at this property. The owners were excellent and very easy to communicate with. The house was excellent - great space and very clean. Bedrooms were spacious. The backyard is incredible. We rented a boat and used the dock right off the yard. House is situated at the south end of the lake which we found to be much less crowded and relaxed. East access to boat gas right around the corner. Also located down the street from places like Wegman’s, Walmart, Starbucks, and Target. East access to places like Bemus Point. Backyard was amazing at night - building fires and watching the sunset. Thank you!
We stayed with a family group of eight, ranging in age from one to seventy-one years old. It was our second stay at this house, since our week last year was such a success.
The property is lovely, right on the lake, beautiful sunsets in the evening viewed from comfy easy chairs on the deck, or the fire pit on the lawn surrounded by Adirondack chairs, or the big picture windows in the living room.
Three adult couples were happy to have three full bathrooms available and a well-stocked kitchen. We were able to reach the host easily via text when we had a few questions.
Fun area with lots to do. A highlight for my young grandkids was Midway State Amusement Park. The little ones can go on all the rides multiple times with a $15.00 wristband with no waits for the rides.
I highly recommend this lovely property.
My family and I (ages 10 months to 61years old) stayed in this lovely lake house for 5 nights.
The house looks exactly as depicted in the photos in the listing.
Everything about this property was perfect. The kitchen had everything thing we could need. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds very comfortable. We loved the large dining table that was able to accommodate our entire family for nice dinners.
Every evening we were out at the fire pit enjoying s’mores and beautiful sunsets. A lot of fishing was done off the pier.
The only flaw, and not really a flaw, the grill stopped working during our stay. We contacted the owners and a new grill was there the next morning! Thanks
One of our very picky family members commented that they never felt the need to Clorox anything when they arrived because it was so clean.
If you choose this place you won’t be disappointed!

Not the best experience
Pro's. Beautiful home with a great outdoor area, lots of seating, lakefront with docking for your boat. Comfortable beds, plenty of hot water for showers
Con's. While the kitchen was well equiped, much of the cookware needs to be replaced especially frying pans and a very old and rusty toaster oven. While the beds were very comfortable, at this cost you don't expect to have to bring along bedding and towels for 10 people. If you have any Mobility problems be aware that the stairs to the second floor where all 4 bedrooms are located are very tall and steep. You would definitely need a safety gate or two of you have small children in your group. There are beautiful French doors leading out to the main deck but the screen door hinge was broken so we were unable to use them. We reported this to the owner on the morning of our second day and she replied soon after that she would send her maintenance person over but that never happened during our 5 nights there. The gas grill outside was very dirty and rusty inside..needs attention. There are a row of adirondack chairs near the dock facing the water .... a really nice area to sit and enjoy the lake but everyone of the chairs are broken...one unsafe to sit in and when my son sat in one of the "campfire chairs" it actually broke in half causing him to fall to the ground. So while this is a beautiful home, it could use a little TLC
One more thing to mention ( and we realize not the fault of the property owner) during our stay lake Chautauqua was experiencing a toxic algae bloom and the water along the home looked like pea green soup. All of the beaches on the lake were closed due to this...a big disappointment to our 4 grandchildren! We were in the area in early June and decided to take a look at the property after making our reservation. We were very pleased with our selection, the water was crystal clear at the time so imagine our disappointment when We arrived in mid August to find green water. We met a man in town who told us it happens every August so I guess "buyer beware"

Response from VrboOwner on 27 Mar, 2020
It is our greatest intention to provide a pleasant experience for our guests and we do everything reasonably possible to ensure the condition of our lake house is A plus. Immediately following your visit, you wrote the following:
“Had a very nice time, weather was good warm days cool evenings able to sleep with the windows open which was nice until the ducks woke us up.Your home is lovely …thank you.”
We appreciate these remarks and they are typical of the feedback we normally receive from our guests. Because your more recently posted feedback listed specific concerns, we thought it warranted a reply.
Regarding the broken campfire chair, we offer no fewer than 18 chairs to sit upon outside, not including the chairs around outdoor dining table and the heavy chairs around the fire pit on the deck, along with the matching loveseat. The chairs that we prefer people to use around the campfire were in good condition when we stacked and left them for our guests, so we are not certain why one broke when your grandson sat on it. We certainly have removed it from our offering.
Our kitchen has loads and loads of bakeware, stock pots, 2 coffee pots, a crock pot, blender, trays, griddle, pots and pans, silverware, bar ware and dishes etc etc. Most of these items are like new and all are fully functional. If you found one frying pan that was not your favorite, there were several others to choose from, including a heavy cast-iron skillet. The toaster oven is not old; however, it recently was scorched and will certainly be replaced. The outside grill is less than four years old and is cleaned after each guest’s stay.
Our listing clearly shows that there are stairs required to be taken to the four bedrooms on the second story. This home was built by a custom builder 20 years ago, and was built to code. The stairs have a typical 7-inch rise that you would find in any other home today.
Lastly, there is a one year-old set of Anderson French doors leading out to a brand new deck. When you informed me that a hinge on one of the screen doors was bent, my maintenance man inspected it that week and informed us that a special part needed to be ordered. In the meantime, the door remained fully functional and subsequently used by other guests without problem.
Regarding the algae bloom, this is an unforeseeable lake occurrence throughout lakes in the Midwest. Many persons are working to correct this issue at Lake Chautauqua thankfully!
3 couples enjoyed our stay here. We had several meals in the house, easily seated at the dining room table, using the counter as a buffet for food. Used the grill and patio one night when weather was nice, even built a fire in the pit. We made several day trips, Niagara Falls, Lake Erie and wineries and of course, a day in Jamestown visiting Luci and Desi museum.. highly recommend this property!
Stayed with our family of 6 adults and two small kids (4 years old and infant). We had a fabulous week at this gorgeous property right on Lake Chautauqua. The house truly looks like the photos on the listing. The downstairs area exceeded expectations as the living room was beautiful while also being a very comfortable, relaxed area to hang out, the large dining room table was great for late dinners, and the view through the large windows in the living room was gorgeous. My sons and daughter-in-laws loved fishing right off the dock and we rented a pontoon boat that we could tie up right at our own dock. There was plenty of room for my 4 year old grandson to run around in the yard, and the fire pit made a great place for s'mores in the evenings. So convenient to be a 5 minute drive to Wegmans and Kmart if we needed anything. The owners sent detailed information in advance that made "move-in" seamless. We had a couple of questions during our stay and Cindy was available by text with a speedy response. The neighbors on either side of the house (owners) were so friendly and one kindly came over to let us know we had left our running lights going on the pontoon which saved our battery! Our only issue was not property-related -- we couldn't swim due to algae problem in the lake, which apparently is an issue at times at Chautauqua. But we easily found lots of other activities to keep us busy. Short drive to Midway Sate Park, a fabulous old fashioned amusement park perfect for young kids, and about 20 minutes from Chautauqua Institution where some of the adults went to a wonderful lecture and is definitely worth visiting to see this unique community of houses built in the 1800's and where the philosophy is education as entertainment.
My husband, his brother, and both our families stayed here for a return home trip. My husband and his brother grew up in the area and we came back to spend some time vacationing here. The house had plenty of space as well as a yard big enough for everyone to play outside. We spent a lot of time fishing off the dock at the house and was able to rent a boat and keep it there as well. We had a blast!
There were 8 BFF’s (all celebrating our 65th birthdays), and this place was perfect. Exactly as shown, roomy, comfortable beds, quality linens, extremely clean, great location, kitchen had all we needed…. So many good things to say and nothing negative. We just booked it again for next year.
Awesome view, comfortable beds, cute decor, large firepit, ample grass area for the kids to play, dock for boat rental, the list goes on and on. Owners were available by text at any time. Would recommend highly! We had nine of us ranging in age from 10 to 73 and it was great for all of us!
We are a group of high school friends all celebrating our 70th birthdays.
I cannot say enough about this beautiful property. The house was gorgeous and beautifully decorated. We spent most of the time in the awesome outdoor space. The house was immaculate.
Greg and Cindy are so easy to deal with and very responsive.
Thank you so very much for allowing us to share your beautiful home.
We would love to return next spring.
Thanks again Cindy and Greg

The house was exactly as the pictures showed!! Our entire family had plenty of space to move around In. The dining room table that was large enough to fit us all at was the best. Many memories were made this past week, and WE all would recommend it to everyone!! Thank you, Cindy and Greg for having a beautiful vacation house inside and out!!❤
Our multigenerational family thoroughly enjoy our vacation in this lovely home on the lake. Afternoons under the shade tree, evenings watching the sunset & then sitting around the fire pit were just delightful. We were happy to comfortably fit all around the dining table! The kitchen is well equipped & the beds are very comfortable. The dock is secure & great for tying up the boat or securing a raft for a fun afternoon of floating! Kudos to Chautauqua Lake Association for keeping Burtis Bay cleaned up with their weed harvesting boats!
Marvelous vacation!
